Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco

Stage 5

Today has a lot of hills. 9 categorised with a few more not categorised. It is going to be a hard day today. I need to get time on the other competitors, especially Froome as we head into the final time trial tomorrow.

The Race

Visconti attacked early.

Unfortunately he couldn’t get away from the peloton.

Plaza won the first Intermediate Sprint with 75km to go.

Anton attacked with 29km to go. Martin followed and I was on Martin's wheel instantly.

The favourites group of 5. Martin, Anton, Rodriguez, Uran and me.

We are 39 seconds behind Roche who is still leading from the breakaway.

The 3 best riders in the race together after the final climb.

Only 4km to go.

500m to go

AND I DID IT!! I got around Martin just before the finish and I take the win!

2nd was Martin and 3rd Anton.

Well a great stage! I took the win! We gained a lot of time on Froome! I think I am one of the best TTers in the top 2 so I hope to get 18 seconds back on Martin and take the overall win.

Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco

Stage 6

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/Stage%20Profile_zps5qxxb5gv.jpg

The final stage is a 24km hilly TT. I am 2nd overall 18 seconds behind Martin. I am a better TT rider then Martin so hopefully I can TT well enough to hold of the likes of Froome and get enough time on Martin.

So I had a good TT but Martin had one too. He takes the overall win by 3 seconds to me. Rodriguez held on to the podium on losing 1.17 in the 24km TT. I am happy with my performance though. I won a stage, got 2nd overall, and won the youth rankings. Anyway I will see you at my next race which is the Amstel Gold Race I believe on the 14th of March.

I'll seeya there

Nairo

Aaaaaargh so close! Still deserving of BananaBanana

Also 'I'm a better TTist than [Daniel] Martin'. Then [Tony] Martin smashes you in the TT Pfft
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Stage Profile

The Amstel Gold Race is here which marks the start of the 3 Ardennes classics. Valverde is our leader but I am a free element so basically I can do what I want. I think this season we can win all 3 classics. Let's see if I'm right. Today is a 251.1km race with hills everywhere!!

The Race

The leading group of 3 had a lead of 3.31 on the peloton. It included Gautier, Salerno and Clarke.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/AGR%201_zpsqqvxpzxp.jpg

42 seconds behind is Cano and 32 seconds behind Cano is Hardy, Soupe, Mezgec and Gutierrez.

With 200km to go the leading group of 8 has a lead of 8.21.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/AGR%202_zpsgas401fl.jpg

7km to go and the leading group of 5 had formed. Gilbert, Martin, Betancur, Roelandts and Rodriguez. I am in the peloton and Valverde is 1.19 behind the leading group. He is by himself chasing.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/AGR%203_zpsyrnjflpk.jpg

Valverde attacked with 2km to go. He wasn't going to catch the leading group but Gerrans was just ahead and that was 6th place.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/AGR%204_zpssctv6ots.jpg

1km to go and Roelandts is leading the race.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/AGR%205_zps3ktynlij.jpg

Well no one could catch Roelandts and the outsider beats the favourites. Gilbert takes 2nd and Betancur 3rd.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/AGR%206_zps80ipitm4.jpg

Valverde caught Gerrans and passes him to take 6th place.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/AGR%207_zpsh2sfkswl.jpg

Visconti won the peloton sprint.

Well still a good race. Valverde improved on his result last year by 4 positions. He just wasn't strong enough for the leading group. I wasn't feeling too good today. Hopefully La Fleche Wallone will be better for me and maybe Valverde will he get his maiden Ardennes classics win.

Seeya then

Nairo

A Good result for the team with four riders in the top twenty Wink

Jakstar22
Yeh it was a great race from the guys Sutty! One plus up would've been better but 6th is still a great place and he improved on last year which is great too!

Stage Profile

The 2nd of the 3 ardennes classics has arrived. Today we are racing La Fleche Wallone! Today's race is 197.6km long with not a lot of hills but really sharp and hard hills. It will be a very exciting race today!

The Race

The leading 3 with 109km to go. They have a gap of 6.31, it is dropping.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/LFW%201_zps4zmgqscy.jpg

With 39km to go the worst thing happened. Our leader Valverde fell hard!

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/LFW%202_zpstfaweryy.jpg

With 18km to go Roelandts and Gilbert attacked. Intxausti tried really hard to follow.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/LFW%203_zpsfeqmxsfq.jpg

Valverde got back to the front and attacked instantly.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/LFW%204_zpsmcwician.jpg

With 10km to go it was Roelandts in front on his own. He has already won the Amstel Gold Race. Looks like he is going for 2.

With 1km to go it was all back together at the front. Intxausti is trying to hang on. Can he get a top 10?

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/LFW%205_zpsiztqjggg.jpg

And Its Rodriguez who takes the win!

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/LFW%206_zpsyscslyak.jpg

2nd goes to Vanendert and 3rd Anton. Our best rider is Intxausti in 13th.

Intxausti did great! He took initiative and followed the attack. Sad he couldn't get in the top 10, he really deserved it. Valverde did his best once he got up to the front of the peloton again but he just couldn't get away. I got beaten in the sprint by Froome but my fitness is horrible at the moment. I'm hoping it improves before Romandie.

Seeya soon

Just had a big catch up! Great ride from Nairo in Pais Vasco! So close to the GC victory. Nice riding from Valvarde in Ardennes as well
