I take some heart that Quintana came through Saldarriaga's system at Colombia es Pasión (or 4-72 as it is now) which had its own bio-passport and was as such committed to combatting the doping culture in Colombia.
That's not to say he's clean. But as much as his performances are extraordinarily good, at least he's shown exceptional talent from a young age, unlike the rider 5 minutes in front of him on GC. |

It would become suspicous if Quintana started beating TT-specialists on flat TT's. |

Somebody unearthed this fantastic quote by Brailsford about hanging on to team cars:
If you’re a cheat, you're a cheat, you're not half a cheat. You wouldn't say, 'I'll cheat here but I'm not going to cheat over there; I'll cheat on a Monday but not on a Tuesday.
If I'm a liar and a cheat and if my ethics and morals are all about cheating, if that's what we're doing here, lying to the world and cheating, then surely I'll be doing it in other places in my life. Not just parts.
So, about that illegal feed and how it was totally Porte that took it, not Froome...

I also thought I should add some things from Sky's the Limit by Richard Moore, some favourite quotes if you will:
"The perception of cycling is changing,' says Brailsford. We need to be agents of change. Our job is to prove beyond doubt that it can be done clean" p. 64
When talking about how they recruited the first squad he says "We also look at the history of the guy, his progression over a number of years. All the best riders, the clean ones, you see a steady progression; you can graph it. The ones whose performances go up in a spike usually test positive. There are no secrets. It's basic stuff; intelligence gathering."p. 74 Comic gold.
All this plus the general sense of pointing out how different they are, and the brittish nationalism, makes for quite a funny reading. |

I find them interesting.

The crux of the issues I have with the froome doping or not is that it doesn't add either way. If he is clean his progression is exceptional, but if he is doing it through drugs then how did drugs make an ordinary rider into one of the best in the world when EPO etc only gave riders ~10% boost and current theories are that it would be microdosing he is doing so a much smaller increase. I may well be wrong about it, anyone with more knowledge have an explanation? |

Besides that, the big question mark for me, is why on Earth did Sky pick Froome around August 2011, to include him on an incredibly expensive dope program, when they thought he had one of the worst potentials among their riders. |

They needed a young Brit. Obvious choices would have been Thomas or Kennaugh but they were focusing on London 2012 track

That's a good point aquarius, and if there is a doping programme Sky would have known that it would be suspicious for him to be so good. It would have been less suspicious if they had chosen Thomas or Kennaugh. It is this that makes me think Sky are clean and if Froome is doping then it is independently (that and being British so wanting to believe Sky) It is all a bit weird |

Didn't Thomas say he wants to become a GC contender?

but if froome is on a doping programme it would have started at somepoint in 2011 pre vuelta, whilst both kennaugh and thomas were road focused but I suppose they may well have known they wanted to do the olympics by then. But still it is only the route choice that made Froome leader over Wiggo, which wasn;t annouced for a long time after 2011! If the 100th tour had a 100km ITT on Stage 20 then Wiggo would have been leader still. |
