When he wasn't getting a gap I always knew that Matthews would be able to pop around. nevertheless it was a great ride, and I think he has concocted the perfect blend of form and freshness. He will be strong later on.
RIP Exxon Duke, David Veilleux, Double Feature, and Monster Energy

Anyhow, possible (like a long shot, mostly) top-10 contenders losing time: Anacona + 30, Der Clerq/Monfort + 30, Elissonde +43, Kudus +1'38, Adam Yates + 3'31. And thats without Betancur, Cunego, Dennis, and Pinot who have lost even more.
Also funny how they cut the gap exactly AFTER Contador. Poor Chavez.
Because the gap occured right behind him
Maybe i gotta go watch the replay, but it just seemed to me there could be numerous of other gaps than just that one. And no pun intended against Contador at all, I honestly hope he will win this year after all he has been through, could be epic.
So, two more semi-rolling stages for the sprinters and then off to La Zubia. I think that the climb will be harder than anticipated (have heard numerous persons describe the Vuelta as a race which begins at stage 9). Made a post a few days ago about the climbs and those last 4 kms are nasty.

Watched the finish myself again. There is a tiny gap from Contador up but only like 1 sec. while there is a larger gap from Contador and down to chavez.
One could argue that 2 time loses should have been recorded then (for Contador and for the rest)
I dunno, really don't think anyone feels cheated tonight
the official youtube channel of the Vuelta did something that's freaking genius. their summarize of the stage are in two languages. (Spanish and English)
at the same time.
however if you have headphones, one headphone-ear has english and one has spanish. that's brilliant wish the Tour did that. they just use frence
Boonen standing.
Bouhanni also dropped now and will fight hard to make it back afterwards.
Matthews still in the peloton. Degenkolb just behind Froome!
Ciolek or Sbaragli being still in there would be cool.
Edit: Matthews almost dropped. Fighting the last few meters to the top for him.

Could be somewhat dangerous with Anacona, Sicard, Yates and Valverde involved, primarily due to Valverde. They still have a gap, and Valverde is now attacking our new break, or is just a better descender.
Chris Anker once again being useless for Contador, struggling to hang on as a pure climber in a +80 riders field and not being usefull in any other terrain.. I have seen that story repeat itself many times over the last couple of years.
I doubt this was a good move by Valverde since Goss and Degenkolb wants to win + Sky, Katusha and Tinkoff
