If Riis' only way of getting enough money to run a team is by signing with Specialized and getting Contador, I'm sure that he doesn't mind |

Riis also knows Andy very well, if anyone will know how to beat him, it'll be Alberto and Riis teaming up.

It's a pretty big FU to the Schlecks and Kim Andersen to sign the one guy they can't beat.

Precisely! But I guess that's the price for keeping the team alive. But it should be a funny thing to watch coverage of AC and his spaniards participating in the funtime that is: "The Specialized-Sungard Teambuilding Tour 2010"!
Oh well, as long as Chris Anker is there to set the pace up the Galibier next year

Why should it be different for them to participate to compared to everyone else? And it is not certain that there will be a trip this winter as the guy who has been organising it is no longer with the team. |

Well, the philosophy and values pf Riis Cycling is very different from the spanish cycling culture. Their pretty much stuck in the old "stars and watercarriers-system". And even without B.S. Christiansen they'll continue they'll continue the trips because they are an essential part of the pre-season programme for Riis Cycling.

But they have had Spaniards and Italians in the team before without any problems, why should there be any with Contador & co.? |

I said earlier in the thread that Sungard/Riis might get a weaker team next year. But if they sign Contador + spanish helpers that looks like a strenghting compared to A.Schleck and Fuglsand (imo). Then they question is F.Schleck replacement, dunno if they are one of the teams hunting Kreuziger? Also I've seen Cunego romoured away from Lampre, not to Sungard thought (iirc) but maybe?
Riis Cycling might still live up to the "Manchester United of cycling" that atleast the Norwegian commentators liked to call them.

Cunego won't go to Riis if Contador goes. Cunego has one of the fattest paychecks in cycling at the moment and I doubt that he will take any significant pay cut. And with Cunego, Contador and Cancellara, you have 3 of the very best payed cyclist in one team, and I doubt anyone has the money to have them and any good helpers on one team. |

That has been the good thing about Saxo Bank/CSC/Tiscali whatever.... They have 2-3 very strong riders, and then some old stars that are not longer that good. Julich, Kroon, O'Grady and so on. They don't get all that big a paycheck as they flopped horribly before they signed. And besides that there is 15 young riders, 8 crappy ones, and 7 very talented ones.
So that basically makes up one hell of a team, instead of overpaying riders that has had 1-2 good seasons. Won't happen at Saxo Bank...

Veikkanen to Lotto
Meanwhile, Astana's press release states that Contador had asked them to close the deal by July 25th. They offered a contract well before that, with a higher salary than he currently earns.
On July 25th, Contador asked for another 48 hours to decide. At the end of those 48 hours he declined the offer and will not stay at Astana

If Menchov is signing for Astana what is going to do Rabobank?
Because yes they sign Luis Leon but I don´t think his is prepared for a top 5 in a GC of any of the 3 big ones...
Also Freire will retire, I think maybe one year more, but anyway he is not the one he used to be. Gesink is good maybe for Giro or Vuelta but I think not enough for TdF.
What is Rabobannk hidden card? is there any?

Menchov is more likely to go to Katusha. It's a russian team, and Astana is a Kazakhstani team. Russia <-> Kazakhstan...lots of friction there.
As for Rabobank, no they don't have hidden cards. They honestly believe they can go with just Gesink.

Cancellara-> BMC
Samuel Sanchez-> Don´t know but out of Euskatel...

some guys just don't want to be leaders. Klöden, I suspect also Szmydt.
But some guys who dont deserve to be leaders..demanding it. Kreuziger is fresh example (he has time to develop...but additude is correct already)
I am not sure if i got it right, Kreuziger was demanding a leadership?I think it was clear he is a leader for a Tour, the problem is that Liquigas doesn't care about Tour de France

They do care. Nibali and Kreuziger were supposed to lead at the Tour this year
