So, before the Tour started, Menchov and Wiggins were the only contenders who hadn't crashed or otherwise had major problems derailing their preparation (which was the main reason why Wiggins was the favorite, he was the only guy left standing)
Are they injured too now?
Wiggins just came to a standstill behind the crash and assume the same for Menchov?
Menchov went down I think, but not too hard. Wiggins stayed on his bike.

Froome rode the barriers then went down but post race interview looked and said he was fine. |

Why they changed it? Don't remember time being given back last year when there was a crash on stage 1.
You remember wrongly Wiggins was amongst those to have been given time back last year on Stage 1 having been held up by a late crash. If youre thinking of Contador's crash that day, then no time was given because it was outside the final 3km.
Well, now I remember that there were actually two crashes, from which one inside 3 km zone.
But did today's stage had a 3 km zone? Because it is categorised as a medium mountain stage. |

It obviously had ( 3km zone ) as riders involved in the crash were given same time as EBH

Apparently it did given all the time alterations but can't find the actual rulebook on the new look website. |

Looking at the crash replay you can see 2 Katusha riders caught up in it but at relatively low speed and staying upright - assume one of them was Menchov so should be uninjured.
Edit - Looking at standings was almost certainly Menchov with Vorganov.

Stop being ridiculous. The crash basically held up the entire peloton apart from 15 or so riders up front, they wouldn't penalise the riders being held up! |

Little injury update
Gilbert with a gash down his leg and bruising (nothing too bad).
Siutsou - fractured left tibia.
Many more yet to confirm |

I had another look at the replay. Menchov didn't crash, but it was close.
Here you can see him almost falling off his bike and then grabbing onto the barriers to stay upright. We definitely don't have to worry about him being injured.

Did anyone find a comment from the VCD rider who was first at the final turn - but apparently missed it?

Samuel Sanchez about today's winner: "In future, we will be able to say, we rode with him."
Well said by Samu

The lack of rule there is for mechanicals or crashes in small groups. Not for a crash in the Peloton, on a stage that wasn't that hard really compared to usual medium mountain stages. |

+1 Samu's humility makes him even bigger.
Sagan is going to be the winner of too many and different kind of classics in the future. Hope he won't improve at mountains because we probably would see Eddy Merckx clone! |
