Big thanks to jdog for making this AMAZING userbar!
Well, the action in Oman was about to finally get underway. The teams knew it was crucial to get out to a good start this race, and avoid letting what happened in Qatar happen again. Would teams like Celesio & Bunzl reign again, or will we see Tisot or Citigroup finally grab the top spot. There are also quiet teams like Cadbury & Glanbia that have yet to make a statement.
There was actually no clear cut favorite to win the entire race. Riders showed up that shouldn't have, and some that were expected to come skipped out last second. The only thing reporters and team captains could do was sit back and watch their riders give it their all and bring home a win.
-~-~-~-~-~
We should have an excellent 150km race on our hands today, as we start out with a climb before steadily declining into the finish, which will surely be a sprint by the favorites.
The start of the race was a bit odd. I'm not sure if it was because riders were nervous and excited or if they didn't know what they were doing. Nobody was allowing anybody to pull away. No breaks. This was the case for the first quarter of the race, until andy22c and valverde300602 got away.
Shades of the first few races coming up, as Celesio was indeed the team out front doing the pacing. But wait, Glanbia is also right up front for the first time all season. They must have brought a happy squad.
Out front, the 2 leaders battled for the mountain jersey, and it would be andy22c getting the lead. This brings up an interesting case, the entire peleton now has an opportunity to sprint for that last point. Would anybody go after it? Yes, 2 riders in fact.
It was 547984 beating out Dankan for the 3rd place provisional.
At 100km to go there was a 5:00 lead. Tisot & Citigroup began to make their way to the front of the main field to ensure that the break would not stay away for long.
A few minutes later, things got extremely weird. A massive sprint broke out of nowhere from the main field as they vigorously started to chase the break. They got the gap the whole way down to 2:00 at the first sprint of the day, and with just 90km to go, things were close again. I'm not sure why they all sped up at one time though.
The 2:00 lead did not last long, as it was 3:00 before long. Rin & Slivio Herklotz are pacing the main field, and the lead extended to 4:00 with 75km left. Why was the peleton playing cat and mouse with the 2 leaders?
Citigroup now made their way to do the pacing, trying to get jseadog1 in position for his first stage win of the year. With 50km left it was now a 3:30 lead.
Nothing exciting happened the rest of the way until the main field finally caught the break just inside of 10km to go. Exxon was leading the chase when they were captured. The riders were not organizing sprint trains at all, as many of them were tiring themselves out just trying to find teammates and get into position.
It was so frantic from trying to catch the break that nobody had time to organize. Exxon had TheManxMissile because he was with the riders leading the charge. Tisot is always into position as they had Lachi & cio93 ready to go.
Funny how things work huh? Those 3 I just mentioned ended up indeed being your top 3, but the fastest and most efficient was cio93, who grabs a big stage win and has now won a stage in 2 of the 3 races this year!

Pretty good start to the race. The peleton underestimated the power of the break and it almost cost them yet again, as we were close to having another race with a big lead to start out. Thankfully things were interesting and we see cio93 in the lead early on. It will be interesting to see how he holds up especially with teammate Lachi right behind, who will surely perform better on the hilly parts of the race.

This cio/Lachi combination is a really big plus for Tissot.
Nice sprint team.
Yes, we are.
Too bad it did not pay off in the previous race, but let's see how this is going, having the overall after the first day.

Stage 2 is completed! It will be posted sometime tomorrow as I am too busy the remainder of tonight. Sorry if the reports are coming in slow but it is better for me this way to stay interested in it so I don't have to rush to get a stage every day!

Finally, things were starting to heat up. I saw a confrontation in the hallway, and it looks like we could have our first rivalry of the season. It started when cio93 was talking about the sprinters this season, and who was not stacking up to expectations like himself, in particular, jseadog1. Somehow, word got back to him, and he was not happy. They began arguing a bit and eventually things settled down, but it would be curious to see how the race went.
As far as the race itself. Tisot had better things to worry about for the time being, they held a significant advantage in the overall race right now, and they were excited about the opportunity to hold on to it. There is a few hilly parts to the next stage, so it will be exciting to see what comes out of it.
-~-~-~-~-~
The race was hovering around the same length as yesterday. Riders were relatively calm at the start but many were expecting this to be a stage like we haven't seen yet.
Things were relatively slow and calm at the beginning, with plenty of attempted attacks failing. Exxon & Celesio were out front doing the pacing.
Finally, riders were able to escape. It looks like Daggen,Ramme1, wagsrus, and Valor. They took the first sprint and that was settled.
This is where things get interesting. The peleton was having a good time when some trash talking started again. It was CitiGroup, and Tisot was trying to focus on catching the break who was 2:00 ahead. cio93 was having none of it, and 1 KM from the sprint line it was time. They were going to race. This is extremely rare I have never seen this in my day, the riders were gaining nothing, and it was the LEADER going hard early.
Here we go, 1vs1 sprint, and it was such a sight to see. jseadog1 edged out cio93 but just a few inches, but it didn't really matter. I did notice cio kind of keep quiet for the rest of the race.
Thats not why were here though. Silly battles like this, I hope they don't go on long. Celesio up front as the break is up 3:00. At 75km it was still 3:00.
As the race was over 3/4 done, it was Glanbia, Celesio, and Citigroup out front. With just 35km to go in the race, a 2:30 lead separated the break and the main pack.
As we approached the last mountain sprint, it was Daggen taking the top spot, but don't look pack. The peleton had only a 1:00 deficit to make up and 20km to do it. It was going to be quite a battle to the line.
All that was left was one final very steep climb to the finish. The break was gone with 5km to go, and it looks like we have an uphill attack! It is roturn putting the pedals in full motion. He powered up the hill, and he never looked back. Daggen had enough in the tank to stay out front and keep an edge for second, and Jesleyh was close to taking the spot. cio93 overtook a tired jseadog1 at the line who didn't even crack Top 15 in a stage he was a favorite in.

Very strange stage to say the least. roturn made a statement, jseadog1 made a statement, and cio93 made a statement. This race is far from over as it could turn out to be the most interesting race yet by far. Stay tuned for a stage 3 recap and review!
