Good luck. With that team to support Andy that's what I have to say. But I believe in you, and it's a strong time trial team overall, and this is PCM, so Andy doesn't need Frank. |

The kick off of the 98th Tour de France is at the Passage du Gois, a passway through the sea that is covered with salty water for a long time each day. In '99, the slippery roads caused some carnage with Alex Zúlle and Michael Boogerd losing many minutes and other cyclists that fell in the sea.
A group of 5 riders jumps away before the Passage du Gois: Kevin van Impe (Quick Step), Sebastian Langeveld (Rabobank), Sebastien Chavanel (Europcar), Luca Paoloini (Katusha) and Geoffrey Lequatre (Radioshack).
Thanks to hard work from the Saxobank and Euskaltel-riders they get reeled in. Romain Feillu wins the Intermediate sprint, in front of Jens Keukeleire, JJ Rojas, Tom Boonen and Maxim Belkov.
After the sprint, a duo rides away. HTC's Alex Rasmussen and FDJ's Jérémy Roy get a maximum lead of 5 minutes.
With 20km to go, the lead is only 1 minute and the 2 know they have no chance. 6km later, they get caught by the peloton.
Sky (for EBH) and Garmin (for Farrar) do the work, with 10km to go.
Our sprint train (Rosseler-De Gendt-Vermeltfoort-Kittel) go to the front, but with 4km to go they get blocked behind Michael Rogers, who lets himself drop back in the peloton. No chance for us this stage
3km to go, at the foot of the Mont des Alouettes (2.2 km climb to 4.7 % - Category 4), Sky is in the lead with Juan Antonio Flecha & Rigoberto Uran, leading out Edvald Boasson Hagen.
Then the climb starts:
The Sky-riders are joined by Heinrich Haussler, who leads out Tyler Farrar.
Boasson Hagen starts the sprint with one km to go, and is only followed by Vacansoleils Romain Feillu. Feillu looks the strongest of the 2 and waits for his jump.
And Feillu brings the French crowd in extacy, in winning the first stage of the Tour!! His 3rd of the season, after a stage in the Vuelta de Catalunya and the Tour de Romandie. EBH gets 2nd and José Joaquín Rojas 3rd. Sebastien Rosseler is the best placed Monster-rider in 22nd position.

Good luck in the Tour! You're team isn't very strong in the mountains so that might be a problem.
Jeremy Roy already in the break, PCM is very realistic

@ Spilak23, baia & Flash127:
I know the team is not strong enough in the mountains, only De Gendt and De Maar are capable in helping Andy, especially on the 1st and hors-category climbs. But that is a real challenge
And I fear the TTT, never have done better than 20th in a GT in it.... I always start to slow (even tough all the riders are on dot 85), so my tactic will be to start faster (dot 90, and the riders with 75 and over in tt (De Gendt, Terpstra, Rosseler) ride 15sec on the lead, those with 70-75 in TT 10 seconds and the others 5 seconds). I hope I have the time to race the TTT tonight, so tips and advice are always welcome!

yea i always get stuck on TTT. always finish at least 1 minute back from the lead. sorry no tips here and unlucky for the stage one. and is Kittel your main sprinter. Its just i have a feeling there is a fair few sprinters that could beat hime easily but hey! everyone enjoys a challenge. and itll be interesting to watch
great story man! look at this. i was following at least 10 stories but now about a month later, only 2 stories exist and yours is one of them! the other one (Andy Shleck: Quest For History) is about to finish after the TDF and Vuelta so congrats! awesome story keep it up!

Stage 2, a 23km long Team Time Trial with start and fiish in Les Essarts.
First of all, I'll show you some disappointing teams or teams with GC-contenders that lost time:
Liquigas, with Ivan Basso and Vincenzo Nibali did terrible and finished in the 21th place at 1'51. Only Katusha did worse, one second.
Place 20 for Omega Pharma - Lotto, with Jurgen van den Broeck, losing 1'33.
Alberto Contador's Saxo Bank - Sunguard disappoints also. The team of Bjarne Riis finishes in the same time as Omega Pharma - Lotto, 19th place at 1'33.
Michele Scarponi and his Lampre - ISD team gain 7 seconds to El Pistolero and JvdB. Still 18th place at 1'26.
HTC - Highroad is one of the favourites to win this TTT. They start very fast, 2nd split time in the first sector, but collaps completely in the last part and finish 1'07 behind the winning team in 14th place.
The split times:
1st split time:
1. Sky 9'42
2. HTC +'8
3. Radio Shack +'13
4. Garmin +'17
5. Leopard +'19
22. Monster +'51
2nd split time:
1. Leopard 19'49
2. Garmin +'11
3. Sky +'23
4. Radio Shack +'24
5. BMC +'27
21. Monster +1'25.
So Leopard - Trek rides a very impressive 2nd sector, whereas HTC falls back. Monster moves up one place, but will ride a strong last part!
The Basque team of Euskaltel rides a very good TTT, only '49 behind the winner in 9th place.
What a surprise at the finish line. Monster Energy - Ford, was only in 21st place at the 2nd split time, but rides extremely fast in the last sector, the fastest of all teams!! 8th place at '46!
Radio Shack, with Leipheimer, Klöden and Brajkovic, perform only 6 seconds better than Monster, 6th place.
Another surprise in 5th place: Vacansoleil - DCM with the yellow jersey of Romain Feillu finish in 30'03, at '36.
The 4th place goes to BMC with Cadel Evans. '33 behind the winners.
Sky is one of the favourites to win this TTT> They start fast, loose a bit in the 2nd sector and can't regain it in the 3rd. 3rd place at '24.
That leaves 2 teams: Leopard and Garmin. It was very, very, very, very close. Leopard - Trek was the first to set the time, 29'27.
Then comes Garmin - Cervélo: 29'27... Hey, the same time. Who will win this?
It's Garmin - Cervélo!
1 | Team Garmin - Cervélo | 29'27 | 2 | Leopard Trek | s.t. | 3 | Sky ProCycling | + 24 | 4 | BMC Racing Team | + 33 | 5 | Vacansoleil - DCM Pro Cycling Team | + 36 | 6 | Team RadioShack | + 40 | 7 | FDJ | + 45 | 8 | Monster Energy - Ford | + 46 | 9 | Euskaltel - Euskadi | + 49 | 10 | Quick·Step Cycling Team | + 56 | 11 | Rabobank Cycling Team | + 1'01 | 12 | Cofidis, le crédit en ligne | + 1'03 | 13 | AG2R La Mondiale | + 1'04 | 14 | Team Europcar | + 1'06 | 15 | HTC - Highroad | + 1'07 | 16 | Pro Team Astana | + 1'11 | 17 | Movistar Team | + 1'19 | 18 | Lampre - ISD | + 1'26 | 19 | Saxo Bank SunGard | + 1'33 | 20 | Omega Pharma - Lotto | s.t. | 21 | Liquigas - Cannondale | + 1'51 | 22 | Katusha Team | + 1'52 |
GC: Tyler Farrar gets to wear the yellow jersey, because of his 5th place in stage 1.
1 | Tyler Farrar | Team Garmin - Cervélo | 4h52'10 | 2 | Fränk Schleck | Leopard Trek | s.t. | 3 | Tom Danielson | Team Garmin - Cervélo | s.t. | 4 | David Zabriskie | Team Garmin - Cervélo | s.t. | 5 | Christian Vande Velde | Team Garmin - Cervélo | s.t. | 6 | Fabian Cancellara | Leopard Trek | s.t. | 7 | David Millar | Team Garmin - Cervélo | s.t. | 8 | Jakob Fuglsang | Leopard Trek | s.t. | 9 | Jens Voigt | Leopard Trek | s.t. | 10 | Maxime Monfort | Leopard Trek | s.t. |

Word from the DS: We are very satisfied with the 8th place. Andy Schleck loses only 46 seconds, where we calculated losing 1'30 or something like that!

We can tell you that we will be very silent on the transfer market. We're a new team, and all the riders, except Laurent Didier will stay with the team in 2012. We've signed some riders who excell in the U23-races (presentations will follow after this Tour de France). But we've signed one great rider!
It's up to you to guess who it is! I can only tell you that he fits in the team's philosophy (Benelux-based or very talented non-Benelux-rider).

I signed Kim Kirchen in my Career on Hard and he became 1st in Tirreno - Adriatico, 4th in Giro and 2nd in the Vuelta so maybe it is a good choise to pick Kim Kirchen but maybe his stats decreased in this year, could you post them? |
