van Emden, Per, Wyss and Drucker all don't look bad for Benelux, and even if the GC doesn't come off it could be a great race for you with contenders on every stage. GPC could be too easy for Bardet I fear, but Wyss and even Leezer could enjoy it!

Well let's hope all those contenders can live up to their billing. Important couple of races for us...

Very interesting to see how the team will cope with 3 leaders in the Benelux Challenge PCM has a habbit of just allowing 1 leader and 1 sprinter so could be a strange race for you if all does not go to plan |

Wouldn't put it past PCM to send the other two back to pace a fallen leader! Hopefully that won't happen and we can put up a good show, in what is also partly a home race.

Expectation: Top 5 (Goal Race - Top 5) Our last goal race and we arrive here with a lot of expectations. The team we have selected is meant to cover all possible outcomes, with Drucker being the premier leader, keeping the cobbled stage 4 in mind.
Stage 1
Both Van Emden and Van Zandbeek were favoured for good results on this stage, with the former being among the top 5 favourites. Sadly, it did not quite materialise for our guys, as 9th and 13th was the best that they could achieve. Not a disaster, but we were expecting atleast a couple of positions better from them. Both Drucker and Kreder lost 17" and Wyss lost 21", so no harm done in their GC challenge.
Stage 2
Per joined the break on this stage. He managed to win one KOM sprint but couldn't pick up any points on the others. Disaster struck inside the final 15 km as Drucker was involved in a crash. By the time they recovered, their group was already four minutes down a charging peloton. Drucker's GC chances had evaporated already!
Per could not follow the final attack for the win from Kaislavuo, and got swept up by the pack inside the final kilometer. Kreder looked to be in the best position for the sprint but was pipped on the line by Horton and settled for 3rd. We were down to two GC contenders!
Stage 3
With Drucker out of the running, all eyes were on Wyss and to deliver him to the best possible position on this stage. We had an anonymous day in the peloton, as we left most of the chasing to other teams with more fancied punchers. The pace up front split the pack around the 100 km to go mark, and both van Zandbeek and van Emden got caught on the wrong side of it. They tried to make it back but were not able to. The distance to the break kept going up and down in the meantime. A couple of moves were closed down by Xero inside the final 5 kilometers after the break was caught. Vichot then did launch the decisive attack, with us following. Wyss led out Kreder and while we couldn't catch the Kulczyk rider, Kreder finished 2nd to pick up enough time to take over the GC lead! Wyss finished 5th on the stage.
Stage 4
The stage which promised carnage! A big early break went away. We joined up with Xero to do the pace-making in the pack and to protect Kreder's GC lead. We set the pace so high with Drucker, Per and stagiare Allegaert that a lot of riders got dropped inside the first 70 km. Things slowed down a little after that but we didn't leave the pace-making to anyone else. Mostly Drucker and Per, with intermittent help from Allegaert, led the peloton in the chase of the break. The break kept shedding riders and they were swiftly picked up by the pack. We were able to split the pack again at the 40 km mark but the dropped riders made it back. The break shed even more riders but it was now becoming clear that they wouldn't be caught today! No harm done to our GC hopes as none of them were a threat. We led the pack to the line, Per taking the plaudits of being the first rider from the peloton to cross the line in 4th. Kreder was up there too, finishing 7th while the final point and 8th place on the stage went to Allegaert, a great moment for the youngster.
Kreder kept his GC lead, while Per moved into the U25s lead.
Stage 5
The last GC critical stage. As with stage 3, some of the teams with strong punchers helped with chasing the break, so our guys got some rest after a grueling chase on the last stage. Nothing of note happened for us till the break got caught with 21 km left. There was only attack of note from here till the finish, Roux tried to go clear. He was closed down by Kreder and Squire. The latter then tried an attack of his own but was also quickly closed, this time by Xero. It all came down to the uphill sprint. Kreder lost his position in the bunch on the steep slope inside the final kilometer and could not counter as Squire, Simon, Monfort and Rybakov made the decisive move. Squire would take the win and the GC lead, with Kreder slipping down to 4th behind also Simon and Rybakov. Wyss in 9th as our best finisher on the day. Per held on his jersey.
Stage 6
There were enough time bonuses available on this stage for Kreder to take back the lead with a high finish. The breakaway were heavily favoured to take the win but that's not how it turned out! Both Reddit and Kulczyk had their best GC contenders crash on this stage and lose time. Kreder had awful positioning in the sprint and could only finish in 8th, meaning he would only move up one place at the cost of Simon. It did mean he would win the Points classification though!
1 | Robbie Squire | Azteca-NBCSN | 22h59'52 | 3 | Michel Kreder | Philips - Continental | + 17 | 8 | Marcel Wyss | Philips - Continental | + 41 | 16 | Jaoa Costa | Philips - Continental | + 2'04 | 19 | David Per | Philips - Continental | + 3'48 | 49 | Jempy Drucker | Philips - Continental | + 11'01 | 56 | Ronan Van Zandbeek | Philips - Continental | + 12'18 | 79 | Piet Allegaert | Philips - Continental | + 18'38 | 92 | Jos Van Emden | Philips - Continental | + 22'20 |
Incredible race for us. Of our three Gc contenders, we would've never guessed it would be Kreder who would finish in the podium places for us! Wyss had a mostly anonymous ride to 8th while Costa wasn't even mentioned and ended up 16th! Per did a lot of work, 19th and the U25s classification a just reward for his efforts. And this wrap-up will not be complete without congratulating Allegaert on picking up a point in his first ever race.
A complete team performance in our last goal race, and also in a race which is partly a home race. Couldn't have asked for a better response from the team after Drucker's misfortune. This result was needed, as the races coming up do not favour us to a large extent. It is all about defending our lead in the rankings from here on in.

Good to see the lads with an incredible performance bouncing back from the disaster of Drucker's crash. Loved it, but a wee bit jealous seeing similar races for us but the results swing in your favour with Kreder Some cool moments of us working together though
Congrats

A huge race like this one, and now promotion looks a lot brighter for you than 10 days ago, although it will still need a huge fight in the last two months of the season to achieve it

@jt: When Drucker fell, it was almost exactly like what I had mentioned in my last reply to you. Thankfully the others stepped up
@jandal: You had your fun in San Luis, we had it here I was hoping we'd team up to chase down breaks from earlier on in the season! What would be great in one the remaining races is to have Per and Jams attack together and leaving the pack behind to battle it out for a win
@Aquarius: I'm quite sure the promotion fight will go down right to the wire, firstly because I don't expect Wyss to over-perform like he has been doing in the remaining hilly races (which dominate the rest of the CT calendar), and secondly a lot of point scoring will depend on our sprinters, and that's not an area we've excelled in so far, despite Kreder's performances. Krieger has been awful, notwithstanding the crash at Juarez.
@Vien: Thanks
Well, at the start of the season, I had picked your team to be on the edge of the promotion fight, mostly because you had leaders for all terrains (including certain riders I wanted but could not pursue because prices went up elsewhere). After a slow-ish start, you are now well in the promotion race after results have picked up recently. You're not doing too badly yourself Shame about the Simon crash though. Would've preferred Kreder taking that spot via time-bonuses, and not be gifted it like he was...
@knockout: Thanks and the feeling is mutual

Gran Prix Cyclistes Review We wanted to keep the momentum going from Benelux but were cautious with out expectation from this race.
Stage 1
After a long hard day chasing the break, although we weren't at the front much, the result came down to a sprint up the final hill. Wyss had poor positioning and finished 13th. Bardet was the only other rider to finish in the front group for us, that too in the 30s.
Stage 2
Ruijgh joined the four man break.
Once again, we left the chasing to others, quite naturally having a rider in the break. The pack swallowed up the break with 43 km still remaining, opening up possibilities of early attacks. However, those never came for the most part. The first attack came with around 5 km to go but was chased down. It came down to a sprint to the finish inside the final kilometer with Vichot proving to fast for the others.
Wyss finished 8th on the day. he moved up to 7th in the GC. Bardet finished in the front group and finished 22nd.
1 | Arthur Vichot | Kulczyk - DMTEX | 10h08'34 | 7 | Marcel Wyss | Philips - Continental | + 28 | 22 | Romain Bardet | Philips - Continental | s.t. | 31 | Jaoa Costa | Philips - Continental | + 1'36 | 43 | Enrico Battaglin | Philips - Continental | + 2'18 | 58 | Tom Leezer | Philips - Continental | + 5'25 | 94 | Lennard Hofstede | Philips - Continental | + 10'52 | 125 | Rob Ruijgh | Philips - Continental | + 15'18 | 177 | Miles Scotson | Philips - Continental | + 33'34 |
Marcel Wyss continues his incredible consistency to finish in the top 10 and meet our expectations from this race. Not much depth scoring for us here but we keep the points flowing in to maintain our place in the standings. Also, in our battle of the Stagiares, it's Allegaert 1-0 Hofstede, as the latter isn't quite as competitive here, not that we expected anything else.

As we come to the end of August, we look back again at how we have been getting along in our first season in the MG. This analysis is a follow-up on the Mid Term report we published after races in May were completed. You can catch up with it here. I plan to make this a recurring report for the coming seasons, along with the mid-term report.
We have completed 95 RDs so far, meaning we have 25 RDs to race in the final two months of the season. Here is alook at how we've gotten along in the past three months and what kind of progress, if any, the team has been able to make since then.
| Till May | June | July | August | Total | Projected | Points | 632 | 116 | 154 | 220 | 1122 | 1417 | RDs | 60 | 12 | 15 | 8 | 95 | | PpRD | 10.53 | 9.67 | 10.27 | 27.50 | 11.81 | | Rank | 5 | 6 | 4 | 4 | | 6 |
The past three months have been incredible for the team. Our worst PpRD in this period was in June, which was still better three of the previous five months! August saw us achieve an incredible PpRD of greater than 27!
We have been on the up ever since the last update, something which we were hoping to achieve with the races in that period suiting us to a large extent. Our current position of 4th comes with a gap to 6th, which will take us away from the direct promotion spots, but such a gap can be wiped away in the course of a couple of bad races.
Our projected points total would've put us in 6th place in last year's CT. The points scoring this time has been lower, so if we match our projections, we should safely promote directly.
Race | Points | RDs | PpRD | Benelux Challenge | 179 | 6 | 29.83 | Tour du Faso | 124 | 3 | 41.33 | Tour de San Luis | 91 | 8 | 11.38 | Vuelta a Tachira | 86 | 10 | 8.60 | Geraardsbergen - Bosberg | 80 | 2 | 40.00 | Tour d'Andorra | 79 | 5 | 15.80 | Euskal Bizikleta | 74 | 4 | 18.50 | Cacak Classic | 48 | 2 | 24.00 | GP Cyclistes | 41 | 2 | 20.50 | Kuurne - Bruxelles - Kuurne | 40 | 2 | 20.00 | Barcelona Classic | 39 | 2 | 19.50 | Giro del Trentino | 34 | 5 | 6.80 | Tour of Bulgaria | 32 | 5 | 6.40 | Tour of the Battenkill | 31 | 2 | 15.50 | Ciculo de Juarez | 26 | 5 | 5.20 | Olympia's Tour | 23 | 6 | 3.83 | Tour de Langkawi | 23 | 7 | 3.29 | Bayern Rundfahrt | 21 | 5 | 4.20 | San Cristobal Classic | 11 | 2 | 5.50 | Gisborne GP | 11 | 2 | 5.50 | Lillestrom GP | 11 | 2 | 5.50 | Windhoek Classic | 7 | 2 | 3.50 | San Marino Hill Classic | 6 | 2 | 3.00 | Great Ocean Road Classic | 5 | 2 | 2.50 | Gent - Wevelgem | 0 | 2 | 0.00 |
Benelux Challenge replaces Tour du Faso as our best race of the season so far. Also a goal race, everything came good for us is Benelux, despite the early disappointment of Drucker's crash. The Tour of Andorra gave us a points haul higher than what we predicted. Bardet single-handedly saved Bulgaria from being a near zero outcome. Tour de San Luis was another unexpected success, with Wyss leading the charge in the GC and Costa in the KOM.
We have raced all our goal races. We have achieved our goals in two of them, a top 10 in Euskal Bizikleta and a top 5 in Benelux.
Rider | Points | RDs Used | PpRD | RDs Left | Projected Points | Wyss | 188 | 32 | 5.88 | 18 | 294 | Kreder | 186 | 32 | 5.81 | 13 | 262 | Bardet | 185 | 46 | 4.02 | 6 | 209 | Drucker | 149 | 33 | 4.52 | 13 | 208 | Per | 115 | 54 | 2.13 | 9 | 134 | Van Emden | 74 | 47 | 1.57 | 13 | 94 | Costa | 56 | 43 | 1.30 | 14 | 74 | Grabovski | 39 | 38 | 1.03 | 15 | 54 | Krieger | 31 | 46 | 0.67 | 6 | 35 | Matzka | 30 | 41 | 0.73 | 6 | 34 | Battaglin | 20 | 44 | 0.45 | 8 | 24 | Ruijgh | 18 | 44 | 0.41 | 16 | 25 | Van Zandbeek | 12 | 46 | 0.26 | 14 | 16 | Bogdanovics | 10 | 38 | 0.26 | 6 | 12 | Timmer | 6 | 50 | 0.12 | 15 | 8 | Scotson | 2 | 34 | 0.06 | 11 | 3 | Allegaert | 1 | 6 | 0.17 | 8 | 2 | Leezer | 0 | 47 | 0.00 | 18 | 0 | Hofstede | 0 | 0 | | 15 | 0 | Total | | | | | 1487 |
At just 55k wage, Marcel Wyss has to be the most value for money rider in the CT as he leads our points-scoring. An incredible 100+ return from Kreder in Benelux propels him from struggling to reach 100 to now easily having a 200+ season barring unfortunate events. Bardet is leading our mountain charge with little or no support, picking up valuable points in every race he turns up to. Drucker on the other hand hasn't quite pushed on in recent races, and doesn't have any further races that suit his strengths.
Costa has picked from a bad first half of the season but Battaglin and Bogdanovics haven't pushed on. Krieger has two big races to justify his place for the coming season. Van Emden has been playing the consistent strongman role to perfection.
Race | Leader 1 | Leader 2 | Paris Tours | Krieger | | Tour of Britain | Wyss | Kreder | GP Yekaterinburg | Wyss | Costa | Colombian Venteaux | Bardet | Battaglin | Herald Sun Tour | Kreder | Grabovski | Course de Solidarnosc | Krieger | | Zuri Metzgete | Wyss | Costa |
Positives:
Marcel Wyss still has three races left in his favoured terrain. If he keeps going at his current pace, he can single-handedly pull us to promotion.
Kreder's outings should suit him in terms of the profiles.
Negatives:
Krieger leads two races of what's left. The results in these two races could be the difference between 5th and 6th place.
Bardet's only other race leading us does not suit him too much.
Our Palmares is up date and available here.

Really great review which sums perfectly the strenghts of your team, having 5 riders with 100+ points but no one with 200+, and the distribution of points in races, with barely not a really bad race, and almost always scoring decently from every race.
Promotion looks safe for you, as i can't see a season scenario where you would drop behind 6th place, and if you get a direct promotion spot might depend on the puncheurs battle in Britain, Yekaterinburg and Zuri, with Xero and Azteca both having top puncheurs

@Aquarius: The target was to have leaders for all terrains and I'm happy that has worked out. Ironically, it was the hills I was least satisfied with after the transfers ended but Wyss has put all doubts to bed. I know I won't be able to compete with Xero or Azteca in the hills, Wyss alone can't even out their results, that's why I highlighted how important Kreder and Krieger's results are going to be. That is an area where we can take back points lost in the hills, and even in the mountains of Colombia.
@Tamijo: Thanks Tamijo It has been a good ride so far. And I guess we've been decently lucky.
@Vien: Thanks for the support. Wyss wasn't a top choice when we started planning for the team, but he's been worth banking on!
@Marco: Thanks and if we get there, hope to regularly ride alongside your team in the peloton next season
@Jandal: That sounds like a great plan Once again, the feeling's mutual!

Holding Forte - September Preview
"The Future in Motion"
Jempy Drucker | Sprint Train | Alexander Krieger | Sprinter | Maris Bogdanovics | Leadout | Jos Van Emden | Pace Setter | Ronan Van Zandbeek | Pace Setter | Ralf Matzka | Sprint Train | David Per | Free Role | Piet Allegaert | Domestique |
The last time we participated in a long tough flat classic was way back for the Great Ocean Road Classic where our squad failed dramatically! We have a similar team taking part here, with Krieger the designated sprinter. With this race being well over 200 km, we expect things to get tough at the end. That's why we've also taken along a couple of the strongmen for the ride. Expectations: Top 10
Watch Out For: Jos Van Emden
Michel Kreder | Sprinter | Dmitri Grabovski | Pace Setter/Time Trial | Marcel Wyss | Co-Leader | Jaoa Costa | Co-Leader | Rob Ruijgh | Domestique | Tom Leezer | Domestique | Albert Timmer | Domestique | Lennard Hofstede | Domestique |
The successful combination from Benelux, that of Kreder, Wyss and Costa are back for this race. A lot of our promotion hopes hang on Wyss's performances and this is an important race in that regard. While we do not realistically expect to challenge for the win, we do expect to be up there fighting for the top 10. We also expect to be competitive in the two flat stages with Kreder and in the TT with Grabovski. Expectations: Top 10
Watch Out For: Michel Kreder
Romain Bardet | Free Role | Enrico Battaglin | Free Role | Marcel Wyss | Co-Leader | Jaoa Costa | Co-Leader | Rob Ruijgh | Domestique | Tom Leezer | Domestique | Albert Timmer | Domestique | Piet Allegaert | Domestique |
Another Wyss race, another important milestone in our quest for points. This should be a race which favour Wyss more, given that he seems to prefer races with multiple short climbs rather than one or two longer ones. The climb to the finish is also not long enough to bother him. On the flip side, Bardet could well be a contender if he sticks to the front till the last climb, given it's gradients. Not the likeliest of scenarios but an outside shot nonetheless. Expectations: Top 10
Watch Out For: Romain Bardet
