He should be a great luxury domestique for Gesink & Schleck in the GT's and can go for his own GC in races like Paris/Nice or Romandie!

Wow, 10.000.... Hsdn't seen it, thanks for paying attention.

Probablt not much stages coming up the next days. Reason: the indian summer in the Netherlands. WIth almost 25 degrees and a clear blue sky, I took the afternoon free from work, and went for a nice ride with my roadbike instead. Better than playing PCM in my opinion!

3rd stage from Olonne-sur-Mer to Redon. the last stage in the Vendée... Well, only the start, because we finish in Bretagne.
img9.imageshack.us/img9/9466/carte1w.jpg
img7.imageshack.us/img7/6658/profilsv.jpg

The stage was only 2km from the finish, with Garmin and Monster leading the peloton with their train, and then it happened: a crash (the game, not the riders).
Another try, this time halfway the stage.
3rd and last time: with 20km to go...

So, I simulated the stage (detailed simulation), and I will NEVER do that again. Why? Well, we had a completely flat stage, and 190 riders finish inside the peloton. So 8 riders lost time: Mark Cavendish, André Greipel, Daniele Bennati, Romain Feillu, Tyle Farrar, Thibaut Pinot, Alessandro Petacchi and Edvald Boasson Hagen.
Wait a minute, aren't those............?????????????? Forget Pinot, and you see the best sprinters in the Tour.
So what are the results?
1. Flecha, 2. Roy, 3. Cancellara, 4. Lequatre and hey, on 5th place a sprinter, Heinrich Haussler.... (and all Monster Energy-riders and GC-contenders in the peloton).

So no screenshots, I even don't mind in posting the results or the GC (Cancellara in yellow, Flecha in green). What a waste of time AngryAngryAngry

4th stage, and no crash!!! From Lorient to Mur-de-Bretagne, 172km with 1 4th category climb and the finish after a 3km climb.
Km 79.0 - Côte de Laz - 1.6 km climb to 5.9 % - Category 4
Km 172.5 - Mûr-de-Bretagne - 2.0 km climb to 6.9 % - Category 3

img13.imageshack.us/img13/4438/carteyeu.jpg
img89.imageshack.us/img89/6360/profilze.jpg

A group of 12 riders form the BOTD. Afraid of a crashing game, I didn't bother to write down all their names. At the Cote de Laz, they had a gap of 5'05 to the peloton.
1. Kevin van Impe (Quick Step), 2. Grégory Rast (Radio Shack), 3. William Bonnet (FDJ).
img35.imageshack.us/img35/8248/1ism.jpg

13km later, they sprint for the points of the Intermediate sprint. In this small time, the lead is cut back to 1'45 Shock
1. Grégory Rast (Radio Shack), 2. Alessandro Ballan (BMC), 3. Sebastian Langeveld (Rabobank).
img853.imageshack.us/img853/5541/2kotm.jpg

With 30km to go, they are caught. All stays quiet, untill 1km to go. A strange attack by Jérémy Roy (FDJ, and that's not strange), Tyler Farrar and Alessandro Petacchi. Why do these sprinters attack, when they now it's fruitless???
img690.imageshack.us/img690/2310/317km.jpg

5km to go and Team Sky is in the lead. We have set up a train with Rosseler leading De Gendt and Schleck.
img847.imageshack.us/img847/3707/45km.jpg

Cancellara is the first with the jump, but it's too early. Then come the Spanish riders: Joaquim Rodriguez and Igor Antón are in the lead with 1km to go. This is a finish that suits Purito!
img831.imageshack.us/img831/2002/51km.jpg

And Purito stays in the lead! He wins the 4th stage of the Tour de France Igor Antón gets 2nd and they have a gap of '15 seconds to the rest. Andy Schleck finishes in 12th place. Some of the GC-contenders loose time (well, 18 seconds): Horner, Wiggins, Leipheimer, Brajkovic, Mosquera, Basso, Nibali and Cadel Evans.

Word from the DS: No chance in this stage. But again, no time lost!

5th stage, from Carhaix to Cap Fréhel. 164.5km long through Brétagne. The last part is quite difficult, close to the shore and some uphill parts. Probabaly a mass sprint anyhow.
img94.imageshack.us/img94/3846/profilnh.jpg

The first breakaway today happens to be the right one. 6 riders form the BOTD and create a big gap. They sprint for the KOTM-point at the Côte de Gurunhuel (2.3 km climb to 5.1 % - Category 4). Tom Leezer (Rabobank) is the one who gets the point. His breakaway companions are Luca Paolini (Katusha), Sébastien Hinault (AG2R), Maarten Neyens (Omega Pharma), Simone Ponzi (Liquigas) and Robert Hunter (Radio Shack). At the summit of the Côte de Gurunhuel, the 6 have got their maximum lead of the day, 9 minutes. But there are still 120km to go in this stage.
img192.imageshack.us/img192/162/1kotm.jpg

The 6 have pedaled away 25 more kilometres, when they can sprint for the Green jersey-points in the town of Goudelin. Robert Hunter wins this one, Leezer in 2nd and Paolini in 3rd. After a wait of 8'20, the spectators see Matthew Goss win the sprint for place 7, just in front of EBH and Farrar.
img534.imageshack.us/img534/143/2isl.jpg

Lampre and Garmin settle themselves up front of the peloton and start the chase. In the town of Pléneuf val-André, with 25km to go. The lead is only 2 minutes. Robert Hunter gets nervous in the leading group and attacks.
img571.imageshack.us/img571/7656/324km.jpg

He can't get away, and the 6 continue their cooperation. Meanwhile, 3 riders have jumped out of the peloton on one of those many hills near the Atlantic shore. Sylvain Chavanel (Quick Step), Juan Antonio Flecha (Sky) and Jérémy Roy (FDJ) close the gap to the leading group quickly. WIth 15km to go, the 9 have a gap of 1'00 to the peloton.
img13.imageshack.us/img13/1105/415km.jpg

The 9 up front can't stay away. Flecha decides to try it on his own with 8km to go. Only Roy and Chavanel are capable of following him, the 6 early breakaways can't and are swallowed by the peloton.
img694.imageshack.us/img694/9046/58km.jpg

Chavanel tries it with an ultimate attack 5km from the finish. He is the only one that can stay up front, but his gap is only 15 seconds. Won't be enough!
img24.imageshack.us/img24/5328/65km.jpg

But what a mess in the peloton! All the trains fall apart, only Lampre can stay up front. Boonen and Cavendish follow Petacchi. Marcel Kittel decided to take the wheel of Tyler Farrar, but also the Garmin-train isn't on his the rails, so Kittel finds himself in 25th position
img713.imageshack.us/img713/4493/73km.jpg

In the final kilometres, the road ascends a bit. Grega Bole is doing a terrific job for Petacchi, who can wait for his jump, while his rivals have to start the sprint much earlier because they were way back...
img171.imageshack.us/img171/5063/81km.jpg

600metres to go and it's Tom Boonen in the lead! Edvald Boasson Hagen and Samuel Dumoulin are on the sides of the road, but there comes Petacchi in the middle with his jump. Kittel is back in 14th place, and it doesn't look like he can make up some places to finish in the top 10...
img43.imageshack.us/img43/6401/9600m.jpg

But it's the Italian champ Petacchi who takes the win in Cap Fréhel, is 7th of the season. He saved his victories for the big races: 1x Tirreno, 2x Giro, 2x Tour de Suisse, 1x Italian championship and now the Tour!! Boasson Hagen takes 2nd and is the new leadr in the Points-ranking. Boonen takes 3rd, whereas Kittel finishes in 11th.

U25 & Teams: no changes.

Word from the DS: again a stage as predicted. Early breakaway, and finally a mass sprint. We decided not to set up a train today, and let Kittel take the wheel of one of the favourites. But he never thought that it would be impossible for most of the teams to set up a good train. We chose Farrar, but Petacchi was the right choice today. Tomorrows stage will be harder for the real sprinters, maybe we can see a surprise then!

Stage 7, from Dinan to Lisieux. WIth 221.5km the longest stage in this Tour de France. The Tour enters Normandy with this stage and the terrain is up and down all the route. Only 3 of the climbs are categorized:
Km 99.5 - Côte de Saint-Michel de Montjoie - 2.4 km climb to 5.9 % - Category 3
Km 156.5 - Côte du Bourg d'Ouilly - 2.7 km climb to 5.6 % - Category 3
Km 197.0 - Côte du Billot - 1.3 km climb to 6.5 % - Category 4
The weather is absolutely dreadful, with lots of heavy showers. So maybe this is a day for a breakaway?

img828.imageshack.us/img828/4660/profilmu.jpg

Martijn Maaskant is in today's breakaway. It took some time to form this BOTD, but eventually, a group of 11 get away: Maaskant, Martin Elmiger (AG2R), Grégory Rast (Radio Shack), Yauheni Hutarovich (FDJ), Filippo Pozzato (Katusha), Aleksejs Saramotins (Cofidis), Alexander Kristoff (BMC), Sébastien Chavanel (Europcar), Danilo Hondo (Lampre), Wouter Mol (Vacansoleil) and Sebastian Langeveld (Rabobank). Elmiger takes the 2 points on the summit of the Côte de Saint-Michel de Montjoie, with Saramotins in 2nd. The peloton takes it easy and is 7'30 back.
img577.imageshack.us/img577/6731/1kotm1.jpg

The Intermediate sprint in Vassy is won by Mol, Langeveld in 2nd and Saramotins in 3rd. With 95km to go, the peloton is 7'25 back.
img24.imageshack.us/img24/9653/2isn.jpg

The 2nd climb of the day is the Côte du Bourg d'Ouilly. Again, Elmiger takes the 2 points, edging out Langeveld. The peloton has closed them down with 1'30 to 5'47.
img10.imageshack.us/img10/2397/3kotm2.jpg

Last climb of the day. And surprise, surprise..... Elmiger takes the only point at the Côte du Billot. 30km to go, and the peloton is only 2'18 back.
img851.imageshack.us/img851/4249/4kotm3.jpg

With 15km to go, the chasing peloton can already see the leading group. '53 back, so this will be a mass sprint again.
img705.imageshack.us/img705/4557/515km.jpg

The group is together again, and under the 5km bow, Ryder Hesjedal leads the peloton while working for Farrar.
img851.imageshack.us/img851/5672/75km.jpg

Sylvain Chavanel tries again to surprise the peloton with a final junp in the last few kilometres. With 3km to go, he leads with '15.
img841.imageshack.us/img841/2666/83kmg.jpg

But Garmin doesn't let him go. It's Farrar's lead out Heinrich Haussler who is in the lead under the flamme rouge.
img847.imageshack.us/img847/3887/91km.jpg

Haussler still leads with 500metres to go. Farrar starts his jump, but also Boonen comes from behind. In green, Edvald Boasson Hagen looks to be in a beaten position. Marcel Kittel is in 12th place. Won't happen again today for Monster...
img695.imageshack.us/img695/7589/10500m.jpg

Huh, EBH wins? How's that possible? He was way back and boxed in with 500m to go. And now he wins with some distance.... And this guy is only 24 years old, unbelievable... Daniele bennati rides a great sprint and finishes in 2nd, Boonen in 3rd. Kittel finishes in 12th place, and that's a bit disappointing.

U25 & Teams:
No changes.

Word from the DS: What a terrible weather. Maaskant did great being in the attack all day. Possibly because of the cold rain, he could not try it in the end of the stage. EBH proved he is a great sprinter. Tomorrow is another chance for Kittel, he really wants to get a top 5...

7th stage, from Le Mans to Chateauroux. Almost flat, very long (218km) and some hard winds in the end.
img97.imageshack.us/img97/6384/profilte.jpg

After some fruitless attempts by other riders, we see to very known riders up front: Juan Antonio Flecha (Sky) and Jérémy Roy (FDJ) try it again. They get a maximum gap of 5'30. In the town of Buzancais, 26km from the finish, they have a gap of about 2 minutes left.
img191.imageshack.us/img191/6586/1isb.jpg

The peloton has almost caught them in the last 20km. Only '42 seconds left. But this wind has started to blow harder and harder.
img199.imageshack.us/img199/8049/220km.jpg

And this is what happens: echelons! Although the wind is only 40km/h, the peloton breaks in many pieces! From our team, only Andy Schleck and Marcel Kittel can stay in the first group. But with 10km to go, also Kittel looses contact.
img7.imageshack.us/img7/9438/3waaiers.jpg

Under the banner of the last 5km, Andy Schleck has positioned himself in the first part of the leading group, that is only 22 riders big. From the GC-contenders, only Evans, Sanchez, Rodriguez, Vinokourov and Frank Schleck are present in it!
img705.imageshack.us/img705/3707/45km.jpg

When the sprinters start their drag race to the stage win, disaster has happened for Andy. He has lost contact with this group... How can this has happened? Well, Garmin's Ryder Hesjedal slowed down, after being on the head of the group for some time and while doing that, he blocked Andy, so our leader eventually fell back in the chasing peloton, losing 1'15 (in less than 4km!).
Up front: Farrar leads Boasson Hagen, Petacchi, Boonen and Goss.
img684.imageshack.us/img684/2172/51500m.jpg

With 600metres to go, it looks like the first victory in the Tour for the American!
img841.imageshack.us/img841/2402/6600m.jpg

And he does! After winning a stage in the Tour de Suisse, 3 in the Giro D'Italia, Farrar wins his first Tour stage ever! Tom Boonen gets 2nd, EBH 3rd. Evans, Sanchez, Rodriguez, Frank Schleck and Vinokourov are in this group. Andy, COntador, Basso, Nibali, Wiggins and Leipheimer loose 1'15. Roche and the Radio Shack-trio Klöden, Brajkovic and Horner even 6'22.

Word from the DS: What a strange stage... All our riders were attentful in the first part of the peloton, but when the wind started to blow (and it was only 40km/h max!), they fell back one by one. Even experienced echelon-riders as Niki Terpstra fell back.. We were lucky that Andy Schleck was up front, but after he got boxed in by Hesjedal, he rode even slower then a women that just gave birth to a child and had to bring another kid to school with the bike...... So instead of place 5 in the GC, it's place 29..... Next stage: the hills!

Yes, this means I have to attack a lot in the mountains. I need more than a minute advantage to Evans (and Contador) before the final TT to have a chance for the GC-win....

Stage 8 and we finally enter the mountains. The 189km long stage from Aigurande to Super-Besse Sancy in the Massif Central is not that difficult, although in the last 30km two climbs with a summit of over 1250m have to be climb. The last few kilometres are for the puncheurs.
img651.imageshack.us/img651/4580/profilcy.jpg

Km 65.5 - Côte d'Évaux-les-Bains - 1.7 km climb to 6.2 % - Category 4
Km 119.5 - Côte du Rocher des Trois Tourtes - 1.3 km climb to 4.6 % - Category 4
Km 164.0 - Col de la Croix Saint-Robert - 6.2 km climb to 6.2 % - Category 2
Km 189.0 - Super-Besse Sancy - 1.5 km climb to 7.6 % - Category 3

As expected a big group ride away quickly, and the peloton lets them: Sergei Ivanov (Katusha), Frederik Willems (Omega Pharma), Brent Bookwalter & Alessandro Ballan (BMC), Manuel Cardoso (Radio Shack), Sébastien Minard (AG2R), Maciej Paterski & Eros Capecchi (Liquigas), Lars Boom (Rabobank), Alessandro Petacchi (Lampre) and Carlos Oyarzun (Movistar).
Ivanov takes the single point at the summit of the Côte d'Évaux-les-Bains after 65.6km. He beats Willems and Bookwalter in the sprint. The gap to the peloton is 6'20.
img23.imageshack.us/img23/6731/1kotm1.jpg

The leading group doesn't sprint for the points in Auzances. Willems is first, Capecchi 2nd and Boom 3rd. 106km to go and the lead is 7'37.
img6.imageshack.us/img6/9997/2is.jpg

The Côte du Rocher des Trois Tourtes is the 2nd KOTM-sprint of the day, and again there is only one point waiting at the summit for the riders. Oyarzun takes it, and the peloton is 6'16 back.
img823.imageshack.us/img823/2397/3kotm2.jpg

2 riders have made the jump out of the peloton, and close the gap before the summit of the 3rd climb of the day, Col de la Croix Saint-Robert - 6.2 km climb to 6.2 %: Simon Gerrans (Sky) and Jerome Pineau (Quick Step). At an altitude of 1451metres, Eros Capecchi takes the points, with Ivanov in 2nd and Cardoso in 3rd. The peloton is still 2'28 back with 25km to go.
img836.imageshack.us/img836/4249/4kotm3.jpg

3 riders have created a little gap in the descend: Sergueï Ivanov, Manuel Cardoso and Maciej Paterski have a gap of '22 to the rest of the group. The peloton follows at 1'34.
img196.imageshack.us/img196/3825/510km.jpg

The chasing group has caught the leaders and has been enlarged with one more rider: AG2R's Nicholas Roche, who lost over 6 minutes yesterday. Under the 5km-bow, Simon Gerrans attacks. Only Pineau and Roche can follow him. The peloton is 1'07 back.
img828.imageshack.us/img828/5143/65kmf.jpg

The last climb to Super-Besse Sancy has started.
img692.imageshack.us/img692/7236/laatstekm.jpg

Andy Schleck feels strong and decides to attack with 4km to go. He's still 1'08 back to the leaders, but wants to regain some time for the GC!
img689.imageshack.us/img689/6087/74kml.jpg

One kilometre later, he is joined by Alberto Contador. Also older brother Fränk Schleck, Joaquim Rodriguez and Samuel Sanchez seem to close the small gap. The 3 leaders are still up front. '44.
img13.imageshack.us/img13/5439/83km.jpg

The pace in the next 2 kilometres is incrediby high and under the flamme rouge, the 3 leaders are caught. Alberto Contador starts the sprint, the Schleck-brothers, Sanchez and Rodriguez can follow. Michele Scarponi and Cadel Evans come back from behind, but can't take part in the battle for the stage win.
img824.imageshack.us/img824/2715/91kmh.jpg

Well, no one can... El Pistolero is too strong today. Fränk beats Andy for place 2. Nibali, Antón, Hesjedal and Cancellara loose '31, Basso, Vinokourov and Van den Broeck '57.

Word from the DS: Andy was very impressive today. He was the only one that could attack in the final climb, but unfortunately couldn't create a gap. When you clean the GC-rankings for the true GC-contendors, he's in 5th place. He has to make sure he won't loose time tomorrow in the 2nd Massif Central-stage, and then attack in the Pyrenées.

Nice try there, too bad you could not take any time on the other favourites today!
