Thanks for the comments guys!
Volta a Catalunya Stage 4
Stage 4 of this years edition of the Volta a Catalunya, is quite hilly, with two 1st cat. climbs. Although this might sound hard, but the last 20kms are all downhill/flat.
After a slow start of the day, the usual daily break formed, the highest profile rider was Vacansoleil's Dutchie, Wout Poels. The 5-man break's other biggest name was wildcard team, Andalúcia's Gustavo Veloso. They quickly built up a great lead, which peaked at 7mins at the middle of the stage.
With 50kms to go at the foot of the first climb, Movistar upped the pace, and tried to reel in the BotD, which had a ca. 4:30 lead as they hit the steep percentages.
On the first climb nothing really interesting happened, the peloton closed with half of a minute to the break, but no attacks came. Unfortunately our riders were not feeling good, and struggled a bit to keep themselves in the first row.
The second 1st category climb, was basically the same, but the peloton gained a minute this time. At the top of the climb, some attacks came by the likes of Moreno, and Vandenbroeck. However these attacks weren't strong enough to get away. The Movistar train was way too strong to let these attacks stay away. Our spiders, were a bit behind, but hoped to recover on the descents.
Meanwhile the peloton was a bit nervous, the break kept it calm, and were preparing for the little group sprint. Who will be the deserving winner?
And Gustavo Veloso takes the stage after a fantastic effort in the breakaway! Great win by him! Poels takes the 2nd, and Saxo's Lund comes in 3rd. Martin Elmiger wins the mass-sprint for the 6th place, 1'12 down on the winner. The best spider was Clemson at the 12th place.

I'm glad that this story is moving so smoothly and without any problems, it's a great idea and it's great to see it working out so well! I can't wait for my rider to start his races and earn his points

E3 Prijs Vlaanderen Harelbeke
Favorites:
*** Boonen, Cancellara, Pye
** Flecha, Hushovd, Ballan
* Pozzato, Sagan, Boom
Here is our squad for the first cobbled classic of the year. Mike Pye is our main cobblestone specialist, and he'll lead the team. Canadian Van der Valde is our co-leader, but if Pye feels good, then he'll serve as a pure domestique.
This years course of the E3 starts with a nice flat run-in, until we reach the hills, and the main "part" of the race, the cobbled sections. The 2nd part will be really demanding, and the race will most likely be decide in a very select group sprint.
This years E3 started off pretty fast, as the first breaks too strong for the like of Team Sky, and they chased them down. However, after 30kms a break established themselves in front of the peloton, with the biggest names being Devolder and Puccio. After a while Katushas italian Luca Paolini joined them too.
The pace was a bit slow in the peloton until the first cobbled sections, but then OPQS turned up the pace a bit, and blew the peloton into pieces. Some pre-race favorites were caught behind the splits, but after the hill, on the descent they fought their way back into the peloton.
Meanwhile the peloton picked up the pace, thanks to Omega Pharma - Quickstep, in the break Paolini attacked a decided to do a big solo ride. His lead was really big (around 7mins), and didn't show signs of tireing.
At the 10km mark, Paolini was still in the lead and a ca. 20man chase group followed him with a 1min gap. Some really big names were missing, like Boonen or Sagan. Our 2 leaders were still there, so a double chance is there for us.
In the last kms Pye positioned himself on Breschel's and Hushovd's wheel. These 4 with Cancellara got a small gap on the others, and were just about to catch Paolini. Cancellara was probably the strongest of the riders, but he launched the earliest. Is he strong enough?
At the 1km mark Cancellara was still in the lead, and the others were also overtaking Paolini. What an unlucky race for the Italian! Pye is a bit behind, but he certainly didn't launched his sprint yet. Can he come a bit closer to Cancellara?
And with 500ms Mike gets a lot closer to the swissman, and his full speed is just incredible! Is there enough time for him to completely overtake, the swiss motor?
Yes, he has! Mike Pye wins his first PT classic! What an amazing sprint this was by the british machine! Amazing!!!!! Cancellara comes 2nd, and Italian Ballan takes 3rd after a great sprint.
1 | Mike Pye | SpiderTech - Cervélo | 5h09'53 | 2 | Fabian Cancellara | RadioShack - Nissan | s.t. | 3 | Alessandro Ballan | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | 4 | Juan Antonio Flecha | Sky Procycling | s.t. | 5 | Thor Hushovd | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | 6 | Matti Breschel | Rabobank Cycling Team | s.t. | 7 | Luca Paolini | Katusha Team | s.t. | 8 | Sebastian Langeveld | Orica - GreenEdge | s.t. | 9 | Lars Boom | Rabobank Cycling Team | s.t. | 10 | Sylvain Chavanel | Omega Pharma - Quick·Step Cycling Team | s.t. |
Pye - 3 No words for this performance!
Van der Valde - 1 Without him, this win would have been impossible.

What a show off power by Pye! I don't know his age but if he's quite young he has a great career ahead of him! |

Too bad he's so old although, it's a bit more realistic, as experience is very helpful in cobbled races. |

Great win for Pye. Btw, will Van Der Valde have a chance of leading at least 1 cobble race? |

If Nick feels himself really good during the race, then he won't have to help Mike at all, he can ride for himself. But most likely Mike won"t support him, unless he has a really bad day. I hope the explanation was clear.
