But nice to see Lewis in the Mountains Jersey
He will fight to the end!!!
Lewis is doing great for the KoM jersey. always happy to get in the break as well, cos his name bar lights up green whenever he attacks!
I am secretly hoping that the sponsors will be happy with KoM victory and possible Points Jersey, cos I think Overall GC victory is out of the question. Nibali and Hesjedal are just far too strong

Another hilly stage, and another day where the focus is on Tejay. After losing time yesterday, he will want to look at putting some time into his GC rivals.

20th May 2011 - Amgen Tour of California
(Solvang ITT)
Stage 6 is an ITT around the city of Solvang. With no real difficult spots along the route, this is definitely one for the out and out Time Trialists.
0km: In the start gate, I was feeling really relaxed before the start. Richie Porte (Saxobank), who had had a very disappointing AToC so far, had set the fastest time at the finish, coming across the line in 33'19".
13km: At the first check point, I was going well and was only 27" down on Porte.
23km: Crossing the line, I was only 24" slower than Porte! Either I am on fire, or he is lacking some serious form. Checking the times of the other riders, I had even beaten the Canadian TT Champion Svein Tuft by 1".
As the GC battle began, it was Bradley Wiggins (Sky) who came out on top, with Tejay again losing more time.

21th May 2011 - Amgen Tour of California
(Claremont - Mt. Baldy)
The queen stage of the Amgen Tour of California. Up from the word go, the stage ends with a long climb up Mont Baldy, where the GC positions will be all but finalised. Anyone who needs to make up time, will need to do it here, so expect action!
There was an issue with the screenshot, so sadly it is missing
Andy Schleck (Leopard) took the vital victory on the Queen stage of this year's AToC, ahead of Ryder Hesjedal and Ivan Basso. Race Leader Vincenzo Nibali finished the stage 4th, almost guaranteeing the Overall victory in the process. Tejay finished safely with Nibali, moving up to 6th overall on GC and into the Under 25 Jersey by 2", with 1 stage left.

22nd May 2011 - Amgen Tour of California
(Santa Clarita - Thousand Oaks)
The final stage of Amgen Tour of California is one for the sprinters. No real lumps on the profile, so expecting a mass sprint finish in Thousand Oaks.
There are two plans in place today. The first is the simplest; get Craig into the break of the day, and take maximum points on the KoM sprints. We want that Mountains Jersey!
Plan two is then putting me in the perfect place to take the victory. Sadly the Points Jersey is out of reach, but I am wanting to get my third win here in the US.
12km: 5 riders origianally got away at the start of the stage. As planned, Craig was part of it, chasing down every further attack by the riders.
52km: The break's size grew to 16, but on the short steep climb to the first KoM sprint, it broke up, leaving just 4 riders out front. Craig came over the line first, taking the maximum 5 points. He was now up to 2nd in the Mountains Classification, equal on points with Proni (Acqua & Sapone).
84km: Approaching the next KoM sprint, the break grew in size again, as riders jumped across the gap between lead group and following pack. Craig set the pace, on high alert as the team car let him know that Christopher Jones (UnitedHealthcare) was part of this break. Jones was just 2 points behind Craig in the KoM, and whoever won this sprint, won the jersey... And I think the picture tells the whole story!
101km: Team Sky controlled the pace on the stage, just keeping the breakaway with reach. But it was going to be a fast finish.
113km: Entering the final finishing circuit, around Thousand Oaks, the break was still 2'35" ahead, with less than 20km remaining... By our maths, that is out of reach! Sky had ridden far too slow.
128km: With 5km to go, there was still 1'03" separating the break from the chasers, and it looked destined that they would stay away.
129km: Nonetheless, we hit the front hard. First Tony, then Tejay, followed by Danny went at full gas on the front. The gap was tumbling...
131km: As the sprint began, Brent Bookwalter (BMC) was leading out the break, with Ian Wilkinson (Endura) on his wheel.
132km: It was clear that Bookwalter had gone to early, and Wilkinson blasted past him, and behind, I was closing in fast!
133km: Victory to Wilkinson! The Endura rider was clearly the fastest sprinter from the break, comfortably taking the win. Behind, I caught the very back of the break, crossing the line 16th.

World Champ on the move?
With July fast approaching, more and more riders are beginning to be linked with new teams for the 2012 season.
The biggest one of these rumours is coming out of Garmin - Cervélo, who are looking in taking on the World TT and Swiss RR Champion Fabian Cancellara for next season. Team Manager Jonathan Vaughters did not fully comfirm the rumours when questioned during the second rest day at the Giro d'Italia, but later posted on his Twitter page that 'any team would be lucky to have a ride like Fabian'.
Elsewhere, Europcar have been linked with Movistar rider José JoaquÃn Rojas, as they look to bolster their sprint line up in search of a WorldTour License for 2012.

Only been away for a day and you have really made progress in this story
Pity Mark couldn't take the Points jersey in California, but at least Craig secured the Mountains Classification
And Marco is holding on to his Podium place in Italy by the skin of his teeth |
