Sry about the subject. Man is clearly out of the dope after these years. This aint normal that such a comet will slow down like that. |

Dan Martin take 1 sec. in intermediate sprint. Rodriguez needs to take time in the last stage. |

Obvious winner is obvious: Francois Parisien (Argos) after being led out by Thomas Damuseau.
Dumoulin, Poulhies, Ratto, Wyss next.
Says a lot about the sprinter quality left.

Way to improve on his canadian classic placing last year
Quite underrated, Parisien. He's quite good in the hilly stuff and in the sprint as well

Nice work by Martin and Garmin today nabbing a bonus and then staying close enough to the front to get the right side of a few splits - puts him 14 seconds up on Purito now https://www.pelotonwatch.com/results/2...tage5.html

Figures for almost all of the last climb for Martin and all of the climb for Purito and Quintana (source vetooo @ammattipyoraily) :
Port Aine (last 17.10 km, 6.54 %, 1119 m). Dan Martin: 45 min 43 sec, 22.44 Kph, VAM 1469 m/h, 5.53 W/kg.
NOTE THE LONGER DISTANCE BELOW DUE TO LACK OF DATA FOR MARTIN AT THE START OF THE CLIMB
Port Aine (18.35 km, 6.70 %, 1229 m). Joaquim Rodriguez, Nairo Quintana: 49 min 29 sec, 22.13 Kph, VAM 1490 m/h, 5.58 W/kg.
Bearing in mind a reported 4700m of vertical ascent in the stage and being off the front all day and and and a long last climb that's a very impressive (and in case that's misinterpreted I personally feel totally believable) performance from Martin in my opinion. What the numbers don't show too well is how much I enjoyed it
Interesting. Given that J-Rod and Quintana have the same W/kg, I assume it's re-calculated numbers and not SRM ones (otherwise it'd mean their weight is the very same) ?
If those three riders weighed 70 kg (good ol' 70+8 kg model), they'd have done 387 W during approximately 45 minutes (Martin), or 390 W during 50 minutes.
The human limits are believed to be around 410 W for 40-45 minutes at the end of a stage with a lot of climbing prior, and to vary of about 1 W/minute before of after that.
So, it's high performances, 4 or 5 % below the limits of acceptable, not 15 % above as in 1996-1997. It shows riders are already on a very good form. |

That's right it's not SRM data, though I don't suppose their weight is drastically different.
Also you might find this interesting https://www.cyclismas.com/2013/03/a-di...formances/
Have had about 2 hours sleep so I might be remembering wrongly from when I read through a few days ago but it's basically an attempt to compare climbing performances from any (decisive) climb against recent (post bio passport) historical performances.
It also attempts to factor in the exertion time, unlike current calculations - e.g. we currently look at a figure of say 6.2W/kg and might subjectively say it's reasonable for a short 15 minute climb but is a tall order over say 45 minutes.
It's a bit heavy going but I found it interesting even if, like any method, it's not without its weaknesses.

Purito's ideal racing weight is 1kg less. Let's assume they're similarly close to their ideal weights to be in this form.

Sounds like a good guestimate. I've edited the post above to include a link to a new method of performance comparison I found interesting too for those so inclined. |
