I am getting close to the end of my season. Only a few race days to go now. Today is Il Lombardia which is the last monument of the year. I would love to win today. However, Valverde is here as well. I am the leader but he is free to race his own race.

The Race

A long hard race today. I attacked near the end which could've been the winner. However, I got caught and the sprint was on. I was able to get enough energy to hold on for 2nd place. It was Rodriguez that had the energy and speed to get past me. I held off Gilbert...just.

I'll seeya next season

2014 Season Preview

Hi there!

Long time no see! I have been busy over the summer with my family mainly.

For those of you who do not know me or are just joining us my name is Nairo Quintana and I am a Colombian Climber. I ride for the new Colombian team Bancolombia - Movistar Cycling Team (formerly Movistar Team).

If you missed it last season was great for the team. We got a top 3 in every Grand Tour and a stage win in every one thanks to Alejandro Valverde. We really satisfied our sponsor last season. However, the team decided to sign a new contract with Bancolombia. They wanted a secondary sponsor as well so we signed Movistar for 1 more year. The jersey has been created by a well known designer named Krisa, He has done an amazing job with the jersey this year which will be revealed after the National Championships.

Well the team is now heading on a training ride.

Seeya soon
Nairo

Training Camp - In Switzerland

Well we have all gone on a training camp in Switzerland going over the route of one of the mountain stages in the GP de Romandie. This route was a choice and 8 climbers selected it. I was one along with Valverde and Inxtausti. Just in case you were wondering the jersey we are wearing is one that is just for show. The jersey has not arrived yet. It will first show in the Australian Championships and if not there then the Santos Tour Down Under.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/TC%201_zpsj5ljj0lx.jpg

This climb was one that the team manager said was for a hit out. So I was like....Let's do it.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/TC%202_zpsb9xaxqhm.jpg

Valverde followed me behind. The guys behind just decided to work.

Rui Costa and Inxtausti managed to bridge the gap. The manager said hit out for the rest of the ride so me, Valverde, Costa and Inxtausti work together for a long time.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/TC%203_zpsgwh4ak8o.jpg

We had a sprint in between mountains. It was me and Valverde sprinting for the win.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/TC%204_zpssqsvuvcl.jpg

Valverde managed to take the win of the sprint just..

Capecchi was trying to catch up to us on the downhill.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/TC%205_zpsyc6qvlc1.jpg

I think I know who the best climber is...I dropped Valverde about 1.5km from the top of the last climb.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/TC%206_zpsud8sf0i9.jpg

Well I won the unofficial race at our Training camp!

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/TC%207_zpszarkqqq5.jpg

Valverde came in 40 seconds later. Then we waited. Rui Costa was next 4.37 behind me.

Here are the results of the training race camp thing.

Stage Profile

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/Stage%20Profile_zpsf7pf2qqo.jpg

A long hilly stage. We have both Cantwell and Ridenton riding today. Cantwell seems keen to go in the break today, so Cantwell will attack and if he can't get away Ridenton will attack as well.

The Race

The breakaway of 3 got up to almost 17 minutes and then started to drop There is now 39km to go. Someone out of this breakaway will win!

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/AC%201_zpsz4ebt3pe.jpg

21km to go and Matt Hayman attacks. Ridenton follows closely. Cantwell couldn't follow but is working hard to catch back up.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/AC%202_zpsk7duht0z.jpg

As the breakaway started the bottom of the climb the peloton was just at the top.

With 8km to go Ridenton attacked. Hayman had no reaction to the young Aussie's powerful acceleration.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/AC%203_zpsyw5a8ew5.jpg

No matter how hard Hayman chased. No matter how fast he was. No one was going to take this victory away from the young Leigh Ridenton from Bancolombia – Movistar.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/AC%204_zpso9t2jney.jpg

Cantwell crosses the line in 3rd 2.05 later.

What a race. The only 2 Bancolombia riders here got 1st and 3rd. Great race, just a great race. Now we head down to behind the podium where Paul Sherwan is waiting for Leigh Ridenton.

Reporter - Well Leigh, you are here in Ballarat surrounded by a massive crowd of Australian's. How does it feel to have won the national championships in only your 1st season in cycling?

Ridenton - Oh you have no idea how great it felt being able to follow every attack Hayman made and then being able to stand up and accelerate away on that last climb. I was flying today! Going across the line with my arms up! This is the best place to have my first professional victory!

Reporter - Well you certainly did make a great attack on the last climb. Do you think you would've been able to do it without Jonathon Cantwell in the breakaway with you?

Ridenton - Definitely not! Cantwell is such a great guy. I mean for him to give up his chance at victory to give me the best chance to win it...right there is what makes him a great rider. My victory today is more his victory, because without his help you would be interviewing Hayman right now and not me.

Reporter - Well Leigh, massive congratulations on your win today! A great way to get your tally started. We wish you all the best in the future and the best of luck racing at the Santos Tour Down Under. I'm sure everyone here will be there to cheer you on!

Ridenton - Thanks very much! Hopefully I can sprint against all the great sprinters that will be at the TDU!

Well as he said it Leigh will next be at the Santos Tour Down Under along with Jonathon Cantwell and Nairo Quintana just to name a few from Bancolombia – Movistar Cycling Team.

Thanks for watching the live coverage of the Australian Championships here in Buninyong.

We will see you next year!

Goodbye!

A flat stage today. Ridenton or Cantwell or Rojas Gil will be led out today. I will help with the lead out today.

The Race

The first rider to attack today was the British rider Alex Dowsett from the Bancolombia – Movistar Team.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/TDU%201_zpsh64iek96.jpg

Dowsett took the win of the KOM sprint. He is the lone breakaway rider 5.28 ahead of the peloton.

The breakaway sprint at a sprint point. O'Grady won ahead of Dowsett.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/TDU%202_zpsc3cvtrzu.jpg

Rojas Gil was on the charge and nothing was going to stop him from taking the victory today! Not Greipal! Not Kittel! Not even Mark Cavendish could've beaten him today! Rojas makes the team name none with the 2nd win for us already this season after only 2 days of racing!

What a great start to the Santos Tour Down Under! I was trying to lead Ridenton and Rojas out so then Ridenton could do the final lead out. What happened was as soon as Ridenton started to drop my wheel Rojas Gil saw Roelandts and changed to that wheel instantly! I guess it was a good call because he won the stage with a fantastic sprint! He waited and waited and when he thought it was right, he went for it! Tomorrow is the hills. Rojas could win tomorrow! We need to get him over the climbs!

Seeya then

Nairo

Stage 2

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/Stage%20Profile_zpscleb2zbj.jpg

Today's stage is classified as hilly. However, it is mostly flat until the last 15km or so. Today we go over the Corkscrew. I want to attack today but I don't want to steal Rojas Gil's leader's jersey. I will try and help him keep it today.

The Race

Dowsett attacks at the start of the race. Kaisen of BMC is following.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/TDU%201_zpsuwcrpwyn.jpg

Martens took the win. 2Nd was Offredo.

I led home the next group and I also take 3rd place. Rojas and Ridenton was in the same group as me.

Well we tried to get the best result possible and with 3rd, 7th and 11th place all 29 seconds behind is a great result. All we have to do is get back a little bit of time on Martens and Offredo. Tomorrow is another hilly stage. We will try there.

Stage 3

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/Stage%20Profile_zpsex8nqsot.jpg

Today is a 131.1km stage from Unley – Stirling. With hills most of the way there is potential for the GC to get changed a lot. We want to try and get Rojas back in GC. If that doesn't work I will try myself.

The Race

Dowsett attacked once again in Stage 3.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/TDU%201_zpsdfbg0x8s.jpg

Thomas Voeckler went out early on and managed to build a big enough lead to stay away and take the win.

2nd goes to Contador and 3rd Rodriguez.

So Rojas and myself stayed with the large favourites group. We lost no time and are still there on the GC. Tomorrow is flat. Rojas wants another victory. Its our job to give it to him.

Seeya soon

Stacked line-up but a solid start from Bancolombia so far!
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Now we have come to a 127.3km flat stage. Rojas won the first one and would like to do it again.

The Race

Arlon won the mountain sprint ahead of Martinez and Smukulis.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/TDU%201_zpsuxv3nntf.jpg

The sprint is a fast one. Ridenton and Rojas are on the left side of the screen.

i1381.photobucket.com/albums/ah237/jakstar21/TDU%202_zpsukglimem.jpg

Boasson Hagen was sprinting so fast that Farrar lost his wheel. Rojas was coming up fast but it wasn't fast enough. Boasson Hagen takes the victory with Rojas 2nd and Meersman 3rd.

Ridenton had a great sprint coming in 6th place.

Well another good sprint stage for the team. We narrowly missed out on the victory though. I lost a lot of time today. It is now only up to Rojas to get the GC win. I might head into the breakaway tomorrow. I could get the stage win from the breakaway.

Seeya then

Nairo
