Schedule For 2nd Half of 2014
So we've made it to the Giro d'Italia! But before we start the race I am here in Ireland with Jonathon Vaughters discussing my schedule for the rest of the season! Here it is!
| Criterium du Dauphine | UWT | 6/12/2014 | | Tour de Pologne | UWT | 7/27/2014 | | GP Ouest France - Plouay | UWT | 9/1/2014 | | Grand Prix Cycliste de Quebec | UWT | 9/13/2014 | | Grand Prix Cycliste de Montreal | UWT | 9/15/2014 | | GP Industria & Commercio di Prato | 1.1 | 9/22/2014 | | Sparkassen Munsterland Giro | 1.1 | 10/3/2014 | | Giro di Lombardia | UWT | 10/6/2014 | | Tour of Beijing | UWT | 10/11/2014 |
So I head to Dauphine after the Giro, just to help Andrew. We hope he can podium there like Ryder in Romandie.
Next is Pologne. I'll be in horrible shape but I hope to do something in the race that jump started my career. Maybe a stage. It's a long way off to be deciding the little things!
After that I start the fall classics campaign in France and then Canada, riding a couple of CT classics and hoping to build to my last form peak.
That last peak is Giro di Lombardia, or Il Lombardia, whatever you fancy. After the Giro, winning this is my biggest goal. We'll see how that goes.
Then I wrap up the season in China, and then it's already time for the offseason!
Speaking of form, I'm not sure it's going too well. I stayed on the exact course my trainers told me too and I've taken part in the exact same races, but somehow my estimated fatigue has grown dramatically in their assessment. To combat this I've changed up my schedule just a little in order to hopefully not crash and burn in the Giro.
I don't know if my recovery just hasn't been going as well as hoped but the difference is astonishing. Anyway, here's the chart.
Anyway, there's a lot I haven't blogged about this year when I'm not in races, so my next act of business will be showing the rankings and results of races I was not in thus far! A lot of things to do before the start of the Tour of Italy! See you then!
RIP Exxon Duke, David Veilleux, Double Feature, and Monster Energy

He most likely is, but as the team is not decided yet he can't confirm.

No, no he doesn't.
I was ready for my mid season review, but unfortunately I forgot to upload the photos to Photobucket and I don't have access to my computer right now (using another), so that will come Monday!

So far you've only been following me, so I just want to give you a quick review of what else has happened this season!
First lets start with the other WT stage races this year.
Paris Nice
Vuelta a Pais Vasco
Katusha wins both. Especially impressive is Moreno. Not usually a stage race winner.
Milan - Sanremo
Surprising win by Boonen in MSR. In fact the whole results list looks like a cobbles race. I guess it comes with the stamina.
Ronde van Vlaanderen
Boonen gets his second monument of the year. Cancellara will have to settle for second.
Paris - Roubaix
But Spartacus gets his revenge in Roubaix. We had Langeveld and Vansummeren manager 9th and 10th with Nuyens suffering from injury.
On to the rankings!
UCI Individual Ranking
At the top! Can't believe it. Now we have to defend that!
CQ Individual Ranking
Hell yeah!
Victories by Rider
Kittel and Lagutin because of all those, you know, sh*t small races. :P
UCI Team Ranking
No surprise that Quickstep has the advantage here with their 50 or so cobbled riders. But we're right behind!
Victories by Team
Not exactly the best here but in our defense we are more of field of quality guy instead of one huge leader.
Well that's it! I only gave monuments and accidentally left of the CQ team, but it's no biggy in my opinion. I have a Giro to get to!

Giro d'Italia - Week 1 Preview
We start off the Giro in Belfast with a TT. unfortunately I don't think I'll be winning in my home country, as stage 2 and 3 are flat. As we enter into Italy we get 1 more flat stage before a mountain top finish of stage 5 and another on stage 6, which an uphill sprint finishing out the first week.
I am the leader here! I've never led a grand tour before, and I look forward to the challenges, specifically with my recovery. my allergies have long been a problem as well as sickness which tend to weaken me in the 3rd week I hope to snap that here.
The team is still strong though. We have 2 good climbers to help me and a lot of other strongmen. take a look.
| Daniel Martin | Leader | | Janier Acevedo | Super Domestique | | Tom Danielson | Super Domestique | | Steele Von Hoff | Sprinter | | Ramunas Navardauskus | Domestique | | David Millar | Domestique | | Johan Vansummeren | Domestique | | Raymond Kreder | Domestique | | Lasse Norman Hansen | Domestique |
We didn't exactly luck out with a weak competition here. Don't think a win is exactly in the cards.
*** Rodriguez, Nibali, Valverde, Contador
** Uran, Wiggins, Betancur, D. Martin, Evans, Pozzovivo
* Monfort, Kiserlovski, Van Garderen, Sanchez, Gesink, Pellizotti, Cunego, Rolland
**** Kittel
*** Sagan, Demare, Degenkolb
** Bouhanni, Guardini, Viviani, Goss
* Nizzolo, Bos, Ferrari, Henderson, Von Hoff
I'm done with these wrap ups and previews! it's time for racing!

I'm not sure if it's realistic and smart to bring Martin to Giro (with clear risk of not being ready for Le Tour and some other monuments, as well as WC later) besides Hesjedal, but good luck!

He is not going to the Tour as seen in his schedule above. I think the team will be fine there with Hesjedal and Talansky. Plus, he wants to take the only chance he has to race a GT in his own country.
He won't be overworked. His next target is the fall classics so he'll have a good break.

The reason he's so darn exhausted is because he's stupidly sprinting for top 10s in flat stages. See early part of story

I don't think race fatigue has anything to do with training fatigue, the problem here were much too high training bars in the early season.

That's my problem with PCM. If it had told me that when I first planned I could have adjusted it. Instead it tells me it's good and then changes the story.

A flat team trial here in (Northern) Ireland! Not my favorite type of race but I am loving it here so far. The fans really came out to make me and Nico at home. Can't wait to start racing!
Belkin was the first team to set a good time after a disappointing ride from OPQS, but it was doubtful to hold.
We gave it our best out there not to lose too much time, but our TT team is gearing towards the Tour this year. We ended up 53 seconds back in 8th place.
But it was BMC who charged ahead to take the win, two seconds in front of Movistar, giving their GC trio a good place to start. Hermans gets the leader's jersey.
Stage Results and General Classification
Rank | Team | Time | 1 | BMC Racing Team | 23'04 | 2 | Movistar Team | + 2 | 3 | Team Sky | + 15 | 4 | Astana Pro Team | + 20 | 5 | AG2R La Mondiale | + 32 | 6 | Team Katusha | + 37 | 7 | Belkin Pro Cycling Team | + 40 | 8 | Garmin Sharp | + 43 | 9 | Lotto Belisol | + 51 | 10 | Omega Pharma - Quick-Step | + 58 | 11 | Trek Factory Racing | + 1'06 | 12 | Orica GreenEdge | + 1'12 | 13 | Tinkoff - Saxo | + 1'19 | 14 | CCC Polsat Polkowice | + 1'26 | 15 | FDJ.fr | + 1'27 | 16 | Cannondale | + 1'33 | 17 | Team Giant - Shimano | + 1'43 | 18 | Lampre - Merida | + 1'52 | 19 | Team Europcar | + 2'01 | 20 | Bardiani CSF | + 2'09 | 21 | Androni Giocattoli | + 2'10 | 22 | YellowFluo | + 2'14 |
It was a quickie today. Tomorrow we get our first road stage and have a chance to get Von Hoff a good placing. And who knows, I might want to get in an attack here before the rest day !
