Oh, and for all clarity, I didn't doubt VdB's chances. He's a very consistant rider and even though he wasn't very good in the Dauphiné, he'll find some way to be very good at the Tour.
He was injured or ill, iirc.
Ill. He took antibiotics for several days.

I'm not entirely sold on this team. Trofimov will need to reach his top form again which seems unlikely after the Giro. Kuschinsky and Vorganov will have an important role on the flat stages. Will lose a lot of time in the TT.
Had expected Gusev and especially Spilak to make it. But Spilak has been racing a lot already, might be good not to burn him out again.
Yeah I'm surprised Spilak isn't there either but he has been getting some great one week results this year so maybe they are looking for him to focus on that? Or possibly he could be leading in the Vuelta if Purito doesn't ride it for GC?

Are the numbers of the teams already known? Obviously Sky gets 1-9, but what about the other teams? |

Last year nubers were assigned to teams based on their best rider's position in 2011, so this year I think it will the same way: Sky, Astana (or Cannondale, depending if they stick to rider or team), Lotto, BMC, RadioShack, Europcar and so on.

What do you guys think about Cofidis' chances? With Navarro, Taaramae and Coppel? Navarro performed very well in the Dauphine compared to Taaramae and Coppel who didn't do so well.

Navarro or Taaramae could maybe with some luck make the top 10. But Navarro never raced for a GC before and Taaramae always seems to have a bad day.
Coppel has been very dissapointing the last year, don't expect anything from him

If Taaramae improved his regularity a bit, he'd be amazing. Just look at Planche des Belles Filles to see what he can do on a good day.
Navarro seems to be back to his 2010 form after some bad years. I'm expecting him somewhere between 10th and 15th.
Coppel has never been a real GC contender, imo. He has been overrated for years, when a lot of people thought he was France's next GT rider. Seems like he was already maxed out by then.

No Frank, no Hushovd
Quinziato=Burghardt=Schar=Bookwalter. Exactly the same riders.
Though they always had 5-6 strong rouleurs to accompany Evans

He's not really over-rated imo or atleast not on this site anymore. He;s just what he is, which is a French rider, with decent climbing ability and above average TT ability for a French rider. If he performs well he could sneak into the Top 15 I'd say. Last year he was sick for the Tour and probably could have done a bit better, in 2011 he finished 13th.
Taaramae should definitely be the leader though.

Bookwalter replaces Cummings, Morabito replaces Hincapie otherwise excactly the same team as last year. If you replace Van Garderen with Santaromita it would even be the same team as 2011. So really the only thing different in this squad will be the leader (Even if BMC still says otherwise) |

Also disappointed to not see a helper for Kristoff. Isaychev would be great fit. Strong on the flats, loyal, decent lead-out and would do a very nice job in the TTT.
Paolini too. He can't be that burned out after the Giro.

He has been in good form since February. Doing the Tour would be overkill.
Katusha's goal is to help Purito to a win / podium. Would just be stupid to give him one domestique less, just to help Kristoff in the sprints.

With Isaychev they would have a domestique who could do a job for Kristoff in the sprints, for Purito on the flats, and for the team in the TTT. He would do a much better job than Smukulis or Kuchinski, IMO. |

Kuschinsky is way better as Isaychev. Top class domestique

I think Isaychev is just a little better. If you watched Glava Tour, whenever you saw Kristoff, Isaychev was right next to him. He did a great job keeping pace and leading out. |

Quinziato's there because the sponsor demands an american and an italian at the Tour (aside from swiss riders, but that's obvious as it's a swiss team with a swiss sponsor)

Sad to not see Hushovd this year. I thought he might have made a serious attempt to become better in the mountains so we might see some more attacks on semi-hard stages since he lost a bit of weight.
He showed something half-decent in Tour of Cali, but it was very much up and down since then. Well, atleast Kristoff, Hagen and Nordhaug(?) is confirmed. Hagen will probably end up being a work horse most of the time, but Kristoff is going to be extremely exciting.
