Shonak - That'd be awesome
Jeselyh - Thanks! Indeed, that's a great route.
YvesStevens - Don't get your hopes up too high, though |

E3 - Harelbeke 2015
Has it really been a year since I last stood here, at the start of the E3 prijs? It seems only 5 days ago...
Profile The mini Ronde. This year's edition promised spectacle, let's hope it delivers. Cancellara fell out with an injury only a day before the race. I don't know what it is or how long he'll be out. I'll let you know when I get more information on it!
The breakaway didn't go far today, because it was a 15 man group.
My first important moment in the race was when I blew my back tire. I had to wait for the car to change wheels.
Docker guided me back to the front of the peloton. I was back right on time for the important hills.
I was making an effort now anyway, so I decided to keep it up. Half-surprised, I just rode away from the peloton. Someone had left a gap and no one wanted to close it.
For about 10 kilometers I was all alone. But I wanted company, because it was still a far way to go. After a while, Vanmarcke joined me.
And a little later more favorites joined, and attacked again. There was no cooperation whatsoever and trying to counter the many attacks left me very tired.
Sagan got away and joined up with the two that had jumped away with 80 kilometers to go: Grivko and Stuyven.
Sagan, confident as he is, took the pace and thought he'd throw of the two before the finish. When he came to the line, though, tough little Jasper had hung on and finished it off, what a victory for the 22 year old!
Behind them, was so tired from countering too many attacks. I sprinted to a 7th place, but I wasn't happy.

It's a top 10, so it isn't bad. But there could've been more to it. If Stybar and Vanmarcke would've just relayed with me, we would've caught Sagan and sprinted for the first place. But, no, they let me do all the work and they attacked left and right, wasting everyone's energy.
Damn it!
But I feel strong. Stronger than I thought I was. I was isolated a bit early, though. It would've been nice to have Hayman with me in the final 50 kilometers.
Maybe Gent - Wevelgem can turn things around for me? Maybe I'll get my first classic victory?
See you then,
Matt |

Gent - Wevelgem 2015
Time for the classic that starts in my home town again! I'm keen on a good performance. I really want to win a classic (besides Kuurne) this season. How about Wevelgem?
Last year I managed a 2nd place here, on my first attempt. I'd say this is a race that suits me!
Profile
The main difficulty is the Kemmelberg, which is climbed twice today. But it should come down to a sprint.
Today, we took the race into our own hands for the most part. I was feeling strong and the team showed its support by keeping the pace high.
After the second climb of the Kemmelberg, I got into problems for a bit, I was badly placed. But Hayman took me right back to the front of the race!
And so we were back on track for the mass sprint. But with Greipel here, that wasn't our best option...
So with 18 kilometers left to go, I attacked out of the peloton!
Of course, they didn't let me go like that. I got stuck at about 20 seconds. I had to make a decision then: wait or go full gas. All or nothing. I decided to keep going. Don't attack if you can't take it to the finish.
My lead stayed about the same. From 20 to 25 seconds and back. With 5 kilometer left to go, I was still in front, though!
I made the final kilometer! And then they started the sprint behind me. I was completely empty now.
Noooo!
Argh fuck this shit!
Damn Greipel overtook me. The finish line was just 2 meters too far for me!
I was so disappointed, I didn't talk to anyone that night. I didn't talk to the press for a week. Now it's the eve of the day before the Ronde Van Vlaanderen, and I still haven't given any interview.
Instead, I've been preparing on De Ronde. I want revenge. I've been more focused than ever in the past week.
I haven't been this ambitious in a long time (at least not publicly). But my defeat in Wevelgem pushed me across the line.
Tomorrow I want to win De Ronde Van Vlaanderen!

Ronde Van Vlaanderen 2015
My team mates told me I've been on edge lately. Perhaps they are right. Ever since Wevelgem, I've been in a bad mood. So I wondered why that was and the answer is real simpel: I feel so strong but I'm not winning and it's frustrating.
Here in the Ronde I want to turn my luck around!
Profile
Interesting profile this year. We return to the Muur van Geraardsbergen! It'll make for an interesting race, that's for sure.
The team senses my frustration and they want me to win just as much as I want it myself. They took the race into their own hands.
Hayman even went so hard the peloton was splitting up terribly. At one point, we had a gap to the peloton!
There wasn't a group larger than 30 man at this point. Everything was under control up until now!
But then Sagan attacked. I was badly placed and couldn't react at the moment.
In the chase, the attitude of OPQS bothered me. They had three man there but hesitated. I did most of the work and I pulled hard.
Four of us were chasing Sagan at about 30 seconds. It was me, Stybar, Terpstra and Boonen. But it was only me, actually. Nobody worked with me. I got angry but it was no use.
I sat up, I wouldn't empty myself to bring them to Sagan.
And the lead grew immediately. I quikcly realized what I had done. I just ruined my own chance of winning the Ronde. My morale sank and I felt like shit.
Peter Sagan finally won his favorite race, at age 25.
Stybar placed an attack. I looked at the two OPQS boys to react but they didn't. I was so frustrated I didn't give them the pleasure of doing the chasing myself. The peloton caught us.
In the sprint for the podium, I was sprinting on pure frustration and anger. I raged towards the finish.
So in the end I finished 3rd. But I missed a big chance here. What were these guys thinking? I was so angry at Boonen and Terpstra, I think I just ruined my chances of having OPQS sign me for next season...

If you would've told me in advance that I'd be on the podium here, I would've said: "okay, great. I can definitely live with that!".
But the way it went down?
I'm slowly getting very frustrated. That big win is just underneath the surface but it isn't coming!

That's a great ride. To do all of of the work, then to end up with a good result, is incredible. A shame no one else wanted to win as much, or else it would've been a great win!

I'm gonna make only one statement : "what's the fuck is Demare doing at Tinkoff Saxo?"
Spoiler And you almost did one season while I was doing two weeks |

The Hobbit - Matt was really strong. I still don't get why Boonen and Terpstra didn't cooperate, though
sutty68 - So close yet so far
tpinot - Well, FDJ relegated so Bouhanni and Démare used their clause in the contract. And every story is different. I have different accents in my story, preferring speed |

Roubaix coming up now!
I also raced Scheldeprijs (finished 8th) but had a minor problem with screenshots so decided to forget about the report altogether, since it was a boring race which ended in a boring sprint Roubaix is much more exciting! |
