Stage 3

imageshack.us/a/img15/4618/12stage3.jpg

The 3rd stage from Rochdale to Blackpool is possibly the most difficult one, as the ascend of Constitution Hill (summit 3km before the finish) will provide time gaps.
A large BOTD of 14 riders creates a margin of about 10 minutes, and will battle it out for the win. AG2R's Ben Gastauer tries it before the foot of Constitution Hill, but gets caught on the steep slopes. In the end, An Post's Kristjan Koren is the strongest, outsprinting Jonathan McCarty (Team Type 1).
Our young Luxembourg puncheur Gregory Bernard has the task of leading out GC-leader Martijn Maaskant, but is that strong, that he drops him in the last ascending 700 metres. But Maaskant as well gets a time gap to the peloton of 30 seconds! So Maaskant remains in the GC-lead, with Bernard in 2nd at '7 and Gasparotto in 3rd at '30.

Stage 4

imageshack.us/a/img833/7578/14stage4.jpg

The 4th stage with start and finish in Stoke-on-Trent looks pretty easy, but the last 10 kilometres are very difficult, as it features many short and steep climbs along the river Trent.
Sebastian Langeveld is the last member of the BOTD that gets caught, when Syvain Chavanel is the first to attack out of the peloton. Both Martijn Maaskant and Gregory Bernard don't counter the attack, but continue to ride in their own pace. Then Chavanel stalls on the last hill, and gets overpowered by Spartacus. Fabian Cancellara takes the stage win, beating Pisanellastoria's Leonardo Pinizzotto and Chavanel. Bernard and Maaskant finish in 11th and 13th at 23 seconds. They keep in 1st and 2nd in the GC, but Cancellara is tied with Bernard now at '7.

What way better to defend our GC-lead (and 2nd), then to let a breakaway win?? 4 guys will finish 4'28 before the peloton, and it is the worst sprinter of the 4 that has the best sprint (:rollSmile. Mathieu Perget takes the win for AG2R, beating Claudio Cucinotta (Acqua et Sapone), Jake Keough (UHC) and Sérgio Sousa (LA). Geraint Thomas wins the sprint of the peloton for the 5th place, with Matti Breschel in 7th. No GC-changes.

I haven`t expected such a great GC after reading the results from the last stages. Wink
Not the best stage results obviously but brilliant GC. Hope you can keep the lead.

sutty68
Great to see the team still holding on to the 1-2 Wink

But with Cancellara being so close its going to be a nervy ending to the race Frown

Miguel98
Let's hope that Spartacus doesn't ruin the fun.

@ roturn: Sometimes you must forget about breakaway wins, but start looking at the best results out of the peloton Wink

@ sutty68: Thanks, and yes, I'll keep an eye at Cancellara.

@ Miguel98: well, I won't mind breakaway wins in the last 3 stages. Although these 3 are classified as flat, so will end in mass sprints probably.

Stage 6

imageshack.us/a/img825/8899/20stage6.jpg

The first of the 3 flat stages develops the way we want it to. A breakaway is succesful, and Acqua et Sapone's Alessandro Proni takes the win, beating Giuseppe Di Salvo (Pisanellastoria) and Stefan van Dijk (Accent.Jobs) in the sprint. The peloton finishes at 7'34, Alex Rasmussen wins the sprint and Matti Breschel takes the 11th place. No GC-changes.

And again, the BOTD is succesful. Today, the win goes to United Healtcare, as Jake Keough is the best sprinter of the BOTD. Jakob Fuglsang takes the 2nd place and Angelo Furlan the 3rd. Enrico Gasparotto wins the peloton sprint, with Breschel in 16th. Again, no GC-changes.

Stage 8

imageshack.us/a/img831/2369/26stage8.jpg

The last stage with the finish in London, and all we have to do is to make sure Cancellara doesn't attack or collects bonus seconds. So what a surprise that our tactic is to et a breakaway win again. And as none of the other teams are willing to do the chase, we succesfully work out our plan.
Canadian Martin Gilbert takes the win for the Spidertech team, beating Giuseppe Di Salvo (poor guy, 2 times 2nd place in 3 stages....) and Ben Gastauer (AG2R). The peloton finishes at 3'22, and consequently, Martijn Maaskant wins the Tour of Britain 2013, with Gregory Bernard in 2nd and Fabian Cancellara in 3rd.

Word from the DS
Now this was an unexpected succesful Tour of Britain. Just like last year, we won the GC without taking the stage win. The 2 strange sprints in the first 2 stages brought Maaskant the win, as well as the succesful double attack with young Gregory Bernard in stage 3. Hopefully for Bernard, this is the first step to a great career!

Great 1-2. Nice to see you just let the breakaway win stage for stage to avoid bonus seconds. Wink
And also nice to see that Breschel was still able to get the Point jersey.

Who is Gregory Bernard actually? Is he a scouted talent?

@ roturn: Bernard is a scouted talent. But when I had offered him a contract as a stagiaire, he also showed up in the U23 results.

@ baseballlover312: Thanks man! Although struggling with the motivation sometimes, it keeps returning after a few days. Now I just want t finish the 2013-season.

World Championships

The 2013 World Championships are organized in Germany in the town of Nürburg, at the world famous Nürburgring circuit.

Time trial
We could see in the Tour of Britain that Fabian Cancellara was getting in a great form. He wins the TT-world title, the 5th in his career! Danish Alex Rasmussen, also showing a good form in the ToB, took the 2nd place, with Edvald Boasson Hagen bringing home the bronze for Norway.
imageshack.us/a/img29/5581/pcm0009q.jpg

Road Race
The Italian team was extremely strong in Nürburg, finishing with 4 riders within the Top 7 (and Cunego had to abandon with a broken wrist). This way, they managed to surprise the favourite for the title, Philippe Gilbert. Enrico Gasparotto brings the title finally back to Italy, with Gilbert taking the silver and Rigoberto Urán the bronze.

(as every time, I simulated the races. My Dutch squad performed terrible, as no rider had a fitness higher than 85 :coolSmile.

September summary

September was the month of Martijn Maaskant, as he won the GP Jef Scherens and the GC of the Tour of Britain. The 2 Canadian WT-races were succesful with a 3rd for Robert Gesink and a 2nd & 3rd for Pim LIgthart. Andy Schleck ended as the number 3 of the Vuelta a España, and won the points and KOTM-ranking!
imageshack.us/a/img827/1452/1september.jpg

Rankings

World Tour riders
The top 3 of the Vuelta take the first 3 places in the WT rankings, but in the opposite order. So Andy Schleck is leading, followed by Igor Antón and Vincenzo Nibali.
imageshack.us/a/img513/994/2wtr.jpg

World Tour teams
Thanks to Nibali, Radio Shack - Nissan jumps to the 2nd place. Monster Energy - Subway stays in the lead, with twice the amount of points as Radio Shack. Lotto - Belisol is in 3rd place.
imageshack.us/a/img515/3200/3wtt.jpg

Continental Tour riders
Enrico Rossi is still the number one, Stijn Devolder still the number 2, and now, Domeico Pozzovivo is the number 3.
imageshack.us/a/img59/3403/4ctr.jpg

Continental Tour teams
Vacansoleil looks to be assured of the CT teams-win. Behind the Dutch based team, there is a nice battle going on between Team Type 1, Liquigas - Cannondale and Saur - Sojasun.
imageshack.us/a/img694/6916/5ctt.jpg

CQ riders
The top 3 is exact the same as in the World Tour ranking.
imageshack.us/a/img13/5560/6cqr.jpg

CQ teams
Monster Energy - Subway is in the lead, followed by Lotto and Radio Shack.
imageshack.us/a/img201/1706/7cqt.jpg

Wins riders
With 1 month to go, Igor Antón and Fabian Cancellara will battle for the most wins of the year. Both have won 13 times so far. Sprinters Mark Cavendish and Edvald Boasson Hagen follow with 11 and 10 wins.
imageshack.us/a/img534/8229/8winsr.jpg

Wins teams
But the team with the most wins is Monster Energy - Subway, with 52 wins. Lotto follows with 30 and Saxo Bank with 26. CT-team Vacansoleil is in 4th with 22, tied with Team Sky.
imageshack.us/a/img542/5753/9winst.jpg

October preview

The last month of the year brings us a lot of Italian classics with Il Lombardia as the grande finale. Too bad, we also have to go to China for the Tour of Beijing.
imageshack.us/a/img411/5735/11october.jpg

Our goals
- Considering the decreasing fitness of our riders, 1 win would be great.
