Brixia Tour: Stage 1

Profile:
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia1.jpg

As in every TTT, the goal for today is to lose as little time as possible. We hope Brändle can pull us to a good time.

i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia3.jpg

The first good time was set by Vacansoleil. Led by De Gendt, who ofcourse can ride very fast, they set a good time of 21'01. That's good for Ruigh, Poels and De Gendt as they take time on a lot of opponents.

The camer crew didn't mind filming Team Geox as they were not going to do better as Vacansoleil. They rode a good TTT though and finish in the middle of the pack with a time of 21'30".
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia4.jpg

The first team to come close to the time of Vacansoleil was Lampre. Led by Spilak, Kondrut and Buts they rode a very strong race and come very close to Vacansoleil. Their time was 21'01" but the race directors put them behind Vacansoleil.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia5.jpg

Vacansoleil was still leading when Quick-Step was on the route. With some good riders like Cataldo and De Weerdt, they didn't want to lose any time today. They do not lose any time, in fact they surprise everyone and take the win here. Their time 20'57" is the only under the 21' mark. Malacarne is the first of his team to cross the line so he will wear the leaders jersey tomorrow.

Brixia Tour: Stage 2

Profile:
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia13.jpg

Two climbs will decide the results on these short stage. The last climb is 13 km long and should make up for the first differences in the GC. But with the stage being so short, big gaps aren't expected. Wyss will try to do as good as possible.

i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia6.jpg

A first break got formed on the flat before the first climb. Best climbers are Vila and Kangert. Two 4-rider groups are trying to close the gap on the climb.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia7.jpg

The best climbers out of those 4 groups got together and form the break. Salerno wins the mountain-sprint. The pack is 5' back.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia8.jpg

The pack came a little closer in the descent. Some riders then used the smaller hills in the middle to make the jump from the pack to the break. Efimkin, Noe and Firsanov start the last climb together with the early escapees. The pack is 2' behind.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia9.jpg

Quick-Step made a good pace at the start of the last climb and so the escapees got caught. That was the sign for Bertagnolli to try something followed by again Efimkin.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia10.jpg

They couldn't get away as Cataldo and De Gendt made the pace in what remains of the bunch. It looks like they are working for their teammates and have no personal hopes here. Leader Malacarne is dropped by the raised pace. Wyss was still riding good at the front.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia11.jpg

There was a hard wind so no attacks came untill 2 km to go. De Weert then made a strong move and it looked like nobody had an answer.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia12.jpg

De Weert could keep up and take the win. He is also the new leader. Behind him, Capechi, Poels and Ruigh were the strongest of the following group. Wyss finished as 7th in a bigger group a half minute behind the winner.

@FreitasPCM: You are right on simming. You always get weird results and the most annoying, breakaways winning on big mountain stages.

@dienblad: The game is French and there is known rivalry between France and Britain so I think Cyanide bugged Cav.

@others: Thanks! The signings will be announced shortly. I think you will like them!

Transfer News

The team management has been very active lately signing 7 guys who will help the team next year.

i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/flags/CZE.pngRoman Kreuzigeri1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/flags/CZE.png

i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/transfer3.jpg
We make a real splash on the transfer market as we signed Kreuziger, the most coveted rider on the market. He has been criticised that he didn't develop the last years but took a step forward this Spring coming in 2nd in Catalunya, winning Pais Vasco and doing great in the Ardennes Classics. He will certainly lead our team next year.

i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/flags/SLO.pngJanez Brajkovici1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/flags/SLO.png

i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/transfer4.jpg
The second signing is also a great one. He was in the balance with Velits but we chose for Janez as he had already proved that he can win one week UWT-races. He will go for such races next year when he isn't helping one of our leaders in a GT.

i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/flags/ITA.pngDomenico Pozzovivoi1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/flags/ITA.png

i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/transfer5.jpg
Another good signing. Domenico was riding for the smaller Colnago team but his team didn't get an invite to the Giro so he wanted to race at the top level again. He chose our team and will get a chance to shine in the Giro.

i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/flags/ITA.pngSimone Stortonii1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/flags/ITA.png

i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/transfer6.jpg
This small, young Italian climber improved a lot over the year and comes over together with Pozzo from the Colnago team. He will be a very good mountain domestique next year.

i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/flags/SWI.pngMicheal Schäri1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/flags/SWI.png

i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/transfer1.jpg
This Swiss is a very good rider who can ride very fast. As we have enough climbers in our team, he will help us on the flat stages of the big races.

i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/flags/ITA.pngEnrico Magazzinii1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/flags/ITA.png

i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/transfer2.jpg
Enrico is a very talented young Italian rider. He will be with our team and we will give him an opportunity to train all his talents. He comes over from Lampre.

i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/flags/ITA.pngTiziano Mainardii1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/flags/ITA.png

i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/transfer7.jpg
Mainardi is a very talented rider we signed after our scout reported him as a very talented rider. He has potential to become a very good classic's rider. He came in 9th in this years Ronde van Vlaanderen U23. He will join the team from the beginning of August.

Good new riders you have chosen especially kreuziger en Brajkovic they can win small tour or one day races

Avin Wargunnson
Great signings, especially Kreuziger, he will be good rider for GT's for you and best hilly rider.
I am of course little bit sad that Velits is not coming, but Brajko and Pozzo are great too Smile
Edit: Btw. no sprinters coming?

Brixia Tour: Stage 3

Profile:
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia14.jpg

A stage which is almost completely flat. We have some riders who can sprint decently but none is in the top class so who will go for it depends on the daily form.

i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia15.jpg

A break got formed on the first part of the race. The most notable riders in it are Moldavian champion Pliuschin and Anza, who won a stage in the Giro.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia16.jpg

At the front of the bunch, three teams organise a chase. Colnago (Beletti), Miche (Sczaszwinski) and Christinia Watches (Reihs) are doing all the work today.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia17.jpg

With 5 km to go, the pack has almost catched the escapees. Our man for the sprints today is Wyss as he is feeling good. He sits in the wheel of the Miche train where Rebellin and Schumacher lead out the sprinter.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia18.jpg

The peloton passing the escapees make up for a big mess. It looks like only one sprinttrain didn't had any problems passing the escapees. Reihs is in a perfect position right now with no one in his wheel.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia19.jpg

The Dane could easily finish up the stage and take the win. A very good win for him and his team. Wyss finishes around the 30th place after he got stuck behind the escapees.

Such things could happen. Wyss now goes for a top 5 on tomorrow's very tough stage.

@dienblad and FuglsangxTH3: Thanks!

@Avin Wargunnson: Thanks, I offered a contract to Bole to strengthen us in the sprints but he didn't want to join our team so no new sprinters. We will not get any good in the sprints but we will have a very good climbing team which is also positive.

@baia: Thanks, I hope it will be a good year.

FuglsangxTH3
Unfortunally you don't have sprinters (your focus for next year transfers must be a sprinter) but you must go for the top-3/5 in thougher stages

Brixia Tour: Stage 4

Profile:
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia20.jpg
The Queen stage of the Brixia Tour. The final climb is descended once and climb twice, with the finish being 5 km from the top. The last climb is still 9km so the overal will be decided here.

Four riders attacked on the flat part after the start and formed today's break. We have one rider there: Cheula hopes to survive as long as possible and help Wyss on the last descent and climb. The three other riders are Selvaggi, Clarke and Proni.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia22.jpg

The first mountain sprint was a hard fight, won by Proni in front of Selvaggi and Clarke.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia23.jpg

Quick-Step has controlled the pace at the front of the bunch for the whole day. When they are 6' behind at the start of the penultimate climb, Cataldo moves to the front to up the pace.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia24.jpg

Clarke was the first to get dropped at the front. Cheula waited for his leader Wyss in the last 3 km of the climb so Proni and Selvaggi were the first over the climb.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia25.jpg

Cataldo's pace was so hard that only 17 riders could follow. Schumacher (9th) is the most important victim. He follows in the first chasing group. Wyss is the only Geox rider in this group but he has Cheula waiting for him.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia26.jpg

We are on the last climb and the escapees are already caught. Nose is the first to attack with 7 km to go. Behind him, Cataldo keeps the pace high and Nose will get caught a bit later. Wyss is following Cataldo and De Weert.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia27.jpg

No attacks came untill 2 km to go when Smyd and Capecchi upped the pace. Three rider then had to let the other 7 go, Bertagnolli, Nose and onfurtunately Wyss are not strong enough.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia28.jpg

De Weert would easily win the sprint at the front for the stage win and grow his lead to his opponents. Wyss came in 9th a minute later. He is now also 9th in the overal.

La Grand Boucle made again up for a great spectacle. The win this year was for Cadel Evans. The Aussie had a great fight with Andy Schleck but he could come out on top.

Tyler Farrar kept dominating the sprints in the second part of the Tour. He won 3 more stages but had to let the prestigious victory on the Champs Elysees to Greipel. The American won the Green Jersey after 6 stage wins.

The Pyrenees started with Evans taking the win on Luz-Ardiden and Contador winning the sprint of a small group in Lourdes. A breakaway with Chavanel and Riblon then could stay away the fight for the win and the first also took the KoM-jersey. It looked like the fight for the overal would be between Evans, Contador and Schleck but the Spaniard chrashed on a flat stage together with French favourite Voeckler.

The Alps were the terrain were Andy started his work. He lost 1'30" to Evans in gap but fought back with a great stage win 2' in front of Evans in Pinerolo. He continued his dominance by also winning on the Galibier. The fight for the overal looked to be very exciting as Evans was not more than a minute in front of Schleck. Chavanel took another victory on Alphe d'Huez after a break with again Riblon. He secured his KoM-jersey after two stage wins on MTF's. Andy could drop Evans on the Alpe and after the stage, the overal was very close. Evans was ony 2" in front of Schleck with 41 km of TT remaining.

Schleck was ofcourse no threat for Evans in the TT and the Aussie could grow his lead to 1'40". Evans wins his first Tour de France after a great fight against Schleck!

Brixia Tour: Stage 5

Profile:
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia29.jpg
The Brixia Tour ends with a flat stage. We try to get in a good break as we don't have anyone who can compete in the sprints.

i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia30.jpg

First task of the day is done as we have two riders in today's break. Both Duran and Florencio are represented in the 11 men group for Geox. Other notable names are Richeze, Nerz and Firsanov.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia31.jpg

De Negri from Farnese Vini was part of the break when he fell during the long descent. He isn't injured and would be able to come back. Kozontchuk also fell and he had to abandon. Further investigations brought up an injury so his season is over.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia33.jpg

At the front of the bunch, we see the light blue of Astana and Colnago. These two teams are working for their sprinters Lorenzetto and Beletti.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia34.jpg

As with 10 km to go, the gap was still 45" Duran started pulling very hard. When he was exhausted with 5 km to go, Florencio made an attack. The pack isn't far off though.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia35.jpg

Firsanov would follow Florencio and passes him with 3 km to go. Can Florencio follow the Russian or will the pack come back?
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/brixia36.jpg

Both Firsanov and Florencio are overtaken by the sprinters in the last km and it is Mirco Lorenzetto who takes the victory in front of Reihs. Wyss finishes 7th on the day and moves up to the 6th overal as Smyd and Nose gave up and Poels and Cataldo lost some time in the last km's.

Too bad Florencio's try didn't last. Wyss did good in the last km's and finishes on a good 6th. Not bad.

Geox squad:
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/prueba2.jpg

A one day classic in the Basque country. The hills will certainly suit Anton and he has a strong team around him with Nieve, Oroz and Txurruka. De La Fuente isn't in a good form but a top 10 should be possible with this weaker startlist.

i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/prueba3.jpg

We have on rider in today's break. Matteo Pelucchi is in there together with 6 others. None of them is a good puncher.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/prueba4.jpg

Three riders make the jump to the front after the 2nd hill. Forrero, Honig and Marque are better punchers so they can't be underestimated by the pack.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/prueba5.jpg

Euskaltel upped the pace in the pack and reduced the pack to a small group on the 4th last climb. De La Fuente is in the 17 men group with some NetApp (Del Nero, Impey), NSP (Fothen), Euskaltel riders.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/prueba6.jpg

At the front, the three who joined the break later dropped the others on the next climb. Pelucchi was one of the first to drop so he waited for De La Fuente to help him on the flat part before the last two hills.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/prueba7.jpg

The penultimate climb was very narrow and De La Fuente was bad positioned so he missed the most important split. A 10 men group is leading. Fuente is chasing with 3 others.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/prueba8.jpg

Fothen could create a small gap on the last hill but 4 riders are not far off. The duo's can come back in the descent if they work together.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/prueba9.jpg

They do and the 5 will sprint for the win. Impey is normally the fastest but he is in the worst position.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/prueba10.jpg

It is Nieve who wins the sprint in front of Del Nero and his teammate Anton. Good win for the Basque in his home region. De La Fuente finishes on a 13th place.

13th is not good but his form is also not good. A top 10 maybe was possible though if he didn't get stuck on the narrow roads.

Geox squad:
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/sebastian2.jpg

Every year the week after the TdF, the top of the peloton fights for the win in the Clasica San Sebastian, a very prestigious one day classic in the Basque country. The race was part of the World Cup and is now a UWT-race. Most of the top punchers are here so we won't have a chance for a good result. Certainly not as most of our riders their form is weak. The sponsor goal to get a top 10 is impossible to reach so the goal for the day is to get in the break.

i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/sebastian3.jpg

A break of 11 got formed early. We have 2 riders in it. Cobo and Sastre are here riding their first race since long so their form isn't great. Also remarkable is that top favourite has 2 teammates in the break with De Greef and Willems.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/sebastian4.jpg

Two riders make the jump from the pack to the break. De Weert and Kroon so hope to get a good result.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/sebastian5.jpg

On the second ascent of the Jaizkibel De Weert and Kroon up the pace at the front and slowly everybody cracks. De Greef is the last to follow. The Geox riders were the first to crack. The pack is two minutes back.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/sebastian6.jpg

Cobo and Sastre get caught by the pack after the descend of the Jaizkibel. Andy Schleck is then the first favourite to attack. He won't get away though.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/sebastian7.jpg

De Weert and Kroon get caught on the last hill of the day. Mosquera and Scarponi look the strongest of the favourites but they can't get a big gap. All Geox riders are then already long dropped.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/sebastian8.jpg

No one could get away at the front and with 20 mostly flat kms remaining a 30 man group is still together. Boasson Hagen is clearly the strongest sprinter in the group.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/sebastian9.jpg

There come some failing attacks. The most notable by Schleck and Gilbert. The flat isn't made to get away.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/sebastian10.jpg

No one is still in front with 5 km to go due to a high pace by Knees for Boasson Hagen. This should normally be an easy win for him.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/sebastian11.jpg

Gesink made a long sprint from far out and is still leading with 1 km to go. But Gilbert is coming fast with Rodriguez in his wheel. Hagen got locked in and is searching for place to start his sprint.
i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd485/spilak25/sebastian12.jpg

It's Gilbert who keeps dominating the one day classics. Great win for the Belgian Champion. Boasson Hagen found place in the end and finishes as 2nd, Roche is 3rd.
