Purito might match him on the climbs, but I doubt he's going to gain the minutes he'll lose in the TT
On the other hand, as we have seen especially this year, Sky train tactics works only on French mountains (long constant % climbs), while Italian and Spanish climbs suit them less, so it may be a chance for riders embracing more aggresive tactics.

Wow, I know Sky are a bit like the dementors of cycling, but I think you're being way too pessimistic. Porte hasn't ever shown to be able to keep up with riders of Purito's level during three weeks, nor has he ever been remotely close. And you have to keep in mind that there are bonus seconds in the Giro, which coupled with the enormous amount of MTFs give Joaquim a great edge over Porte.
Latest 2014 Tour Route Rumors include: Stage 5 Cobbles around Ypres, Stage 4 Cobbles around Roubaix, Stage 7 Cobbles around Metz(?), 35+km TTT, 3 ITT's and a summit finish on the Izoard...
DO NOT BELIEVE MOST OF THEM! Only one i've seen repeated is Stage 5 Ypres with cobbles

Man that would be one Intense tour, almost a shame it isn't true.
Some interesting things from Wheelmen book. One of them was that "During the 2006 Tour, he offered a $20,000 bounty to any rider who could ensure that Floyd Landis—now racing for a rival team—would not win."
Well Periro tried!

Not that I want to start a discussion about stats in a videogame I don't even play, but who do you acknowledge as the best descender(s) nowadays ?
Nibali ? SSG ? Sagan ? Others who don't get to show it such as most sprinters or grupetto riders ?

How come you don't play Aquarius?
I don't play, well haven't for a very long time anyway...
I rate Hushovd very highly, that descent in the 2011 Tour was just epic

In no particular order :
- I don't have time. Simply. Wake up, read news, work, eat, work, sports, read news, watch a movie, go to bed. Where am I supposed to find time to play, let alone play PCM ? Give me 30 hours days and I might reconsider (I'd probably end up running/swimming/cycling 2 or 3 times a days though ).
- I've had it. I mean I really had it with the bugs that always come up with the game when it's released.
- Me and Cyanide... long story. We don't like each other any more.
- Ageing PC...
- Ageing me... (no, wait, I didn't mean it seriously).
I played CyM1, bought all the following CyM, then PCM, till 2007, which I barely played. Then I left Cyanide's official community, stopped buying their products, and playing their game (PCM 2007 was like the worst CyM/PCM ever in terms of bugs).

Necessity being the mother of all invention it would interesting to see some hard numbers on how fast some of the sprinters or grupetto riders are descending.
So all we need is a stage where they are struggling to make the time cut and compare the times with a conviently timed downhill attack on the exact same stage by the likes of Nibali, Sagan etc. Oh and for both ends of the race to be caught on camera at the key moments for timing purposes...
Guess I'm better off wishing for new in race gps tech being implemented.
Other than that Hushovd looks (looked?) great going downhill and has spent his fair share of time in the grupetto too. I've also heard rumblings that a peloton/team director poll a few years back picked him as the best descender but can't say I've ever seen any proof of that.
