Kind of annoying, Valverde was in perfect position, but swung off to the side to wait and pace Quintana up the climb. I feel like he would have grabbed 3rd or better today, if he hadn't done that.
Vuillermoz with a surprising result though, great for him!
I wasn't surprised. He was 6th at Fleche, and mostly, french riders peak for the Tour. I expected him in the Top 5, especially with Valverde fulfilling his promises in helping Quintana.
Chris Froome did something of very impressive today and I was expecting him to lose time but nope he gains time instead, and he's the new leader after only 3 stage but I hope he can wear the yellow until Paris it would be fun to see.
It's not fair to those who crashed yesterday, those who will crash tomorrow or later. Lots of riders already complained: "What if I crash tomorrow? Will they neutralise aswell?"
The ambulance excuse is bs. There have been many crashes with many more victims. They never cared about the ambulances. Big big fail by aso if all ambulances are gone after 3 riders who to be brought to the hospital.
Well you might call it bs. I call it needed emergency case. If there was only one seriously injured and all docs were waiting okay but the whole road was full of riders on the ground.
It was an extreme case and needed a quick decision. I am quite sure that it it's almost not possible to make all people agree with the decision. There are pros and cons for both sides obviously.
For be the pros are bigger.

They shouldn't have gotten in a situation where all doctors are unavailable to begin with. At least one doctor should have the order to follow the peloton, maybe put one in Preud'homme's car so het can't get stuck behind.
I also don't get how you can get low on medical staff or medical vehicles in a race that has over 1000 vehicles and gow knows how many people are involved.
In my opinion, they made a bad decision and tried to fix it by claiming safety issues.

Gesink hasn't fallen yet. Must be a new personal record. Never gone this far in a tour without falling
Wasn't that one Vuelta on he's peak when he almost made it..still managed to fall and git some hole into knee..or leg? Few stages before the end.

Yup, on the 2014th Vuelta!
He was on top 10 every mountain stage which made him 7th at the GC, but he got injured and didn't start on the 18th stage!
Poor Gesink

Bjarne Riis was in studio today, probably one of the most knowledgeable on Contador. He was kinda worried, as should you imo. Im not saying it is lost by any means at all, just stating that he didnt look good at all today and lost a relative extreme amount of time on half an kilometre. I know its Huy, and and know you, but I would be a bit worried after his display today coupled with Froomes beast-ascent.
Riis is a former team manager, part of his job was to worry. Contador's job is to deal damage. Whether he will or not, nobody knows.. but no reason to get worked up over some seconds and early signs when the plan was always to peak in third week.
On the other subject: Valv doesnt seem super interested to me, almost disinterested. Has lost all splits so far and wasnt good today. I had expected him to dominate the first week and devote himself to Quintana in the mountains, but hell probably play it a little more conservative and conserve his energy early on, peaking for the mountains.
It's true, normally he is the nutter people want to drop in the classics and he is super aware. With the past two days, he didn't seem to care all that much, but maybe he's form is also just too low still despite recent Spanish Championship win. I'm sad that the Tour-only viewers will probably never get to see him again in full-on awesome control mode like he has practiced in the Ardennes this year.

My bet is one of the usual Huy suspects, but i would love to see Styby and Peter up there, go boys!
you keep on surprising with winners pick ..
I listed any winners pick? You see the name of Sagan or Stybar and you immediately think that i see them as winner, despite i wrote something completely different, it is getting boring. But i know you have a tough time with english, so that is understandable...for you information, second part of the sentence means that i WISH them to do well, while my pick was one of the usual suspects on the Huy, thus Valverde or Purito.
Usual Huy suspect has won, great job from Purito, but Valverde was not even bothered there, strange with first week built fo him.
Terrible high speed crash there, not a nice images. If there was a lack of medical assistance after that crash, it is very reasonable to stop the whole race, even more when there is not much happening and group is almost caught, no way they would stay in front anyway. Some people here should get there shit together, some posts are really horrible to read when you think about riders and their health. Good decision, no influence to race at all.
How much bad luck you can get, that is probably a question that is raised by Cancellara, after two crashes desdtroying almost all of his goals for this year. Also Dumoulin and Gerrans, oh gosh.
