Another one for MItchelton. Looks like they are in full control. Tibopino, Pozzo and Carapaz are very solid though. Glad Froome bleed time again today

The thing about a double attempt is that you actually need to win the first GT, Froomey. Another year w/o a Sky Giro win. Praise!

Another pretty lackluster stage excitement wise, though a few guys being shed from the fold.
I was watching some Colombian stream because it's the only one that would work with my slow ass internet connection, and the entire last 3 kms they kept freaking showing some montage of the finishing town or something, to the point that they even missed the freaking stage finish for it. No idea how a broadcaster can be that incompetent.
RIP Exxon Duke, David Veilleux, Double Feature, and Monster Energy

Froome break his teeth on his giro-tour double attempt right now. Contador has the most solid attempt in last few years definitely.
Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.

Haig versus LLS for most beastly long turns by a domestique - I'd give Haig the nod atm but to be continued

He'd follow the glorious path of his best mate Wiggins then lol Honestly, it would be a pretty shameful act to pull out of a GT when it's not even certain he can ride one in July. It'd be a strange attitude especially since he likes to be seen as a fighter. He doesn't put up much fight yet.

I think so too.
Also since when S.Yates is able to beat some of the best climbers? He was more of a rider for shorter hills mostly. But since he is usually an aggressive rider I like him getting stronger.
Shame Masnada couldn't finish off though.

Idk, he told that he is still waiting the 3rd week but I dont think he is on the top 5 favorites right now.
Also Aru lost more than 1 minute today.
I think this Giro is in the bag for Michelton Scott boys. |

Amen!
It's all coming together for the most exciting GT of the year. Climbers getting away from Dom Toumulin, but the distance still very much manageable for the dutch.
Great to see Pinot and Pozzovivo are having their best GT ever which only spices things further.

Doumoulin being a big giant AND a fatty (a whopping 69kg after all! ) means big watts needed compared to the Tom Thumb brigade.

Hope Pozzovivo can keep his form throughout, another classy ride by him. Despite all of Mitchelton's strength, still feels like Dumoulin has this race on auto-pilot.
Hope Mohoric gets another chance for a breakaway in the coming week's stages with some late descent's. Looks on good form staying with Pozzo till the last 4km after yesterdays big effort. |

Actually, it's totally explainable why Dumoulin loses seconds.
Twice (Etna and now) it has stayed all together until 2km from the line, pretty much what you get there is Purito like punches in the final 2km, which is pure explosiveness. So Yates wins, Pinot also wins some time. And Dumoulin loses seconds.
In the Giro last year Quintana blew the field apart on 7km in Blockhaus and on 5km in Oropa. Causing a different dynamic and allowing time for Dumoulin to 'TT' back and over the rest. Now there is no TT-ing back since the finish is already there.
Very interesting situation. Zoncolan will be the real test. It won't stay together long but the gradients are even more in advantage of the lightweight climbers. If Dumoulin can keep his loss limited there and not lose 1m+, it's still very much advantage Dumoulin.
However if the climbers, and especially Yates, can win 1 minute or more on Zoncolan I think Dumoulin is out of the equasion (for the win at least). |
