Hey roturn, you´re back! Good to see that. Wasn´t here for some weeks, so I missed a lot of your story. I don´t think it´s too late for a ´good luck´ Wink

roturn
Thanks all for the bananas. Wink
Was really a bit surprising as the daily form was just average. But having a great fitness helps a lot in these races, where the World Tour teams don`t peak for.
All these last results help my team a lot to get a PCT license. At the moment I am 17 I think with ~630 points while the 21st only has ~440. So already a small advance. I really hope I can do it as I might have to edit quite a lot otherwise to find new realistic teams for the already signed riders. Wink

@batista: Great to see you back here. Do you plan a story with PCM12 as well? I also considered to convert my Garmin story and I still do. Maybe for PCM13. Wink
But I always wanted to play with a small team and since there are 3 divisions I started this story instead of my old Garmin one.

Tour of Utah
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_logo.jpg

The Tour of Utah is a pretty new race with its first appearance in 2004. Except for 2007 it was raced annualy and belongs to the UCI 2.1 category and became more and more popular.
It`s held in the Rocky Mountains area and so obviously pretty mountaineous with ~9000 meters of height within 6 days.
The last two editions were won by Levi Leipheimer. Only former winner at the start is Francisco Mancebo who won it in 2009.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_Profile.jpg

Two pretty flat time trials. But with only 21km ITT in total this is not as bad for the pure climbers as it could have been.
Stage 2&3 might be a mixture of sprinter and puncheur stage. The hills are already pretty hard but probably not hard enough to gap the GC favourites.
The 5th stage is very hilly and has rarely a flat road in between. And stage 6 obviously will decide the overall. So it will be exciting until the end when it goes up high into the Rocky Mountains.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_Team.jpg

Dombrowski trained hard in the last weeks and improved his climbing skills right in time before this race. So he surely belongs to the race favourites. Ian Boswell showed some great racing within the last month and can`t be underestimated.
Mannion and Avis are their main helpers in the mountains. Then it starts to lack real climbing skills. I will have to work hard as well just like Atkins, De Buyst and Craddock, who will concentrate on the two time trials again.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_Startliste.jpg

The American teams obviously dominate the start list. But still a Spaniard is announced as top favourite. Mikel Nieve leads the Basques here and belongs to the best climbers. Rabobank also sends a very strong team here around Krijswijk and Martens. Also the Colombians are back. EPM brings 4 great climbers here and with Vuelta a Colombia race winner one of the strongest. So they can be expected to show something in the last stage.

Team Goals

- Top 3 (Sponsor Goal)
- 2 in Top 10
- Stage Win

Personal Goals

- Breakaway appearance

Don`t expect daily updates. Will have less time in future again. University starts soon again and I am on holidays from 5. - 15.
Hope to get Utah ready before then.

I would love to start again with PCM12 but there´s not enough time right now. My apprenticeship will end in about 10 month. After that, I´ve got a lot of time for a new story. God, I´ll be a lucky man, when this thing is over....

sutty68
The team go in to the Tour of Utah with a very high morale after recent performances, so what tis the Team goal Wink

Miguel98
Good win for Eastman, I hope the team does well at the US.

EDIT: Btw, Roturn, wich e-mail adress should I use to register to PPDB?

EDIT 2: I don't think anyone can subscribe to PPDB anymore. Sad

@Batista: Sure. Other things are more important. But already looking forward for next year then. Wink
@sutty: Team goal being a podium and another top10.
@Miguel: Strange. Maybe sometime later again.

Tour of Utah

Stage 1 - Utah Olympic Park (3,7km)
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_1_20-37.jpg

Just a very short opening prologue. Lawson Craddock belongs to the tpo favourites here. But the man to beat obviously is Taylor Phinney, whose form should be a bit better than in the last meetings. Also Oliveira, Rasmussen and Bookwalter must be named.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_1_29.jpg

Pretty early I started the race. I had no expectations today and so I didn`T go all-in. I might get something in the middle of the results today. More important to save energy for the more important stages.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_1_31.jpg

Surprisingly De Buyst had the best time after his ride beating guys like Rasmussen or Van Winden.
But then came Phinney who completely destroyed his time. 22s faster on such a short course. Very well done.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_1_33.jpg

And also Craddock wasn`t able to beat him. He still came closest but still 9s back. But nevertheless another great time trial result for him.
Boswell as 10th showing another great performance and also Dombrowski didn`t lose too much time on most opponents. So a good start for us. Our main goal must be to avoid any time loss until the hard final stage, where we want to attack.

Next stage probably not before Monday.

Good race for Craddock. Roturn, can you pm'ed the links for the DB? I think that would be easier. Thanks if you could do that.

Good start from Ian Boswell. Wink And Craddock showing his great time-trialing talent. Smile

Pellizotti2
Excellent result from Craddock. Phinney isn't easy to beat on home soil. Smile

And also a very strong performance by the team overall. Several Bontrager boys in the top 15.

Thanks all. Boswell indeed stronger, but due to Dombrowskis +3 in the mountains in comparison he is still the leader.

I had hoped for the stage win actually. I beated Phinney last week in Elk Grove by 1s and also in the Nationals. But obviously his form became better and better since then. But maybe in the longer ~17km time trial on the 4th stage.

sutty68
Great TT for Craddock, just nine seconds behind Phinney Wink

Good start in the Tour of Utah with the 2nd place. At least, BMC had to work to defend the GC-lead, not Bontrager.

Thanks all. Indeed I prefer BMC to do the pace and except for Kruijswijk no favourite really gained time here.

I almost think that I won`t be able to finish the Utah reports before my holiday as I have just until Thursday and might not be at home a lot. But here at leat the 2nd stage.

Tour of Utah

Stage 2 - Ogden - Ogden (186,3km)
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_2_1-1863.jpg

Welcome to Ogden, where we start and also finish todays stage. It`s meant to be a flat sprinter stage. But the two hard climbs on the second race half could also mean some big selection. So surely not the most sprinter friendly stage.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_2_2.jpg

Together with some other riders I try to join the break of the day. Most popular name surely Liquigas` Canuti.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_2_4.jpg

Good for us that the peloton calmed down later and we were allowed to go. BMC and Kelly Benefit control the pace behind keeping us at 6min with 100km to go with the first smaller climb ahead.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_2_6.jpg

After a short attack I take the maximum points on the first mountain sprint.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_2_8.jpg

Also on the 2nd KoM I take the maximum points. There won`t be any mountain points on the next two stages, so it would be great to take the lead today as it would guarantee at least 3 stages in the KoM jersey.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_2_10.jpg

The peloton really highered the pace on this climb and a lot of riders lost contact. A group of 44 with most favourites includes Craddock, Boswell and Atkins.
Unfortunately Dombrowski was one of the victims here and is only in the 2nd group of 48 riders.
Even worse for Colombia winner Baez, who is in another later group. And he has no support. So obviously he just lost his leader role. Not too bad for them as they had 3-4 possible leaders.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_2_13.jpg

Avis, Mannion and De Buyst did a good job bringing Joe back into the first group. The next climb just starts and he needs to gain some positions soon if he wants to avoid it for another time.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_2_15.jpg

2km ahead of the last KoM Canuti attacked and created a gap. Also Alan Perez and Christopher Jones are going a bit faster now with me struggling. Will Routley already lost contact some time ago.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_2_17.jpg

I fought myself back to the duo. So I crossed the line as 3rd and will wear the KoM jersey tomorrow and on the two days after at least. This is another great success for me.
Just a bit later we were caught and only Canuti was solo in front.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_2_19.jpg

Then a bad crash. 2nd overall Lawson Craddock on the asphalt as also Tom Peterson. Both can continue the race but they won`t finish within the first group today and obviously Craddock will lose his good position. Hopefully he isn`t injured as well as he still hopes for a top result in the long time trial.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_2_22.jpg

With less than 5km to go also Canuti is caught. He was surely the strongest in todays break but the peloton was better.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_2_24.jpg

In a pretty weird sprint without any sprinters left Kruijswijk proves his great form and wins the stage and important bonus seconds.
2nd for the young Howes, who might step up to Garmin`s leader eventually and also Beltran Suarez shows some great form and might be EPM`s leader now. Joe and Ian both finished within this group not losing any time which was the most important today.

Plus I`m wearing the KoM jersey in the next stages this can definitely be considered a successful day. Only Craddock`s crash wasn`t ideal. On the other hand the doc gave us green light as he doesn`t seem to be injured.

Great ride from Ryan today Wink

I bet he will look splendid in the Mountain's Leader jersey over the next few days Smile

Alakagom
Bit late, but great win with Ryan, and already doing great in Utah with the KoM jersey.

Boswell and Dombro all look well placed before the big mountains.

Great effort from Ryan. Hope he can get into the head of the race later in the next stages. Smile

@Sutty: Sure it will look great. Always a success to get something with Ryan.
@Alakagom: Thanks. Working pretty good right now.
@Freitas: Hope so as well. Might give it another go.

Tour of Utah

Stage 3 - Saratoga springs - Orem (169,3km)
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_3_27-1693.jpg

Todays stage is pretty flat and should be for the sprinters. As there are no KoM points I will also wear the jersey tomorrow. Good for me. I could need some rest after yesterdays effort.
Joe and Ian will stay focussed and want to avoid any time loss while Craddock will have to recover after yesterdays crash as he wants to perform great in tomorrows individual time trial.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_3_28.jpg

At the start our team was presenting the KoM jersey. Really a good feeling.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_3_30.jpg

Joshua Atkins was sent into the breakaway. The Kiwi has to work a lot of times in most races. Today he gets the deserved freedom and can present himself. All his companions come from smaller teams, so the big teams might organize the pace in the peloton later.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_3_32.jpg

At the moment it`s still only the PCT teams Spidertech for Houle and United HealthCare for Förster/Keough.
85km and almost 6min for Atkins.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_3_34.jpg

But they had no chance. With 6km to go they were caught and the sprinter teams bring their riders into position.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_3_36.jpg

Deserved win for Jake Keough after his team worked the most. Also Spidertech with a good result as Houle finished just behind with stage favourite Robbie Hunter only finishing 3rd.

Our best rider was Craddock on the 20th with the rest of us finishing safely in the pack.
So no changes in the GC today.

Tomorrow is the time trial, where Craddock wants to beat Phinney another time this season, which will be really hard as his form seems to be very good at the moment, so he is close to unbeatable.
Also Boswell is an outsider name tomorrow while Joe only has to keep his time loss as small as possible.

Tour of Utah

Stage 4 - Miller Motorsports Park (19,8km)
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_4_38-198.jpg

A bit less than 20km of time trialing today. So not the longest luckily as in especially Joe isn`t such a great time trialist. Boswell on the other hand already showed some more than decent performances against the clock.
Our best chance today is Lawson Craddock, who belongs to the best within this peloton.
I won`t have much chances today so I take a calm day.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_4_39.jpg

Very early it`s time for Lawson to start his goal: Stage win. Selander is leading at the moment, so not the best comparison yet.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_4_41.jpg

A bit later it`s also time for me. Still wearing the KoM jersey I go from the ramp. The spectators are not yet that enthusiastic. They surely wait for the bigger names later today.
Meanwhile Lawson takes the expected 1st at the intermediate.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_4_44.jpg

He also takes the first in the finish beating Bookwalter by 36s. This was a pretty good ride by him.
Also Dombrowski in the finish now and he did pretty well. The small climb obviously helped him as well. 9th place for him so far.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Utah_4_46.jpg

Boswell did better than him and takes a provisional top10, where Joe is already out again.
But nobody is able to beat Taylor Phinney. The young American is one of our best talents and surely will be one of the very best time trialists in a few years. He is 22s faster than Craddock, which can still be counted a success for Lawson actually.

Our three leaders did pretty well today and also my 34th is better than expected. So in general a good day for us. Two harder stages yet to come and there we want to improve even more to secure our top3 goal.
