Could someone point out some "reliable" links to getting into cycling.
I'm 30 but pretty fit from other aerobic sports. I just want some good material on how to select the correct bike, the do's and dont's of cycling, what to pack on day trips. |

I don't know about any written instructions, but you should try out the Global Cycling Network on youtube. |

Car pulled out on me on a roundabout.
Fortunately I'm not hurt, just a few grazes. But very frustrated/annoyed.
Was meant to be doing a 140km closed road sportive next week, with today as the main prep ride for that. Guess that's out now though, with no ride today and no bike.

Glad you are alright. Hope they are and indeed they should be paying for a new wheel! |

Rode a junior tour this weekend, came with my main goal as a top 5 with some luck, but crashed on the first stage. They took me to hospital because I broke my helmet and they thought I could have a head tumour, 3 hours in a neck brace, not fun.
Fortunately I ended up fine, just some very bad cuts/grazes on my left shoulder, knee and thigh. Rode stages 3 and 4, top ten on stage 4 and did a Veikkenen (sat on the back, but just stayed with the group while people dropped off past me ) on stage 3. Overall not the best weekend, but I came out relatively unharmed.

Good to hear you're ok! Even better finishing the race.
Interesting though that cervical collars are still used, as they can actually worsen your condition.

Rode my first HC climb this morning from Kingston to Newcastle. Epic climb with epic views, but not very fun tbh. https://www.strava.com/segments/9726804?filter=overall&gender=M this is the segment, I ended up 7th with a few more good segment placings on the way, so all in all an ok ride.
That descent is crazy and scary though. If you ever visit Jamaica and climb this I recommend you get a drive back down.

Ah a Strava HC climb, I wouldn't class that as a real HC but from the profile it certainly looks like a challenging climb. Nice work and looks like you really gave it a shake

So I knocked off my 6th Everest on Tuesday, it was ALOT harder than it should of been but I got it done! Started off in challenging conditions with 60-80 k winds and very heavy showers, was hit by a branch falling from a tree around 2.30am but was lucky and it hit me at an angle so bounced off me and I didn't come off. The conditions meant my gamins were both all over the place so had to make sure I was counting the laps correctly (136 in total) The daytime went well with the climb drying out and the winds dying down, everything was going fine outside of my feet staying wet and my gamins giving me dodgy readings. I was on track to finish around 6.30pm but unfortunately after 5pm everything went wrong. First up my all lights malfunctioned over a 5 lap period so had to keep stopping which messed up my rhythm, the the rain came back again and managed 3 punctures over a couple of hours. Finally finished up just after midnight having lost 6 hours from the wet and winds in the morning and then everything that happened after 5. Both my garmin files were corrupted so had to piece together what I had. In the end it shook down to being 310 k's over 136 laps with a total vertical of 8900 metres. Happy enough with my effort but damn it was harder than it should of been

Sounds horrendous but then conditions can vary at 9000m elevation!
Congrats on another one, hopefully conquering all that makes it all the sweeter with the benefit of hindsight. Take it you got enough data out of the Garmin's to get it officially recorded? Either way, well done you. |

Great stuff! 17km at 5% is a serious climb alright, I'm jealous, well done. I'm back to 3km max climbs after "enjoying" some Pyrenean beasts last week |

Yeah it will all be accepted as an official Everest as they guys who approve it know that I wouldn't say I did it unless I actually did it. I used what data I could salvage from my 500 which was 6800 vert and then just cropped part of my corrupted 510 data to make up the rest, so no complete file but it still feels good all the same I will need to see how the body is feeling but I'm considering doing another one this month but it is winter over here now so its a 50/50 chance that I do. The one thing that I have noticed is how I recover these days from this type of riding, I rode into work the day after and outside of a very little bit of tenderness on my sit bones I felt great. I guess the more "epic" rides people do the quicker they recover, i'm no Adam Hanson but I think I go alright

Nice Strydz and yes it's amazing how the body can adjust alright, you might yet become Adam Hansen! Went for my first post Pyrenean ride and there must be something in it as I blew some PR's out of the water
Not that it hurt any less, as Lemond said, you just go faster but I wasn't expecting such an improvement, a very nice surprise. |

I'm in pain right now. Did a bike ride to my parents house today, 120km and almost entirely flat. But the problem was the wind: beaufort 3-4 headwind the entire route..... And with doing 90km as the longest distance this year, it did hurt. Average was 24.3 km/h, really couldnt go any faster (my legs were getting empty, and heartrate kept between 140 and 150).
Well, it has only made me stronger (I hope)

Thanks, it was pretty tough, and I was surprised by how long I held that pace. The views were definitely worth it.
