I'm just waiting for Hesjedal to come out and say that he doped in the past as well. Looking at his former teams is honestly about all you need to see.

Not necessarily, look at Bassons or Moncoutié. However with Ryder being a former USPS rider some sort of statement would be good.

Its more likely than not, imo. But yeah, a statement would be nice.

Well you have to remember he wasn't exactly in the core then.

Jesus, you guys don't know????
I'm honestly shocked. Hesjedal has been named by about three trillion guys as THE guy who introduced blood vector doping to MTB. He's about as "too hot to touch" as anyone in the sport can be.
That's why at the end of 2006 when he approached the guys at Symmetrics they said they didn't want anything to do with him.
Tell you what, if you go into the mountain bike forum at cyclingnews, there's a topic where a few different different guys formerly involved with MTB talk about their experiences relating to the guy. It's a good read

I had no idea. The only thing I know about MTB is that the best Spaniard in there has a funny mustache.
I'll have a read for sure.

@isso: If you go to CN Forum, you may not come back due to some of the stupidity. So I'm happy for you just to report it. |

Another of my favourites subjects for a rant about doping : MTBers.
The percentage of MTB guys who've had or are having a career on the road and have the reputation of being among the worst dopeheads is incredible.
To make a comparison, if cycling was total non-sense (doping wise) before 1998, it's slowly getting cleaner. But MTB has had no serious evolution since then in its habits. |

Michael Barry's idea on how cycling must continue to grow as a clean sport.
Personally I am unsure. As a big follower of the sport, I enjoy small teams and like them putting up good results, but in a "north american style" league we probably wouldn't see that, and to me a part of the sport dies. You know, I see it in soccer (pardon me, Football) where everyone always complains about how its been commercialized. Would cycling be any different? We are already starting to see it in cycling.

But isso, he rides for Garmin. So he has to be clean. |

The comment above is getting my sarcasm-meter confused.
Meanwhile, I reckon you people should read the last entry on the inner ring, about the illusion of doping creating a level-playing field.
More or less I've already used all the arguments, but some people can write it in a better English than I.

I don't see cycling becoming like football any time soon. But you're right, I'd like to see cycling remaining what it is instead of becoming too commercialized. |

He has to be fired due to his doping ban. Or is there something else?

It's the ban.
“We commend the rider for his open cooperation with USADA and contribution to cleaning up the sport of cycling,” the team said in a statement. “However, in the light of the disclosures made by Mr. Leipheimer in his public statement on 10th of October the team has decided to terminate the contract.
“This decision has the full support of the team owner, the board represented by Mr. Bessel Kok and team manager Mr. Patrick Lefevere.”
My guess though is that they aren't exactly sad about losing him. I'm willing to bet they feel they've overpaid him, especially as last year proved his isn't really a GT threat anymore.

Surely Levi will retire now, who'd want to hire him now?
Plus that'll free up some money for OPQS now surely, which'd no doubt help the Cavendish deal right? |

He was a bit unlucky though, losing a podium in P-N due to a crash and getting hit by a car didn't help for his Tour prep. But yep, I could see his contract being a bit too high for someone like him.

It will free up some dough, definitely.
I could very well see Levi getting a ride domestically, or possibly even with a team such as UHC, where he'd have a chance to start a couple of major European races. But I wouldn't be surprised at all if he retired. |
