Simon Yates ( Avenir stage winner 2011 ) will lead GB in the sprints. He also will have a very good leadout if it comes to full on sprint.
I'm fairly sure Doull is their sprinter. He's quicker in pure flat sprints than Yates. Yates is a decent sprinter from a small group but he'll be more interested in the uphill stuff. |

The prologue will be interesting. The Australian duo you mentioned (I'd rate Howson as the faster of the two) against Sutterlin and Normann.
I'd be surprised if Ewan doesn't take out however many sprints there are. He is just that quick.
Sorry, but you obviously miss someone there...
*hint* he's Dutch.
I never said they were the only favourites, and I don't claim to know every single U23 rider. But looking at Van Baarle's results, I still rate the others higher in short TTs.

Well, Van Baarle beat Sütterlin in most prologues/short TTs last 1,5 seasons, is about the same level as Normann. Australians have done a bit better than him through the season, but most of the time not with a big gap between them. Anyway, just saw that the Avenir TT is really short, you could be right there then, hadn't really seen the actual length before.

Looking at those pre-race discussions, does Avenir deserve an own thread?

Maybe make a U23 race thread where we can discuss Avenir, the biggest talents, who are the favourites for the U23 WC etc?

That would be great.
EDIT: I'll make one with a bit of an Avenir introduction.

+1 Good idea. And deny Jesleyh from entering, or we will swim soon in overrated dutchies pools.

Nah, as said earlier, only 2, maybe 3 'good' Dutchies participate.
After the prologue, or otherwise when the mountains start(if Teunissen and Van der Lijke would be on a roll in the flat or hilly stages), I'll probably shut up
Oh, wait, a U23 thread you mean.
Well, actually, I've got some knowledge there, but allright, I'll stay away from it if you all want that

Especially since Kelderman can't participate

I knew, don't worry, I was just playing along
@Cio meh
It's a shame really, he was scheduled to ride Avenir in his last year for Rabo CT, but got injured. Olivier is entering his footsteps right now, I guess

If I may... It's regrettable that they're so overrated, when in fact they just train so hard that their potential is fulfilled or almost fulfilled at 24 or 25, when people who overrate them think they're just at ~95 % of their capabilities and will keep improving.
Really, not all riders have the same development pattern. |

Dare I say... Kelderman? No, no... I would bestow upon me the wrath of a fellow Dutchman!

Back on topic: the Tabriz Petrochemical Team strikes again
Poor Sky, they signed a rider who loses 9 minutes to two Iranians. The Poorseyedi guy was suspended untill June, then wins Qinghai and makes it even more ridiculous here

Oh, No, no, no, you don't!
Though Kelderman started cycling a little bit later than most others(he played soccer first, then went ice-skating), so he might have more space for development. I think. And Kelderman is still clearly developing hard, so no signs for that.
You know what, I just haven't read this.
And wow, nice 1-2 by Tabriz there.
@Aquarius I hate to say, but you do have a point there. Though it of course does not apply for every Dutch cyclist, it is for quite some Dutchmen

The UCI didn't send anyone to test at the race.

No, because according to 'Tard McQuaid, it's more important to develop cycling abroad, than to waste money in destruction of the sport.
When do we get an independent antidoping division to take care of that ? |
