I seriously don't get why you think Dumoulin's eventual podium in a GT would be so hard to believe. Just look at Indurain, who only started showing potential for a GT in 1989, when he was 24 years old+it was only a mountain stage win from a breakaway, nothing more. Otherwise he was just a TT-ist before 1990. We see pretty much the same here, apart from the fact he doesn't weight 80 kilos, but around 70, while being only 5cm shorter than the Spaniard, therefore a supposedly better climber. Maybe he's just in much better shape than the rest or he's showing his hidden GT potential. But there's no point in exaggerating what he's managed to achieve. We're still only halfway the Vuelta so there's yet more to come.

Do you really want to make that comparison? Indurain' s arrival on the scene as a GT contender was down to one thing only EPO! If it wasn't for that he would of never of challenged for a GT. The only thing that is comparable between Indurain and Dumoulin is that they both ride bikes fast in a TT

Correct Indurain came with EPO and this was end of clean cycling.

I'm not trying to make a comparison but I'm saying that Dumoulin could become a good stage racer if he dropped a kilo or two and that I'm not so surprised by his performance. We are yet to see how he copes with the third week, but if he's healthy he could easily snatch a top 3. Purito is an awful TT-ist and can easily loose about 3 minutes. Aru will probably loose more than 2. Majka is a more serious threat, but he'll also loose at last a minute. This ofc is if Dumoulin can recover. But the TT is after a rest day so I don't think he'll have too many problems.

Of course they are tired, they have ridden le Tour.. so? It's not like Tour guys have been hiding in this Vuelta, they are still racing. But it doesn't change the fact that Astana duo went 1-2 on them in a strong, classy way.

And it also shows how incredibly hard it is to do the Tour-Vuelta double.. at least if you are doing the GC.

Certainly is true, never said something else; Valverde may be a really good sample of how to compare Tour-Vuelta. He is still holding up well and all but was certainly a bit of a pre-race favourite. Since he often times got injured or fell back in GC, he could ride with Vuelta in mind and keep some reserves? Now that he went real deep in Tour, he's got little left for Vuelta contrary to previous years. Then again, he dug deep last year as well and still came third... then again, Vuelta line-up last year wasn't that impressive compared to this year's.

Have to say I am not sad I fell asleep before the Gallina.

Also the only comparison with Dumoulin and Indurain is that one is on a much better version of EPO.

Actually this face is better than Armstrong's fake suffer face. lol

I've just seen the replay of the stage, it was an awesome ride for Landa. Too bad he will now help Aru secure the red jersey and stage hunting is officially off for him.

Oh come on, if Dumoulin is on EPO he would be crushing the rest or you're saying that everybody is on EPO currently. As a matter of fact almost nobody uses it anymore, because it can easily be found.

Contador started all this talk about Aru's face at the Giro when he called it 'la faccia brutta'

The whole cycling world being aware of micro-dosing it's not the smartest thing to do. I'm not saying he's clean, but he isn't gaining advantage over the rest for sure. I'm assured he's not the only doper in the Vuelta, and I think that if he's doped, then the rest aren't only on bread and water as well.

Tough stage yesterday alright:

So Froome is out of Vuelta. Fractured navicular he said.

Tried a twitter one but it isn't working for me...

Degenkolb surely has to get at least one sprint right this race surely.

Yeah, the Twitter integration is picky, you need to click into the tweet then select details and paste that url in between the forum twitter linkage :/

How do you come to the conclusion that micro-dosing isn't the smartest thing to do? The bio-passport gives the riders/teams/"doctors" parameters to work within, the correct micro-dosing program is undetectable! why do you think a team like Etixx have a "doctor" on staff who is a hematologist in Ibarguren Taus

Dumoulin should not be compared to Indurain.

He is the second coming of the Aitorminator! Cool
