30th June 2011 - British National Championships
(Stamfordham)
This year's National Championship are classified as a flat race, but after a small recon with some of the Team GB guys, it is far from that in places. It is a very rolling route, with some steep climbs in places.
The route could go either way, but no doubt it will be Team Sky who will take full control.
34km: After a very fast start to the race, it was Team Sky who took control of a very depleted peleton.
55km: After a number of weak attacks from many teams, surprisingly it was Ben Swift (Sky) who put in a really big dig off the front. I was certain he would be one of the guys for the finish and not the break.
60km: However, Swift's attack went nowhere and was soon back in the peleton. But it wasn't too long before David Millar (Garmin) and David Clarke (Endura) went off the front.
74km: Behind the 2 man break, Jonny Bellis (SaxoBank) and Andy Fenn (AnPost) tried to jump across the gap, but sadly never had enough to make it all the way.
121km: Team Sky took control again, keeping the break in check. Millar and Clarke gained a maximum of 6'34" before the pace was increased for the chase.
164km: With around 30km to go, The Bellis/Fenn group was brought back, and there was only 1'03" to Millar/Clarke.
169km: With only 45" between the Millar/Clarke group and the peleton, the reigning champion Geraint Thomas (Sky) went off the front. This was a big move, and a very dangerous one at that!
Sadly the rest of the screenshots did not export, so there are no pictures to accompany the rest of the report
186km: With 7km to go, all was back together. The lesser teams hit the front when Thomas attacked, and working together, he was pulled back very quickly.
190km: Team Sky took control in the lead out, but surprisingly instead of working for Ben Swift, they were working for Russell Downing. I took Downing's wheel, with Ian Wilkinson (Endura) behind me.
192km: As the sprint started, no one attempted to challenge Sky, and I sat behind Downing, waiting for the right moment to open up...
193km: Downing opened his sprint, seeing the finish line in front, but I was awake to it. At the 300m to go mark, I went at full gas, bursting out from around Downing, taking the win. I am the British Champion!!

Well I do have Gossy as Aus RR Champ
Sky just didnt let the break go at the start. And with no sky guy in the break all stage, they did all the work. Thanks for the comments though

@Sutty: The bunch is coming along nicely!
@Pinktay: Interesting idea... Do you mean like a half nat champs half green jersey, or are you thinking a green jersey with nat champs stripes?
@Ian: Glad you like the late addition to the Q&A A misprint was blamed, and a number of copies had to be recalled before being re-released
@Franco: Banana number 3! Thanks. And you weren't late at all, I only posted late last night.

I was thinking something along the lines of what Chavenal wore when he led both the GC and Points Jerseys at the tour a few years ago |

Critérium du Dauphiné
m | Name | Team | Time | 1 | Tony Martin | HTC - Highroad | 25h17'53 | 2 | Christophe Kern | Team Europcar | + 1'03 | 3 | Rein Taaramäe | Cofidis, le crédit en ligne | + 1'05 | . | Points | Tony Martin | HTC - Highroad | KoM | Samuel Sánchez | Euskaltel - Euskadi | Under 25 | Rein Taaramäe | Cofidis, le crédit en ligne | Team | Team Europcar |
What an amazing Dauphiné for the team! Tony Martin was superb, coming away with victory in the Overall GC standings, the Green Points jersey and two stage wins in the Prologue and ITT.
Tour de Suisse
m | Name | Team | Time | 1 | Andy Schleck | Leopard - Trek | 30h42'13 | 2 | Bradley Wiggins | Sky ProCycling | + 55 | 3 | Andreas Klöden | Team Radioshack | + 2'00 | . | Points | Tyler Farrar | Team Garmin - Cervélo | KoM | Wout Poels | Vacancsoleil - DCM | Under 25 | Marcel Wyss | Geox - TMC | Team | Team Radioshack |
We headed to the Tour de Suisse in great spirits after the performance of Marco Pinotti at the Giro. Sadly, it wasn't to be, as Marco crashed on stage 3, forcing him to withdraw from the race. Peter Velits took up the leadership, and did a great job to finish 8th overall on GC. Matt Goss came away from Switzerland with a stage victory, and Michael Albasini missed out on the KoM jersey but just 3 points.

Valverde to leave Movistar?
Former Spanish Champion Alejandro Valverde has today put Sky and Leopard on high alert, after revealing that talks over a new contract have broken down with his current team. The Movistar man is looking for a more lucrative contact, but after some disappointing results so far this year, Movistar are refusing.
Sources close to the rider claim that he stormed out of a managerial meeting last week, and Team Sky seem to be the preferred choice should Valverde leave Movistar.
