Stage 17

The 17th stage had a HC climb but with a big descent to the line it gave the specialists the opportunity to gain time. Simoni finally got his stage win, Menchov and Pereiro lost time to Leipheimer and Contador and now the first four are separated by less than a minute leaving all the race discussion to Zocolan on Stage 20. Julich controlled Di Luca to hold to his 10th place.

CSC didn't got the main goal of placing Julich on the top three and was far from the sponsors objective of winning the three GT this year, but in the end a top 10 place and two stage wins with Zabriskie is not that bad. Also the young Andy showed himself and everybody is now expecting that he improve a lot since he's just 20.

Critérium du Dauphiné Liberé

With Tour de France on the mind CSC will have two goals in Dauphiné. Preparing some of the riders that will be on the Tour and getting results. The sponsors demand a podium on the final classification and Bobby Julich brings the form built in Italy to achieve that. To win flat stages the team brought O'Grady who will have support.

CSC Squad

- B. Julich
- C. Vandevelde
- M. Blaudzun
- P. Luttenberger
- N. Sorensen
- G. Lombardi
- S. O'Grady
- M. Breschel

Main Favorites

- F. Landis
- C. Evans
- A. Kloden
- S. Sanchez
- M. Rasmussen
- J. Gutiérrez Cataluña
- P. Savoldelli
- J. Jaksche
- J. Gadret

A strong list of riders came to France with Landis also benefiting from the Giro form. Vino, Evans and Kloden are all very strong riders as well and all the others mentioned can also get a good gap and then defend it.

We'll have 3 mountain stages, 2 of them with summit finishes and preceded by hard climbs. In the last stage a 42,5 km time trial that can give advantage to the specialists. On the middle, a hilly stage good for puncheurs and two sprint stages. On the first stage we'll have a prologue with 7.3 km that will dictate the first yellow jersey.

Stage 1

On the first day Julich got the stage win he was looking the last month in Italy! Vandevelde also performed greatly with a third place. With just 7 km of race no big gaps where created.

He is taking advantage of his Giro form. But he is not going to Tour de France. The team captain will be in Switzerland first Wink

Critérium du Dauphiné Liberé Stage 6

Today's stage is one of those to the pure climbers. With 2 HC and 1 first categories climb on the way the end is also on the top of another 2nd category climb. It will take a lot of energy to get to the end and some quite big differences might be settled today. It will be very hard to Julich to hold on to his lead.

Race Report

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/CSC%202006/Dauphine/Stage%206/PCM000216_zps44128e86.jpg

The peloton arrives at the top of the first HC climb with CSC controlling things. The BOD has over 9 minutes and 13 men but there's still a lot of climbing ahead.

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/CSC%202006/Dauphine/Stage%206/PCM000316_zps94cae3ea.jpg

Phonak has taken the lead of the peloton and a lot of riders are in trouble as we're on the middle of the second HC climb. The gap to the BOD is now decreasing.

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/CSC%202006/Dauphine/Stage%206/PCM000415_zps483bb04a.jpg

With 22 km to go the favorites groups has 18 men and still have a gap of 5'48 to the front of the race. Vandevelde is on Evans group 54'' behind Julich is alone among the first 8 of the GC.

Bobby was expecting troubles today but his respond was really good, but he now only has 4 seconds to Vinokourov and 19 to Landis. With tomorrow's stage being as hard as today's, and being these two rivals great time trialists, the next 2 days will have a lot of action!

Meanwhile, also tomorrow CSC will participate in Tour de Suisse with Basso leading the team. This is will be important in order to shape up to the Tour.

Ian Butler
Hope Basso does well in Tour de Suisse!

Bobby will have to keep a close eye on Vino from now on Wink

Stage 1

On the first day we have the prologue with 7.8 km that will define the first leader. With Cancellara and Zabriskie CSC have 2 very strong candidates and even Basso or Sastre can win it as they've been improving their time trial abilities on the last weeks.

Zabriskie still had the rhythm from Giro and he won his 5th time trial this year.

Ullrich got a better shape than Basso but later on Tour de France that might be the way around as he brings many kms in his legs.

Critérium du Dauphiné Liberé Stage 7

This french race is now on the decisive days. Today we have another hard mountain stage and tomorrow we'll have a 42.5 km time trial. So if today Dauphiné might be lost, it will hardly be won today.

Race Report

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/CSC%202006/Dauphine/PCM000416_zps7222092e.jpg

The 13 men BOD is now on the HC climb with 47 km to go. They have over 20 (!!!) minutes on the peloton. With no one dangerous to the GC the main teams just let them go and are saving energy.

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/CSC%202006/Dauphine/PCM000518_zpseac8694b.jpg

Evans attack on the long descent. With so many teams interested there he shouldn't stand a chance.

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/CSC%202006/Dauphine/PCM000617_zps4f3636ac.jpg

A group of 4 riders attack as we enter the last 10 km and the final climb. Evans is very active today.

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/CSC%202006/Dauphine/PCM000718_zpsf5f3b78f.jpg

Now it's Rasmussen who attacks! He's one hell of a climber and he's just 1'33 behind on the GC.

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/CSC%202006/Dauphine/PCM000817_zps6e012dc8.jpg

With 5 km to go Julich have been managing to hold on to the attacks. Vandevelde has dropped and he's now alone. Vino is a bit too quiet. He should be cooking something...

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/CSC%202006/Dauphine/PCM000916_zps47f535bb.jpg

Meanwhile at the front, E. Jiménez (C. Valenciana) wins the stage.

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/CSC%202006/Dauphine/PCM001014_zps9442eb69.jpg

Yesterday's first two Vila and Vinokourov attack! 3.3 km to go...

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/CSC%202006/Dauphine/PCM001112_zps291c4004.jpg

Julich responds and closes the gap...

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/CSC%202006/Dauphine/PCM00127_zps22e8bcd6.jpg

Vino again! And Julich reacts. Rasmussen is almost caught...

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/CSC%202006/Dauphine/PCM00135_zps93976307.jpg

He just doesn't quit!!

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/CSC%202006/Dauphine/PCM00144_zps66bce6d1.jpg

Rasmussen is the first within the favorites. Vino might have a gap there.

Julich will lose his yellow jersey today!
