The 4th stage is the first of the more challenging days, this one may well finish in a large sprint however, as the only hills on the route, come around 60km from the finish line.
The morning breakaway consisted of 6men, including Bernardo Colex, it was formed after 25km of riding, and the included names: Finetto, Burghardt, Van Leijen, Strangelj and Meersman.
The strongest man in the break was Burghardt, and he was clearly interested in the KOM, he attacked all 3, picking up the full 36points, and the jersey ahead of tomorrow.
Into the final 10km, the break still held 2'20 seconds, it was clear they would fight out the win. Sadly Colex couldn't hold onto the fast pace and dropped away with 25km to ride, Strangelj was the first man to attack in the break, and opened a small gap to the rest, forcing Burghardt and Finetto to respond.
Burghardt pulled him back in, then with 4km to go, placed his own move, he had been the one working hardest in the breakaway, but was also clearly strongest, as no one was really able to respond.
Strangelj and Meersman stayed in touching distance of the BMC Rouleur, but couldn't stop his stage win, The peloton finished 47seconds behind him, meaning he claims the Leaders Jersey ahead of tomorrows decisive stage.
Firstly, regarding this stage, I'm sorry, some of my screens didn't take, so i've only got 2 for you...
One of the hardest days today, 6 laps of the climb into Ustron, which will be likely to break up the field if the pace is set high.
The morning break was 9men at peak, Craig Lewis got in there for us, and set about picking up as many KOM points as possible on the stage, before eventually getting dropped as Sorensen of Saxobank upped the pace to stay away for the stage.
The break managed to hold off the peloton once more today, who didn't fancy setting too high a pace, making do with limiting the time gaps to the leaders who were way down on the GC.
Sorensen was strongest in the break, just pipping Ovechkin on the line with Lars Boom behind. Armstrong finished 14th on the day, and moves up to 5th place in the GC.
This stage wouldn't stop crashing upon loading, so in the end I simmed it, It was a mountainous day and the last decisive one for the pack, here are the results:
The final day, and the objective is simple try and claim 33" on the GC, and win more KOM points than Sorenson of Saxobank... So... Simple!
Joint in the KOM lead, we had to try and get Lewis up the road today and win the competition outright, He forced the first attack, along with Pérez of Euskaltel.
This attack was joined by 9other men, and created the break of the day. Sorenson hadn't made it into the Pack, so all we had to do was get a point, and the KOM was certain!
Lewis went about this on the first of the 2 climbs, he attacked and easily took the climb without competition, making him the winner of the KOM Competition in the 2011 Tour De Pologne!
With 20km to go, the Peloton had almost got the break back, meaning the strongest men remaining made there standard dig to stay away, Phinney was thundering on the front however, and quickly swept up the remains.
With 12km to go, Lance jumped away from the pack, he needed to claim 33" seconds to win the overall which meant 14" advantage and the stage win would do!
Sadly however, Katusha wanted to try and set up Pozzato for a shot at the Points Jersey, and as he opened his sprint around the penultimate corner, he passed Lance, who was on the limit and couldn't react.
Well the bigger name sprinters have failed in yet another race this season! Pozzato easily took the win, in front of Vinokourov, Breschel, Hesjedal and Boonen! Lance Clings on to 7th spot, but has to make do with 3rd in the GC.

Word From the DS
All in all, a great tour all things considered, It's Great to see Craig win the KOM competition, he's spent the year working as one of our stronger Doméstiques, so it's good that given a slightly freer role, he's been able to earn himself a reward.
Lance worked hard throughout the race, and takes a podium and a stage win. We are at the business end of the season now, and we need to sit down with Lance and have a discussion as to his future.
He's done the job he came back to do, and has had a great season. He has an option for another year on the contract and we'd love him to sign for another year, equally, we must accept he is getting on, so It is going to be down to him as to whether or not he will continue.

The German Classic. Set in Hamburg, the profile suggests it should be one for a sprinter. We have high hopes for a good result here, despite Tyler not being in perfect shape.
The reason for this is Farrar's record here! He is the Double defending champion, so Tyler will be looking to perform well here

Chris has been using these one day classics to get some legs back before La Vuelta, and this is the story once again, He can give it a go if the Punchers stay away, but his legs aren't quite there just yet, and he's not the main man.
Broadly, The sprinters are here, Some teams have brought a puncher as well, such as Gilbert, Voigt, Devolder and Ballan. But most teams seem fairly confident of a sprint finish.
The fight to form a breakaway took place over the first 60km, several attempt to get away were stopped, either due to the size, or contents. Kreuziger and Cancellara both tried over the first 15km to get into a successful break, both these attacks were brought back for obvious reasons.
Eventually, 12 men including our Caleb Fairly did get into a break, and the pace slowed down, with 90km to go, they held an advantage of 10'06.
Omega-Pharma Lotto and Sky clearly felt this was looking to dangerous, and sent there teams forward to up the pace, In the case of sky, the decision seemed odd, as they had one of the strongest men in the break (T.Lofkvist) and there sprinter was weaker than several of those around him.
The decision became even odder, when the started to pull the break along at a high pace, starting to thin out the group. Either Sky had some master plan we'd all overlooked, or Lofkvist wasn't happy with his DS, and had decided to go Solo vs his team!
With 20km, the break had 3'26 thanks To the Sky mans work, and Cobo of Geox-TMC, decided it was time to see who had the legs to follow him from the break, no one did, and it was now a question of 1 vs The Peloton.
10km, and a lead of 1'47 This is doable, but the Punchers have sensed an opportunity behind and started to attack, the pace is up behind him, how much does he have left?
2.4km, 42" Farrar has decided that he can't wait any longer, and is going early, the sprinters are following him behind, but can they even close to Cobo?
300m... He must have smelt the victory! Farrar, Greipel and Cavendish come thundering past JJ Cobo, who will be devastated by how close to a Protour Victory he came.
On the Line... Greipel wins! Farrar just couldn't quite hold off the competition to the line, and loses out on a 3rd straight victory in the Vattenfall Cyclassics due to the work he had to do to get across to JJ.

Word from the DS
Woah! That was a great Finale! Shame we miss out on the victory, but commiserations today have to go to Cobo, he was 300m away from a great Breakaway victory here in Hamburg, and yet doesn't even finish in the top10!
The Eneco Tour, is the final Stage Race before the Vuelta, however despite this, we send very much a nominal side, aiming to gain experience rather than contest overall particularly, and the focus is much more on the youth, such as Phinney, and Vogel.
The Squad
The Leader: Taylor Phinney Sprinter: Fred Rodriguez Free Elements: Dominique Rollin, Shy Vogel Team Mates: Chad Beyer, Christian Meier, Bjorn Selander
Taylor isn't great over the cobbles that play a part in the Eneco, but with 2TT's He may be able to earn some time back, and as we said, his aim is the -25 jersey, and experience as leader.
Fred Is the old head in the side, and will be the man for the sprints, He's not as quick as some men here, but a few high placings shouldn't be too much to ask.
Shy Vogel might raise some eyebrows, he's not had a great start since joining, but he's only just made the step from youth cycling, and we believe he has the potential to become a great, hence we're giving him an opportunity, in more favourable terrain.
Some great riders, which isn't surprising! Hushovd and Sagan stand out as favourites, along with Devolder, and Hoste, who will look to be explosive in those days with cobbles.
The Route
With a great mixture of the challenges which create a thrill early season, expect to see fights every day! There are plenty of days which look like they could make for a successful break, so expect to see our young team active every day, as we look to provide some shocks!
A 5.7km prologue starts off the race, and this is one of the days where we hope to be more effective, Phinney hasn't got great legs today (-2) but, none the less, Top5 seems like a possible request.
The early pace setter, was Saxobanks Nicki Sorensen, not a great TTer, but he rode a good early time of 7'52.
The 15th man to set off was American TT(specialist maybe?) Tejay Van Garderen, Tejay showed us exactly why we signed him for next season, with a blistering time, that would eventually place him 2nd, the fist man under 7'30!
Following VG off the start ramp were a collection of great riders, such as Van Emden, Voigt and Gerdemann, but none of them could break his time, all missing out by a few critical seconds.
Tony Martin, VG's Team mate, was pipped as favourite for today, but in the end, it was clear his form is not what it was last year, and he slipped to an eventual 8th place, 6" behind Tejay.
Lars Boom has ridden into some strong form recently, including Podiums in Poland, and it's no surprise that he came flying off the start line in his home race, he pipped Tejay by 1" for the stage victory, and to become the first race leader.
Our hope for the day, was Taylor Phinney, he's strong against the clock, especially given his age, and shows that, with 4th place here in the Prologue!

DS Comments
Well, For this race, we're going to set a challenge each day, today it was top5 on the stage, and we succeeded in that thanks to Taylor. He rode hard, and placed himself in a good position today, to be up there overall.
Edited by baggieboys32 on 07-06-2012 00:09
The early few days here seem built for the sprinters, Fred will be our man for the job today, looking for a top10 spot.
Days Goals: Get into the Break, Top 10 Finish
We got Chad Beyer into the morning break, where he won an intermediate sprint, and showed strong form for a guy with so many race days already completed.
However, the day seemed doomed before the beginning for a sprint, and sure enough it all came back together with 15km to go. Fred Rodriguez didn't have the legs today to contest a sprint, and faded to a disappointing 20th place.
Lars Boom shows his form once more, winning the sprint. It was however, an unconventional finish, as there had been strong winds, which tired many of the pure sprinters.

Stage 3
The 3rd stage is pan flat, other than it's trip through a tunnel at around halfway. We hope to get a much better result in the sprint today, as the weather seems much more favourable.
Once more we were present in a doomed break, This time Rollin went forwards, he tried to stay away, but once again, the break was easily caught by the chasing Rabobank team.
With Freds legs much better today, Taylor Phinney lined him up for the sprint with 3km to go, followed by the sprinters such as Rojas, Eisel and Veelers.
He's not strong enough to take on the top name sprinters present here at the Eneco, but he did hang on for a top 5, with the stage going to JJ Rojas. Phinney also showed his ability to sprint, holding on for 8th place, after leading out Freddie.
