5th and final stage, 152km from Mersch (funny, went there on holiday when I was a kid!) to Luxembourg. 2 small hills, lots of up and downs, and 6 laps on a circuit in Luxembourg.
img855.imageshack.us/img855/3699/40etappe5.jpg

Laurent Didier chose this day to show himself for his home crowd, and of course he got approval from the other Monster's. He got in the BOTD with Roy Curvers (Skil), Juan Antonio Flecha (Sky), Kevin Hulsmans (Doncker's Koffie), Dieter Cappelle (Veranda's Willems) and Frédéric Guesdon (FDJ). They got a maximum lead of 8 minutes.
KOTM 1: 1. Didier, 2. Curvers, 3. Flecha.
KOTM 2: 1. Didier, 2. Flecha, 3. Curvers.
img833.imageshack.us/img833/1066/41kotm.jpg

11km to go and the lead to the peloton is 3'48. Didier has tried to get away with 18km to go, but did not get away. Now Juan Antonio Flecha easily rides away from his fellow breakaways. No one can follow him!
img717.imageshack.us/img717/2863/42flecha.jpg

Laurent Didider realizes he isn't strong enough to win the stage. With 4km to go, Flecha has a lead of 1'01, and Didier attacks to secure a second place. He thinks he won't make it on the podium when it comes up to the sprint, so this is the only way.
img839.imageshack.us/img839/7678/43didier.jpg

Back in the peloton, Lieuwe Westra tries to surprise Zabriskie and Duque (GC's number 1 & 2) with an ultimate attack 3.5km from the finish. He even gets a gap of 15 seconds, will it be enough for the GC win? He needs ten seconds!
img15.imageshack.us/img15/6272/44westra.jpg

The Spanish Sky-cyclist Flecha takes his first win of the season. Great job, he was surely the strongest in the BOTD!
img560.imageshack.us/img560/8319/45finish.jpg

Didier's plan worked pretty well. Although Roy Curvers passed him, he managed to stay in 2nd place, '48 behind Flecha. A great podium for him in his home race!
img714.imageshack.us/img714/9854/463ed.jpg

Lieuwe Westra stayed in front of the peloton (at 3'48), but unfortunately without a time gap (and the jury was right this time!).

Word from the DS: We can look back to a sucesfull Tour de Luxembourg. Although we didn't get a stage win, we were close two times with 3rd places from Westra in the prologue and Didier in the final stage. Westra did great with the 3rd place in the GC, Pim Ligthart got 8th and we were with 5 man in the top 20. Great job from these young riders!

Yeah, the names are bold! Now the next question, does someone know how I can give the names an other colour, in stead of being bold??

The Critérium du Dauphiné is the most important preparation race for the Tour de France, together with the Tour de Suisse. The Dauphiné, formerly known as the Dauphiné Liberé, is the second biggest stage race in France and is held near the Alps. There are 8 stages and all the present Tour de France-contendors look forward to the 4th stage, an individual Time Trial on the same parcours the riders have to ride in the TdF.

Our team:
img508.imageshack.us/img508/4546/ploeg.jpg

Favourites:
*** Jakob Fuglsang (Leopard), Joaquim Rodriguez (Katusha), Andy Schleck (Monster Energy)
** Geraint Thomas (Sky), Ryder Hesjedal (Garmin), Alexandre Vinokourov (Astana)
* Thomas Voeckler (Europcar), Tejay van Garderen (HTC), Tony Martin (HTC)

Present sprinters:
*** Oscar Freire (Rabobank), André Greipel (Omega Pharma - Lotto), Matthew Goss (HTC)
** Samuel Dumoulin (Cofidis), Edvald Boasson Hagen (Sky), JJ Haedo (Saxo Bank)
* Giacomo Nizzolo (Liquigas), Marcel Kittel (Monster Energy), Lloyd Mondory (AG2R)

As you can see, the startlist isn't that strong. No Alberto Contador, no Frank Schleck, no Samuel Sanchez, no Cadel Evans. Probably they all chose the Tour de Suisse this year to prepare themselves for the Tour de France.

Our goals:
- Stage win.
- Top 5 in the GC (Andy Schleck is in a pretty bad shape in the beginning of this Dauphiné, so we don't aim for a GC win. But who knows what happens??), which is also a sponosr goal!

The Critérium du Dauphiné kicks off with a 5.4km (almost flat) prologue in the streets of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne.
img23.imageshack.us/img23/4998/etappe1a.jpg
img155.imageshack.us/img155/4218/profiel1.jpg

First the 2 best Monster Energy - riders. Sebastien Rosseler finishes the day in 23rd place, losing '27.
img10.imageshack.us/img10/6176/2rosseler.jpg

Marc de Maar is the best from our team: 7'29, losing '26 in 19th place.
img215.imageshack.us/img215/1816/3demaar.jpg

The 4th place goes to the Swedish ITT-champion Gustav Erik Larsson (Saxo Bank - Sungard): 7'21, losing '18.
img718.imageshack.us/img718/1151/4larsson.jpg

Edvald Boasson Hagen is the best Scandinavian rider, 4 seconds faster than Larsson, 3rd place.
img8.imageshack.us/img8/5715/5ebh.jpg

Good old Alexandre Vinokourov is determined to ride a good Dauphiné. His start is excellent, 2nd place at '12.
img87.imageshack.us/img87/5688/7vino.jpg

And who's gonna take the win? German Tony Martin of course. The HTC-rider crushes the times of the others, finishing in 7'03. Yes, he is 12 seconds faster in 5.4km!
img18.imageshack.us/img18/6108/6martin.jpg

The last rider to start is Andy Schleck. I feel a little embarassed to tell his time, but I don't have secrets: 105th place in 7'40..... '37 seconds in 5.4km. He needs to work on that before the Tour de France!

Here you go. Barely improvement since the beginning of the season, only 1 up in Acceleration.

I have 3 trainers now, 2 of them national and since last week 1 legendary. I'll improve that gradually, since I don't wanna get into a money problem by having to pay too much salary to the staff.

Stage 2 of the Dauphiné from Albertville to Saint-Pierre-de Chartreuse.
img600.imageshack.us/img600/5584/etappe2.jpg

144km with 3 KOTM-sprints, including a mountain top finish, so a tough stage to start with after the prologue.
- Côte de Saint-André - 0.8 km climb to 6.9 % - Category 4
- Côte de Montagnole - 3.2 km climb to 6.1 % - Category 3
- Côte de la Bauche - 2.9 km climb to 4.6 % - Category 4
- Montée de Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse - 7.4 km climb to 4.8 % - Category 2
img40.imageshack.us/img40/7826/profiel2gz.jpg

Somehow, it's almost impossible to get away. Mark de Maar as set his eyes on this stage, he wants to collect some KOTM-points. He slips away before the first climb of the day, the Côte de Saint-André and gets the points. Alessandro Vanotti (Liquigas) and Rafal Majka (Saxo Bank) follow him as 2nd and 3rd. The peloton is 1'11 back.
img94.imageshack.us/img94/6731/1kotm1.jpg

HTC does the pace in the peloton and the 3 escapee get caught. With 80km to go, we see the GC-leader Tony Martin up front doing the pace. Strange tactic...
img198.imageshack.us/img198/6836/2martin.jpg

2nd climb, the Côte de Montagnole, and again De Maar collects the most points. The peloton follows him and Andy Schleck gets 2nd before Sergio Pardilla (Movistar).
img707.imageshack.us/img707/2397/3kotm2.jpg

The same happens at the 3rd climb of the day, the Côte de la Bauche. De Maar reaches the summit as first, closely followed by the peloton (Pavel Brutt (Katusha) and Bert Grabsch (HTC) as 2nd and 3rd). Of course De Maar lets himself fall back in the peloton, and they all prepare for the last climb.
img31.imageshack.us/img31/4249/4kotm3.jpg

10km to go and the Astana-team makes the pace in the peloton. Still, no escapes!! Shock
img33.imageshack.us/img33/3825/510km.jpg

Then the last climb of the day, the Montée de Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse. 7.4km with an average gradient of 4.8%. Not that difficult, but it's an irregular climb, so steep parts are followed by almost flat parts.
img28.imageshack.us/img28/9577/laatstekm2.jpg

Finally, with 7km to go, we see the first real attack of the day. It's Vacansoleil's Matteo Carrara who tries it. With 5km to go, he has a '37 gap to the chasing group. Carrara is almost thriough the tunnel, whereas the group enters it.
img855.imageshack.us/img855/5328/65km.jpg

Coming out of the tunnel, we see a fierce attack of Alexandre Vinokourov. Astana didn't do their hard work for nothing! Ryder Hesjedal (Garmin) tries to follow. Andy Schleck couldn't react to the attack and stays in the group.
img29.imageshack.us/img29/5688/7vino.jpg

With 3km to go, Vino has catched Carrara, and immediately passed him. 2500metres to go, and the 2 have a '22 gap to Hesjedal and '44 to Przemyslaw Niemiec (Lampre), Tony Martin (HTC) and Andy Schleck, who followed the counterattack of Martin.
img171.imageshack.us/img171/9972/82500m.jpg

Vinokourov has shaken off the Italian in the last kilometre. The chasing group is '52 back, Hesjedal and Niemiec attack out of it again.
img405.imageshack.us/img405/1791/9laatstekm.jpg

A great ride by the Kazach after a non-succesful Giro D'Italia. Hi s first win of the season. Carrara does a great job, finishing in 2nd. Niemiec gets the 3rd, in front of Hesjedal, with '46 back.
img64.imageshack.us/img64/7421/10finish.jpg

Daniel Moreno wins the sprint of the chasing group at '59. Martin gets 6th and Andy Schleck gets a good 7th place.

Word from the DS: First of all, all credits to Marc de Maar, who did an excellent job in winning 3 KOTM-sprints and finishing in the main group today! Andy Schleck did also a great job, finishing in 7th. When he continues his development of his form, I can see him going for the win in the last 2 mountain stages!

Good finish but i think 1´24" is a little too much now.....i mean this because front riders in GC are all strong too, this will make hard to gain some time...but i wish you good luck and hope to see Andy doing good there.

3rd stage, from Voiron to Lyon, 179km long.

IRL 4 category 4 climbs, in the game, only the last one is categorized.

Andy Schleck surprises his opponents in the first Intermediate sprint. He attacks a few km before, and only gets outsprinted by Dutch Jos van Emden (Lloyd Mondory in 3rd). So 4 bonus seconds for Andy!
img546.imageshack.us/img546/9467/1is.jpg

The BOTD crosses the line of the 2nd Intermediate sprint in the following order: L. Mondory (AG2R), J. van Emden (Rabo), J. Fauchard (Cofidis), E. Vivani (Liquigas), M. Boaro (Saxo Bank), D. Righi (Lampre), A. Ongarato (Vacansoleil) and M. Kohler (BMC). The gap to the peloton is 6'25.
img23.imageshack.us/img23/183/2isi.jpg

Marc de Maar crashes with 70km to go. Luckily, he gets back in the peloton without injuries.
img200.imageshack.us/img200/1816/3demaar.jpg

With 15km to go, Sky sets the pace. Edvald Boasson Hagen must go for the win on the uphill finish! The BOTD is 1 minute in front, but gets caught a few km later.
img233.imageshack.us/img233/1105/415km.jpg

At the foot of the last climb, with 3km to go, Sky and Monster have formed their trains. Is Marcel Kittel strong enough to go for the win?
img4.imageshack.us/img4/2617/53km.jpg

In the last 1.5km, 70 height metres have to be conquered. Not that difficult, but the rider with the best combination of sprinter and puncheur will win this.
img710.imageshack.us/img710/2995/laatstekm3.jpg

One km to go, and that rider with the best puncheur-sprinter combination must be Edvald Boasson Hagen. Being led by Geraint Thomas, he now goes for the win. Only HTC's Matthew Goss can follow him. Kittel drops back, Thomas de Gendt still has a shot for a top 10.
img834.imageshack.us/img834/4488/61kmc.jpg

What a dominant sprint for the Norwegian! Only Matthew Goss can follow him, but no one could prevent EBH from winning for the 6th time this year (1x Tirreno, 2x Romandie, 2x California). Alexandre Vinokourov sprints to 3rd place, Thomas de Gendt takes 9th place.

U25 & Teams: no changes.

Word from the DS: a stage everybody will forget, except EBH. The uphill finish was to difficult for Kittel, what is a goo learning point for the Tour (Mont des Alouettes, Mur de Bretagne, Lisieux).

The Dauphinés 4th stage is a 42.5km ITT with start and finish in Grenoble. It's hilly, with 2 climbs and about 500 height metres. This ITT is an exact copy of the final ITT in the Tour de France, so it's a good preparation!

img685.imageshack.us/img685/9382/etappe4.jpg
img820.imageshack.us/img820/3936/profiel4.jpg

Rabobank's Rick Flens has set the best time, when Sebastien Rosseler breaks it: 1h03'02.
img828.imageshack.us/img828/2513/1rosseler.jpg

He can't enjoy it for a long time, while HTC's Alex Rasmussen is '40 faster in 1h02'22.
img690.imageshack.us/img690/8956/2rasmussen.jpg

Rasmussen has to wait a long time for someone to break his time. Saxo Bank's Gustav Larsson is the one to do it: 1h01'19. Yes, 1'03 faster!
img534.imageshack.us/img534/6957/3larsson.jpg

Then an other rider from the Nordic countries sets a new best time. Who else then Sky's Edvald Boasson Hagen is '17 faster in 1h01'02.
img683.imageshack.us/img683/7462/4ebh.jpg

Thomas de Gendt becomes the best placed rider from the Monster Energy - Ford team in 1h02'31, which is the 10th time overall.
img651.imageshack.us/img651/5218/5degendt.jpg

ANdy Schleck really uses this ITT as a testcase for the TdF. His fitness is 78 at the moment, so we don't know what to expect. He's very fast in the first part of the race, but after the 2nd climb he looses a lot of time. Eventually, he finishes in 14th place in 1h02'46.
img708.imageshack.us/img708/5177/6schleck.jpg

The top 5 of the GC:
Przemyslaw Niemiec loses 3'06, 36th in total.
img155.imageshack.us/img155/7342/7niemiec.jpg

Ryder Hesjedal rides a great ITT. He finishes in 1h02'06, 5th place!
img832.imageshack.us/img832/3593/8hesjedal.jpg

Tomy Martin is the big favourite to win this ITT. He won the prologue a few days eralier and het sets the best time in the 2 split time recordings. His lead only gets bigger and the German rider takes the win: 1h00'08!
img98.imageshack.us/img98/9426/9martin.jpg

Matteo Carrara is GC's number 2, but a bad ITT-rider. 55th place at 3'25.
img13.imageshack.us/img13/3658/10carrara.jpg

The last rider to start is of course the guy in the yellow jersey. ALexandre Vinokourov performs very well. He needs 1h00'55 to stay in the lead, but barely misses it: 1h01'03, 3rd place.
img41.imageshack.us/img41/2276/11vino.jpg

Split time 1: 1. Martin 22'50, 2. EBH + '16, 3. Vino + '17, 5. Schleck +'27.
Split time 2: 1. Martin 41'15, 2. Vino 41'41, 3. EBH 41'50, 4. Schleck 41'51.

Today's winner and new GC-leader:
img829.imageshack.us/img829/151/15martin.jpg

Word from the DS: De Gendt and Schleck rode a decent ITT. It's strange to see that all the guys that rode with dot 60, were faster in the first 2 sectors than the guys that rode with 65..... And in the last sector, with a lot of downhill riding in it, all the coloured bars got empty. So it's still difficult how to race this ITT in the Tour de France. Schleck did it all the way with 60, and De Gendt with 65 and he could accelerate in the end.

That dauphiné is going to be difficult. Keep up the work my friend!

It's going to be interesting in the mountains Wink I think Andy isn't in top form yet but it would be nice to see him winning a stage Wink

Stage 5 from La MOtte-Servolex to Macon, 173.5km over almost flat terrain with 2 4th-category climbs (and not the Col du Chat as irl).

First Intermediate sprint: Dominique Rollin (FDJ) wins it in front of Martin Mortensen (Leopard) and Manuele Boaro (Saxo Bank).
img339.imageshack.us/img339/8547/1is1.jpg

Before the first KOTM-sprint, Lampre's Francesco Gavazzi ecapes. He gets the most pints. Marc de Maar climbs with a high pace and finishes 2nd, followed by Santo Anza (Vacansoleil).
img268.imageshack.us/img268/6938/2kotm1.jpg

When Gavazzi is catched, the peloton rides to the 2nd Intermediate sprint. Andy Schleck surprises the sprinter and the GC-contendors again. He wins the sprint by a great jump 4km bfore it. So 6 bonus seconds! JJ Haedo (Saxo Bank). gets 2nd, Marcello Pavarin (Vacansoleil) 3rd.
img716.imageshack.us/img716/3839/3is2.jpg

The peloton is still together when they start the 2nd climb of the day. Marc de Maar is the first n the summit, thereby collecting the most points, so he can wear the polkadot jersey tomorrow! Fabian Wegmann (Leopard) is 2nd, Benoit Vaugrenard (FDJ) 3rd.
img339.imageshack.us/img339/7761/4kotm2.jpg

With 30km to go, 2 riders finally slip away: Joaquim Rodriguez (Katusha) and Amael Moinard (BMC) get 1'30 but don't stand a chance.
img15.imageshack.us/img15/5540/518km.jpg

1km to go, and it looks like it's gonna be a battle between Sky and Omega Pharma - Lotto. Our sprinter, Marcel Kittel, simply hasn't got the legs to compete in the sprint.
img717.imageshack.us/img717/6709/61km.jpg

2nd win for Edvald Boasson Hagen. He finishes the great work from his teammates and beats André Greipel and Matthew Goss.

U25 & Teams: no changes.

Word from the DS. Good job by De Maar (taking the lead in the KOTM-rankings) and Schleck (winning 6 seconds). Bad job by our sprinters. Somehow, we can't figure out how to set up a good train or chance tactics that our sprinter follows an other sprinter's wheel....

Stage 6 and we enter the mountains. The stage starts in Parc des Oiseaux and finishes 210km later in Les Gets.
img192.imageshack.us/img192/3771/etappe6.jpg

3 2nd categorized climbs have to be taken, the Côte de Corlier - 6.4 km climb to 5.3 %, the Côte du Mont des Princes - 5.5 km climb to 7 % and finally the mountain top finish on Montée des Gets - 10.7 km climb to 4.7 %.
img820.imageshack.us/img820/8162/profiel6g.jpg

The start of the stage should suit Marc de Maar in his goal to collect KOTM-points. Our team controls the race, so Marc is the first on the summit of the Côte de Corlier, followed by Joaquim Rodriguez (Katusha) and Vasil Kiryienka (Movistar).
img695.imageshack.us/img695/6731/1kotm1.jpg

After that, a 5-man breakaway is formed, consisting of Simon Zahner (BMC), Alessandro Vanotti (Liquigas), Sébastien Minard (AG2R), Tony Gallopin (Cofidis) and a couples of kilometres later Oscar Freire (Rabobank). They get a maximum advantage of 5'30.
- Intermediate sprint 1: 1. Zahner, 2. Vanotti, 3. Minard (+1'53).
- KOTM 2: 1. Vanotti, 2. Zahner, 3. Minard (+ 5'29).
- Intermediate sprint 2: 1. Minard, 2. Zahner, 3. Freire (+ 3'54).
img11.imageshack.us/img11/5144/2is1.jpg

The only obstacle left to the finish is the Monté des Gets, 10.7km at average 4.7%.
img717.imageshack.us/img717/9527/laatstekm6.jpg

Sébastien Minard is the last of the riders from the BOTD who gets caught. Still 7km left.
img197.imageshack.us/img197/8229/37km.jpg

Everybody expected an attack of Alexandre Vinokourov, and there is an attack of Vino! With 6km to go, he launches his attack to reclaim the yellow jersey.
img571.imageshack.us/img571/774/4vino.jpg

Nobody reacts. The Montée des Gets is a climb you can ride up by using your power (Dutch: op de macht, don't know the English, can someone tell?), and that suits Tony Martin pretty well. He keeps the gap to the Kazach close, accompanied by Ryder Hesjedal and Andy Schleck. With 2km to go, Vino lead by '20.
img10.imageshack.us/img10/6779/52km.jpg

When Andy sees the flamme rouge, he decides to attack. Martin can follow, but cannot pass the Luxembourg rider. The gap to Vino is only '12!
img826.imageshack.us/img826/6709/61km.jpg

Vinokourov's legs are waisted and with 300 metres to go, Schleck and Martin pass him. Andy still has a small lead to the German, can he take his first win of the year?
img571.imageshack.us/img571/332/7300m.jpg

Yes he can! A great win by Andy, beating Tony Martin in the sprint! WHat a way to claim the first victory of the season! Vino takes 3rd, Hesjedal 4th and the rest is '22 back.

Results: We love this one!

Word from the DS: What a great win by Andy, never thought that this early on the way to the Tour de France, he could get a win. Okay, the best climbers aren't here, but who says they would have beat him? Now take a good night rest, for tmorrow's stage over the Col du Grand Cucheron and the finish on the Collet D'Allevard
