Sad ending... To the hard "age"
So, thanks for the comments guys, I can't tell how great feeling it is to see you following the Spiderways, and I'd like to tell you about my new decision about switching the game difficulty to Extreme, and try to get these great results against a stronger AI. I hope you see my point, the last stage was just ridicolous. Most of you agreed with me, so I hope that won't be a problem for anybody.
On another note, I won't be back home till Saturday, so the journey of the Spiders will continue on either Saturday or on Sunday. Hope you understand, and if not, there is ain't nothing to do about it...
P.S. Spiders Weekly graphics are coming along nicely, already talked to Casper about it, the 1st edition will be released next week, you can send me your articles from Monday... That's it for now, see you soon! |

It's time to get back, no?! Oh and for those who got scared by title, *evil laugh*....
Santos Tour Down Under Stage 5
Finally the Willunga! It'll be climbed twice, the GC is surely going to be decided here. We have the leaders jersey, however I don't think that Vegard is able to keep it... Nagy's time?
As usual, the stage started with a break getting away. This time, it was quite big one, containing 9 riders, with Phinney being the biggest name in it. The group got a decent lead, they had around 6 minutes.
Meanwhile, in the peloton something happened that is really rare! We were actually working at the front of the pack! What the .... ! It was Pye and Miller working at the front all-day, they were incredible!
The race was closing to the Willunga, and the gap shrunk quite a bit, and the break wasn't far away as we started the first climb.
We kept the pace high throughout the whole hill, this way we could prevent the attacks. That tactic was also handy in another way, as we closed the gap to the break, and caught them downhill.
A 54-men peloton started the climb together, however some dropped early on the climb. Some attacks came, most of them were weak, but...
... there was a good one. Alone, Devenys broke clear and got a 50sec gap. Nagy immediately upped the pace, dropped everybody from him, and got closer and closer to Devenys.
But it wasn't enough, the belgian Devenys wins the stage! He gets the GC lead too! Nagy fights hard and comes 2nd at 36'. The 3rd is Kiryienka, who came in at 57' with Moser.
| 1 | Dries Devenyns | Omega Pharma - Quick·Step Cycling Team | 3h35'49 | | 2 | Benji Nagy | SpiderTech - Cervélo | + 36 | | 3 | Vasil Kiryienka | Movistar Team | + 57 | | 4 | Moreno Moser | Liquigas - Cannondale | s.t. | | 5 | Manuele Mori | Lampre - ISD | + 1'13 | | 6 | Jonathan Castroviejo | Movistar Team | s.t. | | 7 | Mikel Astarloza | Euskaltel - Euskadi | s.t. | | 8 | Yaroslav Popovych | RadioShack - Nissan | + 1'27 | | 9 | Michael Barry | Sky Procycling | s.t. | | 10 | Pablo Urtasun | Euskaltel - Euskadi | s.t. |
1 | Dries Devenyns | Omega Pharma - Quick·Step Cycling Team | 17h03'33 | 2 | Benji Nagy | SpiderTech - Cervélo | + 30 | 3 | Vasil Kiryienka | Movistar Team | + 1'03 | 4 | Moreno Moser | Liquigas - Cannondale | s.t. | 5 | Manuele Mori | Lampre - ISD | + 1'23 | 6 | Jonathan Castroviejo | Movistar Team | s.t. | 7 | Mikel Astarloza | Euskaltel - Euskadi | s.t. | 8 | Anthony Ravard | AG2R La Mondiale | + 1'25 | 9 | Jonathan Blackwood | SpiderTech - Cervélo | + 1'27 | 10 | Mike Pye | SpiderTech - Cervélo | + 1'31 |

Santos Tour Down Under Stage6
A short 90 kilometer long criterium in Adelaide to finish things off in Australia. A mass sprint is more than expected.
Like a usually flat stage, this also starts with a break getting formed, this time it's a quite big one, so no surprise that the pack won't let them go too far on a short stage like this one.
So, FDJ decided to take control of the pace in the pack, they were working with several domestiques at the front. With the help of Lotto - Belisol they managed to bring them back, quite easily.
Right after the catch, several teams organised trains, we also tried with one for Hansen, however we messed it up and couldn't make it properly. Lotto did best in that discipline, they were clearly leading the pack turning into the last 3 kilometers.
As the final line started to get closer and closer, the peloton went faster every second, Lotto was pushing very hard. Our train couldn't keep, we were hopeless today.
Lotto also messed up their train, Reynes was at the front at the last kilometer mark, but Roelandts was way down from him! What's happening on this crazy stage! Reynes fades, lot of people overtake him, it's really close, who wins it?!
Murilo Fischer!!! What a sprint by the brazilian champion, edging out Van Hummel and teammate Hunter on the line! Great performance by Garmin taking a 1-2! The best spider is Hansen as the 13th.
| 1 | Murilo Fischer | Garmin - Sharp | 1h55'24 | | 2 | Kenny Van Hummel | Vacansoleil - DCM Pro Cycling Team | s.t. | | 3 | Robert Hunter | Garmin - Sharp | s.t. | | 4 | Manuel Belletti | AG2R La Mondiale | s.t. | | 5 | Jonathan Cantwell | Team Saxo Bank - Tinkoff Bank | s.t. | | 6 | Nacer Bouhanni | FDJ - BigMat | s.t. | | 7 | Baden Cooke | Orica - GreenEdge | s.t. | | 8 | Graeme Brown | Rabobank Cycling Team | s.t. | | 9 | Jimmy Casper | AG2R La Mondiale | s.t. | | 10 | Sébastien Hinault | AG2R La Mondiale | s.t. |
Devenys takes the GC after his win on the Willunga Hill!
1 | Dries Devenyns | Omega Pharma - Quick·Step Cycling Team | 18h58'57 | 2 | Benji Nagy | SpiderTech - Cervélo | + 30 | 3 | Vasil Kiryienka | Movistar Team | + 1'03 | 4 | Moreno Moser | Liquigas - Cannondale | s.t. | 5 | Manuele Mori | Lampre - ISD | + 1'23 | 6 | Jonathan Castroviejo | Movistar Team | s.t. | 7 | Mikel Astarloza | Euskaltel - Euskadi | s.t. | 8 | Jonathan Blackwood | SpiderTech - Cervélo | + 1'27 | 9 | Mike Pye | SpiderTech - Cervélo | + 1'31 | 10 | Daniel Oss | Liquigas - Cannondale | + 1'35 |
We get the point jersey for Nagy, who was really consistent throughout the race!
1 | Benji Nagy | SpiderTech - Cervélo | | 14 | 2 | Elia Viviani | Liquigas - Cannondale | | 14 | 3 | Boris Shpilevski | AG2R La Mondiale | | 14 |
1 | Pim Ligthart | Vacansoleil - DCM Pro Cycling Team | | 60 | 2 | Maarten Tjallingii | Rabobank Cycling Team | | 44 | 3 | Dries Devenyns | Omega Pharma - Quick·Step Cycling Team | | 28 |
We also managed to take the U25 and the Team Classification!
The stage didn't go well, no points today...
For the whole race:
Nagy - 1 for the points jersey and the U25 |

Wow, the team was great in Australia...
A shame that we just miss out on the GC, but still great.
Now it's soon time for Qatar Spoiler even though Qatar itself is boring
