So you're saying have a race too late in the season, in a location that makes it unfeasible for most cycling fans to watch it live, nevermind actually travel there to watch it, in a nation that doesn't have a single decent cyclist, with stages that aren't anything special, with riders that are tired after a long season, just to make a huge loss year for year?

You can join the UCI channel if you wanna watch the race, dunno if Eurosport also sends it. But thats not the fault of the race. Eurosport could send from Tour of Beijing, they broadcast so many other races, some even smaller than world tour races.
Since a lot of people are at work or in school when they race, it could be broadcasted again late in the afternoon like normal EU races does.
You have to invest in making cycling bigger. And why do you think China has 0 great riders? Because cycling isn't a big sport over there yet, therefore thy obviously don't create much talent.
Besides - Cut the crap about the stages, they are just as good as some of the other smaller WT races. It's up to the riders to create the race.

They do broadcast it, but the timing just sucks. Nothing much to be done about it, but having very few viewers in Europe certainly does nothing for the popularity of the race.

It probably would, only that no one really gives a fuck. It's just not prestigious at all, and the only reason any big riders go there is for some cheap WT points.

That might be true, but that seems to use the same logic as having say the Italian Super Cup in Beijing: It might boost the sports popularity, but not much else. What would be better would be more .1 or .HC races in the region, and more Continental teams, to develop the talent.
Besides - Cut the crap about the stages, they are just as good as some of the other smaller WT races. It's up to the riders to create the race.
Strongly disagree. We've got four fairly flat stages as well as a pretty _____/ MTF. That's not half as good as say the TdU or any other WT race, really. If you want to make a stage race that sprinters can score big points in, fair enough, do that, but make sure a few bother to actually turn up.

I don't think there's anything wrong with a WT-race in China. But why on earth is it organised in one of the most polluted cities in the world? I'd say Kunming or so would be a better option.

Whats wrong with the stage today? A hilly sprint where the guys for the overall actually where in for the fight of the stage. Stage 3 is also very up and down with many climbs, if a team wants to create a race and shell out the sprinters, they can do so with no problem.
Stage 4 well you can't call that anything but a mountain stage. Stage 5 well thats the second sprinters stage.
You get 2 hilly stages and MO with only 2 flats. I know 1 of the hilly stages where cut down, but still.
One thing i do agree on, is getting more one day races and smaller tours going. I think whats going on in the US atm. is very exciting. They now have 3 very entertaining stage races (Utah, California and USA pro challenge) at 2.HC with several one day races in the 2.2 category featuring for the 2015 season. |

Well, quite funny to see Rebellin win in a week that sees Andy Schleck retire. He started his career in 1992.

I used to fight to win the World Tour. But then I took an arrow in the knee... Congratulations for 3rd place for Rui Costa, it's his 28th birthday today. |

Carlos Betancur did pretty good today. Finished 24th as the last guy with the same time as Gilbert.
Maybe he'll have a good spring 2015.

According to Sporza, air pollution in and around Beijing is currently at a level where the government ask people to keep doors and windows closed and remain inside. I mean no offense to Dusen, but it's a disgrace that this race is happening.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Yes. Because of the conditions i agree, but not because of lack of audience or "amazing stages" or whatever reason people have come up with in this thread. |

Watched Giro dell'Emilia and I have to say that apart from Rebellin, Zardini had a huge performance. He worked for Bongiorno for about 15 kms and he also dropped him

Nah, you're a bit confused, I guess. He won Stage 3 in 2013 Tour of Eurometropole, but it is in Belgium, so there's a big difference
Farrar retired, don't you remember?
