Agree mostly, but Rodriguez and Porte so high? Hmm don't think so, cause Rodri will have a free role and will go for stagewins and all. Porte is helper for Froomebot. |

Well, if I were to place money on Rodirguez that high, i wouldnt. I guess im just a huge fan of Rodriguez and hope he somehow targets the GC after a good first week and since I didnt see anyone pick him for the top-10, why not? :p
Porte on the other hand definetely has gotten the shape to finish 8th, it depends on him having a bad day as last year. If he doesnt, I could definetely see him up there |

Could be, I personally think he will be sure to lose time in the cobble stage (on purpose) to get in breakaways later on, but perhaps he wants to stay in the GC as long as possible.
Porte is always a good bet for top 10 but never really consistent, we'll see what happens. I think 10-15 in the GC, but 8th is possible ofcourse. |

Thats what i fear as well and what really well could happen, but if he choses otherwise and somehow get through without big losses and does well in the Vosgues, I would be happy to see him target a top-10. It's unlikely tho, but go Purito! |

I hope Purito shows up at one or two stages and maybe gets a stage win but focuses on his goal on getting race kilometers so that he eventually ends up winning Vuelta. There's no value in getting a Top 10 for a rider like him.

Good point, a rider like him only wants to ride GC if he feels like he can win it. |

I didnt get to touch upon the Sky-squad, because holy crap, I expected a lot stronger team from them. I guess they prioritized the flat/cobbles over the mountains. I definetely think Nieve will be big for them, but out of Lopez, Vasil and Thomas, I dont see any top-30 climber potential. I really expected them to pick Kennaugh (especially since Henao crashed), but I guess he got a very bad cold, alltho Im pretty sure he would be if they really wanted him. Its especially odd since his performance last year where he performed fantastically. Seems weird. Saxo can definetely take advantage of this on the stage to Risoul (14th) or Pla d'Adet (17th) if Contador feels better than last year. ALOT weaker Sky-squad than I expected, which I guess afterall is good for the race
A few questions.
Why do you see Purito as a candidate to the 5th spot? We haven't seen any indication that he will be peak in the Tour. Was it the Dauphine or Tour de Suisse where he got dropped really early? I dont see him going in top 5 or top 7.
Why is there no JvB? You are betting that he will crash like always? Lol
If he manages to stay on the bike he will definitely be a contender for the top 5.
Talansky hasn't impressed me in the GTs yet. When I ham see him he has lacked consistency which a GT requires. Therefore I really can't see him doing a top 8....He drove well in Dauphine, no doubt. But being a good short stage race rider doesn't mean he will be able to last in the GTs. The same have we seen with Costa.....
Those 2 have a lot to prove before they are top 5 GT contenders in my book.
Present:
Tinkoff-Saxo - AG2R - Colombian riders
Past:
Francisco Mancebo - Illes balears - Carlos Sastre - Kelme - Robbie McEwen

He has never done a GT with full leadership and support. Still got a top 10.
He's barely 25. you have to understand that riders have to progress at some point. At 24 he got an expected result for his age. Even if he hasn't done it yet by that logic he shouldn't do it again and every year going forward.

Talansky has been fantastic last year. Actually, he has been so good, that I have been fairly disappointed this year by his results until he made a home-run with the Dauphine. Now I'm all hype.

My hopes are that both Froome and Contador crash out or lose huge chunks of time on stage 5 and then the top 5 is (in no order):
-Costa
-Valverde
-Mollema
-Nibali
-Van den Broeck

Uh, if Froome and Contador crash out, it will be between Valv and Nibali. If Valv and Nibali crash out, it's between Mollema and VdB. If they crash out, it's between Costa and World Jersey Curse 2.0.
Best Tour version is for me: Bertie kicking everybody's ass, Purito taking KoM jersey and Rolland making many, many energy-wasting attacks (meaning, living up the race and taking at least a stage win).
Also Voigt taking combative rider of le Tour award would be sooo sweet.
@StevenGreen: Yes, it is possible of course, but I doubt it.

i think sky made the better team selection. froome will have much more support in the cobble stage, which could give him the advantage of up to 2 minutes or something like that |

As I said earlier, its mostly a fanboy pick. Just want him to do good. That could also mean a stage win, but I hope he goes for the GC somehow (either he is feeling good or getting rewarded some time in the Vosges or Alps, what do I know).
Yes, else I would see him as a top-5 contender.
About Talansky, I just have very high hopes for him. I think it would be natural progression after last year's Tour and the Dauphine this year. |
