Sad news kicked off the 2037-season as Tadgh Holland, Thies Klaasen and Claudio Cesari all announced their retirement. All leave behind them long lasting legacies and those who have been following this story might remember how both Holland and Klaasen each dominated the early spring races.
But old friends leave and new ones take their place. Benoit Colbach, in his 2nd season after his return, still dominates as he did 6-7 years ago. After last years triumphant return he would go on to celebrate wins in Tirreno-Adriatico and La Fleche Wallonie aswell as his 4th win in Classica San Sebastian. Hugo Lambrecht had something of an ufortunate start this year as he finished 2nd in both Gent-Wevelgem and Ronde van Vlaanderen and 3rd in Paris-Roubaix. As an upset though, he did win the Eneco Tour.
After being injured only 4 stages in, last years Giro was not one to remember for Alessio Lella. This year he was back to try to take his 4th win. A usual it turned out to be a battle between just two men; Lella and Caracciolo. Caracciolo has won the Italian Grand Tour twice in a row, but now Lella took back his throne. With both Lella and Caracciolo getting older one must wonder how long this fight will go on before new names take their place. What is certain is that the Italian dominance on home soil doesn't seem to have an end; yet again we see the Italians completely dominate the Top 10. With the Giro getting fewer and fewer foreing competitors it has become more or less a race just for the Italians. Some might be happy, others might not be.
If the Giro has seemed a bit boring in the last years, that is not to be said for the Tour. Unlike the Giro where Italians do as they wish, the French doesn't seem to stand a change in their own race. With the two major GC-riders of the last 6-7 years, Kupiainen and Pronk, both aging the stage seemed to be set for frenchman Clement Franck who many hoped would improve on his impressive 2nd place from last year. That was not to be, as he only finished 3rd, more then 9 minutes behind Bastian Fischer who had more than 6 minutes down to nr. 2.
The 6-time winner Aleksandr Kupiainen didn't come close to getting his 7th title. Now aged 35 the years seems to have taken its toll on him. His dreams of equaling Armstrongs record now seem to be gone and the two 2nd-places he has in the Tour might come back to haunt him...
To see Fischer on the top spot shouldn't come as a surprise since he has had several Top 10-finishes in the last years. What was a surprise however was Swedens first ever GT-win. It came in the Vuelta and was thanks to Pontus Lindberg who has steadily improved over the last two years. This was only his 3rd appearance in the Spanish race, he debuted with a 6th place in 2035 and came 2nd last year behind 2-time winner Luis Filipe Gois, who failed to deliver. Not only can Lindberg brag about winning the Vuelta, he also took with him all 3 jerseys, leaving just the Youth-jersey to Rudy Clerc.
Last, some of you might have noticed a puzzling result in the World Championships. The Netherlands absolutely dominated both WCs, taking both first and second place. This was their first ever ITT-win and their 3rd RR-win.

Ah stuck at 6 wins, that's a bummer
But Maybe Armstrong will lose one of his titles, so Kupiainen is still in competition for the record |

This might be the last update from this story since my save file might have reached a "point of no return".
I've asked for some assistance in "Technical issues", but I don't have very high hopes...

The reason i found so many future greats is that I only spent money on scouts and trainers. I usually only had 7-8 riders in my team, all on a contract of 2000/week.
All 6 scouts were among the best in the world, the same goes for the trainers.

Great stuff.
Would i be right in general in saying that the generated "generation" did not contian many great stage racers?
Seems to me that Climbers dominated... |

Gillen Erleaga was the only really good "Contador-ish" rider I found. If I remember correctly he had 84 in MO and 82 in TT by the age of 26-27. However, he was without a contract from 2027 and in 2038 he still hadn't found anyone.
Long story short, you are absolutely right. There are two reasons why climbers dominate. First; there arn't any riders who are good in both MO and TT. Secondly; almost every GT was won with more then 7 minutes between 1st and 2nd. The biggest gap I saw was 28 minutes in the Vuelta. the rider in 7th was 50 minutes behind.
