Well played from Cadel there, snagging crucial seconds.

Giro d'Italia
May 11th, 2014 : Stage 6
Sulmona – Campo Staffi: 178.5 kms - Mountains

Our first true mountain stage in the Giro this year. The course isn't very difficult and sets up for a lot of firepower to be thrown up on the only major climb of the route on the way up to the ski resort.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/BMC/2014/Giro/61.jpg

A decent sized breakaway heads out early today, though their gains would be minimal as they fought for a category three KoM sprint, and only one intermediate sprint on the stage.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/BMC/2014/Giro/62.jpg

It doesn't take long for our first attack to happen at the base of the climb with Sergio Henao (Sky) makes his move.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/BMC/2014/Giro/63.jpg

More attacks would come though as soon as he was brought back, started by Laurens Ten Dam (Blanco) and followed by Maxime Monfort (OPQS) and Joaquím Rodríguez (Katusha).
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/BMC/2014/Giro/64.jpg

Only Ten Dam would be able to stay away, but would be caught in a move by Cadel Evans riding to defend the pink jersey he stole on the last stage.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/BMC/2014/Giro/65.jpg

Though Evans too would suffer the feeling of being caught as Rodríguez would make one of his trademark attacks and leap out of the field and pass right by Evans.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/BMC/2014/Giro/66.jpg

He wouldn't be the only rider capable of a powerful move though as Belgian champion, Jurgen Van den Broeck would end up winning the stage with a well timed attack/sprint for the finish line just beating out Purito.

Yea we are still in a good position, though concerned about losing time in the mountains already.

Giro d'Italia
May 12th, 2014 : Stage 7
Fiuggi – Ortobello: 232.4 kms - Flat

The end of the first seven days of racing in Italy comes with a flat stage to the town of Ortobello. Some undulating terrain dominates the first two thirds of the stage before the route becomes completely flat on the run in to the finish.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/BMC/2014/Giro/71.jpg

Five riders make up the break of the day though their chances are virtually none as the peloton keeps the speed high and never lets the riders gain too much advantage.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/BMC/2014/Giro/72.jpg

The sprint gets put into normal order when the teams takeover and bring out their powerful sprint trains. Orica and Sky the two formed up at the front after the Lotto train falls apart early.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/BMC/2014/Giro/73.jpg

The win goes to Daniel Oss of BMC, who came off of Matthew Goss's (Orica) wheel. Degenkolb (Sky) would claim second while the previously mentioned Goss would end up with third.

Amgen Tour of California
May 13th - 20th, 2014
Pre-Race Guide

The biggest race on US soil and a big race for many American riders from both the major teams and the domestic squads with something to prove. The eight stages make for a good length to the tour and a mix of terrain gives everyone chances for wins.
Stages one, four and eight set up well for sprinters, while stage three is considered flat, the final climb will likely take too much punch away from the pure sprinters. Stages two and six are for the punchers While the GC will likely be decided on the stage five time-trial and the climb on stage seven up to Mt. Baldy.

Team Goals

This is a race we consider to be part of our home turf, and we came in second last year with Tejay, winning this year is the only goal. Last year he finished only two seconds back and is looking stronger already this season. With him we have sent a very strong team with Cancellara and Van Avermaet along with a much improved Warbasse and the pair Amador and Brenes able to help. We also have our best sprinter on hand and our best young rider Kenneth Foss looking for hopefully a good finish especially in the TT.

I won't complain much, about either part. Yea, it was a great win for Oss, he got a perfect leadout from Goss to get the win.

Giro d'Italia Week 2
May 13th - 19th, 2014
Pre-Race Guide

Week two will start to sort out the pecking order of the race as we start with a long time-trial at 47.6km including a fairly serious bit of climbing in the first half of the course. Stage 9 is classified as flat, but the route looks to suit punchers much better or even a late attack from a climber. A pair of mountain stages, 10 and 11, with the finishes back at the base may help sort out the order, but could also just end in small bunch sprints. It would be a surprise if someone takes command of the race here, but riders will certainly be knocked out of the race. The final three days are very flat and will give the sprinters some great chances while the GC riders prepare for the challenges of the last week.

Team Goals

Week two will be a week of survival; keeping in contention. There are no mountain top finishes to create serious gaps, only two mountain stages that we must finish with the final group with. Added to that though is the long time-trial that be good or riders could lose minutes to the leaders. We would love to see Phinney get a win, or perhaps another win from Oss on the sprint stages at the end of the week. But keeping Evans up near the top is our primary goal.

Amgen Tour of California
May 13th, 2014 : Stage 1
Santa Rosa: 186.3 kms - Flat

Stage one of the Tour of California is about and around the city of Santa Rosa. There are a few climbs along the way which given the later point in the race could pose a problem to the pure sprinters, but I'd still guess on getting a sprint finish.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/BMC/2014/ToC/11.jpg

There was small breakaway that stayed clear for the better part of the stage, only being caught in a late attack.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/BMC/2014/ToC/12.jpg

With BMC in the break it would Orica taking over leadership of the peloton trying to give local favorite Peter Sagan a chance for the sprint win.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/BMC/2014/ToC/13.jpg

That attack though would come from Spartacus as he makes a move with around 20k left in the race and just a little bit of a climb.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/BMC/2014/ToC/14.jpg

At 5k left to go it would be apparent that no one had the power to chase him down and he would be riding to a solo victory. Earning early points for BMC and the strong team they sent.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/BMC/2014/ToC/15.jpg

And without any fuss, Fabian Cancellara goes on to win the stage, raising his arms to the sky in celebration. though a sprint was still going to happen behind him.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/BMC/2014/ToC/16.jpg

Teammate Alexander Kristoff would take the bunch sprint for second giving BMC the double. Jakob Fuglsang (Astana) would take third ahead of Peter Sagan.

Giro d'Italia
May 13th, 2014 : Stage 8
Magliano it Toscano – Grosseto: 47.6 kms - Flat (ITT)

The best early time was set by Kristof Vandewalle (Accent) whoul would post a time of 1h12'46" easily the best until BMC got some shots at it.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/BMC/2014/Giro/82.jpg

Though all times would get shot down when World Champion Taylor Phinney took to the course, easily winning the stage with the only time under 1h10'.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/BMC/2014/Giro/83.jpg

The surprise of the day though would come from Janez Brajkovic (Astana) who would finish 4th on the day only 1'38" behind Phinney.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/BMC/2014/Giro/84.jpg

Teammate Vincenzo Nibali would do well in his effort to defend his title, taking 3rd 1'27" behind the World Champion and moving himself closer to the top of the overall.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/BMC/2014/Giro/85.jpg

Cadel Evans though would be able to do just a bit better than Nibali, taking 2nd on the stage and gaining a valuable 3" over his rival and regaining the race lead in the process.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/BMC/2014/Giro/86.jpg

Race leader Jurgen Van den Broeck would finish well, in 6th place but however would lose his jersey to Evans and give up some time to Nibali as well.

Giro d'Italia
May 14th, 2014 : Stage 9
Grosseto – Livorno: 227.5 kms - Flat

A supposed flat stage though the profile would certainly tend to favor the punchers. Some tough climbs in the last 50km will likely leave the sprinters behind.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/BMC/2014/Giro/91.jpg

As always a group gets out to form the break of the day. Today there are five riders who would get all but the last climb in before getting caught by the peloton.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/BMC/2014/Giro/92.jpg

On that climb the attacks would come from the major riders, the only one to hold though would come from race leader Cadel Evans who slips away under the 10km left banner.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/BMC/2014/Giro/93.jpg

Coming into the finish he still has ever so slight of a lead as the GC guys and Sprinters are all fighting for position and a chance at some bonus time and the need to bring back Evans.
i12.photobucket.com/albums/a218/Centaursunder/BMC/2014/Giro/94.jpg

Evans would win the stage! Only ever so slightly over a very fast Matthew Goss (Orica) while Manuel Bellletti (AG2R) would take third. The bonus seconds could be huge for the BMC rider as he pushes his lead out even further.
