Maybe I'm asking something weird, but last year, when the last group on the Galibier wass too late, the direction decided that the riders just were allowed to continue their tour. Isn't there a way which the director could "help" the riders who have fallen?
No, that is totally different. They missed the time limit, but there is a rule that states that the rule can be bended.
Crashes can only be compensated for in the final 3km of a flat stage.

He's only 2'50 down. I still believe. |

Is he ? I mean, 2/3 minutes isn't that bad. I know he will loose a lot in TT, but with incoming attacks he can gain too. Nobody's chances are over whom are under 4 minutes now and are not injured.

Why was Taaramae given the same time as the peloton?
Was wondering the same thing. Might be corrected but suggests he somehow got held up in the last 3km :/ |

Yes, but what I mean with that, is that the direction can decide to intervene. But that is no option? The commentator said that maybe it was possible. |

The fact that it now shows him with the same time as the peloton proves that he had a problem
Plus the fact that he was casually riding in to the finish was also a bit of a clue!

Most of them if not all will lose over 4 extra minutes in the 2 TTs (combined). The GC is over for them. The bright side is that the top contenders didn't lose time and are not injured - not counting Gesink as top contender here because of his broken leg, he's the biggest contender among those who lost time.

Rabobank stating that they were in a good position in the peloton is shit.. if they were placed further up in the peloton this would never have happened. You can't continue to say it's back luck - why does Evans never crash? Why didn't Armstrong crash for 7 straight years - luck? I don't think so. This is a part of the game and being able to be up in the front consistenly over the course of 3 weeks is very vital.
A part from that, is would obviously have been better if Evans and Wiggins lost 2 minutes instead. They didn't. That means that Rolland, Valverde, Brajkovic and the Rabos need to attack even more in the mountains. Actually, I don't think it is as bad as some says for the race in generel. |

kumazan is right, the most of the main GC favourites were far enough forward to miss the crash - Wiggins, Evans, Sanchez, Menchov, Van den Broeck. It's more the outsiders who have suffered today.

Unfortunately not able to watch it at work and read in 1 or 2 of the feeds he was held up in the crash. Glad it was only 119 riders and not 120... |

I allude to the fact that BMC has been in the front the whole Tour. When you have such a attitude it decreases the chances of crashing or being held up. |

Again: it is and has become an even bigger part of the game.
