Amstel Gold Race 2016
Willy: It's my first time in a May classic, so I'm pretty nervous here. Martin had a brilliant Ardennes campaign last year, and this season I want to help him do that over. I will also pay attention and maybe come back one day as a leader. We'll see how today goes.
Welcome to this action-packed Amstel Gold Race. As we go into broadcast, we immediately see an attack by Vincenzo Nibali!
It's the second time today we cross the finish line on the Cauberg. We are 77 kilometers from the finish, the leaders are: Van Avermaet, Kwiatkowski, Valverde, Bakelants, Henao, Nibali.
The peloton now crosses the finish line, too. They're 2'31" behind the leaders. It's Garmin that's leading the pack, we recognize Sep Vanmarcke, who's riding an exceptional year!
Garmin is losing man fast, and now it's Willy Wouters who makes himself ready for a little time trial!
Amazing work he's doing. He's been pulling for 15 kilometers now, and the break is caught!
[...]
Only a small group at the foot of the Cauberg, who's going to take the victory here?
Gilbert has no energy left for a jump, it's a sprint, Moser is leading! He wins! Vanendert is third!

I'm real happy about today. I did some good work and Martin finished 4th, not bad. I delivered him at the foot of the Cauberg, which is better work than I thought I could do on my first time here. The profile is tough and tiresome, but I believe I could lead a team here one day!
It made me see what else is out there and I might start training differently. I feel I've reached everything I could in time trialing, so maybe I should stop concentrating on time trialing and start working on that punch that some riders have. Get some more explosiveness to my body. It's something to think about!
See you in Wallonne!

Good race for Garmin, but for once you didn't win a classic

Not the best start for Willy, however I didn't have time to congratulate the double in RvV and P-R, well done! |

Haha, seriously? Stijn's on 85 average and high on junk (obviously) but Windwheel can't even finish on top 15? Oh wait, there he is, dammit... Keep it going Ian, Daniel is going to win on of the calssics!

PCM rulezz - It feels weird
Jakstar22 - Thanks, will do!
TomC - Thank you!
maxime86 - It sure isn't. I didn't expect him to be at the front so long. Fitness is only 80.
sutty68 - Thanks
TimoCycling - He's just here serving Martin, this year!
krisa - Moser was practically unbeatable, Dan did good in that fourth place!
rogvi97 - Sure hope so, and preferably L - B - L
I'll try to finish the Ardennes today! |

Liège - Bastogne - Liège 2016
Willy: I skipped La Flèche Wallonne to be on my strongest here. That Mur Van Huy is too steep for me, anyway, I can do better work here. Martin won last year, we hope to repeat that today!
BMC has been leading the peloton all day long, they're obviously keen on the victory with leader Gilbert!
And an attack by Willy Wouters! This is early in the race, we're still 70 kilometers from the finish.
He doesn't go far. After 5 kilometers, he's reeled in again. We don't know what he meant to achieve here, but everything's back together again!
And another attack! This time, team leader Martin is sticking to his wheels!
A more successful attempt, it seems, as they created quite a gap. Some reinforcements joined them and they can ride towards Liège with 5 now!
Oh, the pace is too high for Wouters, he can't follow! His job is clearly done, it's all up to Martin now.
Some riders who missed their chance caught up again as we head towards the finish, it'll be a bunch sprint here!
And Phil takes it on the line, what an amazingly close sprint! Sagan second, Martin third!

Just to clarify, my first attack was team tactics. I was supposed to go to anticipate Martin's attack, but BMC and Liquigas kept the pace too high to get a gap. Then we changed tactics and I just launched Martin.
I'm pretty happy about today. It's unfortunate we couldn't win, but we did our best and I had a good race. It's definitely a tougher race than the Amstel Gold Race and all those hills just drain the energy right out of you!
See you in a month or two!

Hi everyone!
We're now halfway May. The Giro is well on its way and the Tour of Belgium is coming up. Both of us will get back in competition there. We won't necessarily be looking for good results, but mostly to build up form to our common goal: Tour de France 2016.
We've both spent some time off the bike and we have to admit it felt a great reward for a tough season so far. We even took the families on a weekend to Germany, and we got to talking there one evening, and agreed on something.
We have been writing this blog since the very beginning of our careers and we dreamed of reaching the top of the professional cycling milieu, and we wanted to take you all along with us on that journey. Now we feel it's time to go on different roads. We've reached places we never dreamed possible and we feel the time has come to close down the blog. But we want to say goodbye in a fashionable way, in style.
So, we have decided to finish our blog at the Tour de France. The day after the Champs-Elyssée, we will make our final entry. We had an amazing time and these past five years have been an extraordinary experience. We documented every step of the way and now that we've reached our full potential, we feel our story is complete. The Tour will be an excellent test of our greatest abilities. We will compete with the best of the world on all levels.
Our next entry will be at the start of the Dauphiné. Stijn's schedule changed lightly and he'll be starting at the Dauphiné with Willy. We'll be glad to see you there!

It's a shame but i understand why
Hopefully they'll have a good final race at Le Tour, perhaps "Doing a T-Mobile" and getting the Jaune and the Vert?

dienblad will be happy to see his story length remaining untouched
But I think it's a good decision, it's better to (possibly) start over with a new scenario and maybe with the new game. I'm sure that (if you're actually going to start something new) it will be as compelling and innovative as this one. Thanks for the good read.
Oh, and now go ahead and show us the complete destruction of the cycling world by the deadly duo. I want at least twelve stage wins, the overall and all jerseys!!

Sad to see the story go but a good time to end. Thanks for the great story Ian. Now I need to find a new story to read.
And I think 15 stages is more realistic with all jerseys. Winning GC by 10 minutes. Points by 150, mountains by 100 and youth by 30 minutes. And then just smoke teams

Whoooaaa haaa haaa (that means an evil laugh). My story stays the longest
Really, sad to see the story end, but I think the way to do it is a great one. Self chosen story end, just like I did, great job!
Now crush them all in the Tour!!
