Stage 14
Today´s 178km long stage is hilly and is finishing at San Luca, only 2km long, but very steep climb. Our main goal is maintain our lead.
Passo della Collina, first summit and the highest point today. 5 men in break, Giordani takes maximum points.
75km to go, Txurruka, Moreno, Bisolti, Serpa and Goubert are launching attack.
And they join original breakaway riders in Valico di Tole climb.
10km before line, it´s Dani Moreno who stays alone in front. Peloton is getting closer though. The final climb will divide winners from losers.
Bruseghin attack on flat part just before final climb!
LL Sanchez, Anton, Garzelli and Gilbert are following!
Moreno is caught by attackers, looks like Pellizotti and co. missed this move!
Stefano is unstopable, he is moving forward and heading to 2nd win this year!
YES, he wins and extends his overall lead, Pellizotti is more than 2' down now!

Stage 15
Second hilly stage in a row includes more hills, but flat finish. We´ll try to save as much strenght for tomorrow (queen stage finishing at Monte Petrano) as possible.
BOTD. They couldn´t manage to built reasonable gap over the peloton though.
Ivan Basso attacks in last climb less then 30km before line!
And he wins last mountain sprint. Only 2 men are able to accept his murderous pace - Soler and Anton.
And here are pursuers. LL Sanchez, who looks better and better each day, right behind him Barredo with Caruso, next is Bruseghin and then group with Garzelli and Pellizotti. Gaps are quite big, this ain´t what we we want to see.
Sanchez joins leading group.
Cunego is not happy with situation and attacks chasers group!
It´s the first time we can see Garzelli pushing hard on flat here.
Only Pellizotti and Ivanov can keep with Maglia rosa. They are going over Barredo, Caruso and Bruseghin. 3km to go and this group is 1'20" behind leaders.
Last km for leading group, LL Sanchez opens the sprint...
...and takes win ahead of Basso and Anton!
Stefano finishes as 7th in same time as 6th Pellizotti. But we can´t be satisfied, Anton and Basso took some time in GC.

Stage 16
Queen stage of Giro is here! We will climb on three climbs of highest category, Monte Nerone (15,4km; 7,2%), Monte Catria (11,5km; 7,5%) and finally Monte Petrano (12,2km; 7,8%). I expect hard battle, this is one of last chances for Pellizotti and co. to make any troubles to Garzelli.
Gibo Simoni joined BOTD! He definitely wants back Maglia verde and maybe even more?
In the climb of Monte Nerone, Gibo is new virtual leader atm, P. is 15' behind!
Simoni is already alone again in front on summit, he must survive without any help two more climbs and almost 90km if he want to achieve brilliant win today.
Franco Pellizotti attacks 5km before peak of Monte Catria!
Simoni at the summit of Monte Catria with comfortable lead.
Pellizotti is 9' behind, Group with other contenders including Maglia rosa is next 1'20 back.
Ivan Basso attacks right after summit! It could be really dangerous!
Basso joins Pellizotti in downhill...
...and surprisingly Barredo. Luckily Garzelli is not far behind, gap is about 50'.
Monte Petrano, last 10km for Gibo! He knows he´ll win if nothing unexpected happen!
Liquigas duo and Barredo are almost caught at the foot of final climb.
Garzelli is sitting comfortably deeply in group, everything seems to be allright.
5km for Gibo! He still leads by 7'!
It´s time for Maglia rosa! Stefano is moving forward and prepares for crushing move!
Gilberto Simoti made it, he wins queen stage of Giro and takes back Maglia verde! Great day for Italian veteran!
Stefano Garzelli attacks 2km before line! No one can respond!
Garzelli finishes 2nd, 5' behind Simoni, how much time he´ll gain against main rivals?
Basso finishes 3rd ahead of Masciarelli and Pellizotti almost 50" later! Great! Stefano is now leading with more then 3'!!!

JUST EPIC, especially for Gibo. It seems, that two italian veterans are showing to young guns, that they have some presents left for them. |
