Process of how this route was selected:
1) Utrecht picks it's few stages
2) Prudhomme gathers a list of why week 1 is interesting, then puts all of those anwers together
3) Prudhomme asks ASO for it's dream/favorite mountains and mountain stages
4) He puts all of these suggestions together
5) He shoots anyone who mentions the word "balance" or "competition" or "GC fight"
6) Tries to find more ways to get Cavendish another Green Jersey

The last half of the race looks good, but the other looks nothing like what describes Tour de France

Just like I was extremely excited last year after presentation of the cobbled stage, now I feel the same about cobbles, crosswinds and Huy - can't wait until July
Or at least please make it March now so I can watch some Flanders classics
I couldn't watch the presentation after Utrecht show, did they show some profiles of stages?

simple, a "british bonus" clause, where a stage points are quadrupled for all British riders |

@Cossack
They're all out there on the internet now. Check Le Tour's twitter feed, it was showing them.
Also Chris Froome is already saying he might do Giro-Vuelta! Smart man, now hope Brailsford lets him do it

The lack of ITTs.

Pussy move from Froome. But i get his thinking, cause the Giro route is perfect for him when you look at the profiles for the stages.
But given his shitty bike handling skills, and the sometimes, awfull weather in the Giro i think he might get in trouble there. |

+1 to both points.
More TTT kms than ITT is just absurd and just having 13km of ITT is ridiculous. Added to that it's 'balanced' by a Vuelta-esque overload of uphill finishes (5 MTFs + Cauterets which is a sort of Aprica + Mende + Murs de Bretagne and Huy so basically 9 uphill finishes of sorts). The Pyrenees might be decent (although Tourmalet again bleh...) but the Alps look terrible - two very short stages and one of them is just recycled from a few years ago.
is this FINALLY the GT for Purito to win?
Don't think so, in 2015 he will be too old for it.

Well, just when Andy retires, they reveal the route he always wanted.
Personally, I like the route from the little what I've heard though. So I'm not fully informed but the short mountain stages are always fun to follow and there might be some multi-mountain madness coming around too? Lack of ITT doesn't bother me too much. They may be an important discipline within cycling but mostly, they are just rather dull to follow. Cobblez and crosswinds are always amazing anyway, so I'm happy they go for it again this year. The rather late TTT is a bit confusing though.

hm, that's the point which I like, lack of ITT...I belive it could bring better battles for seconds in the mountains But I think this Tour have every kind of everything - cobbles, finishes like ardennes classics, mountains, steges with wind, ITT and TTT, what do you want more?
I believe it will be great Tour!
Thank you Andy for everything!

I'd disagree that it will generate more attacking in the mountains. With a long ITT or two Quintana, and other more pure climbers like Bardet/Pinot/Konig/Purito, would be forced into attacking to gain time back on the better tt'ers such as Contador/Froome/Nibali. Now all it does is scare the less good climbers away and reduce the need for attacking. Yes they need to attack, but if it's only for minor seconds then it will come late in the stage on the last climb near the top.... exactly the type of racing we bemoan in the Vuelta.
And more generally:
Can we shut up about crosswinds! Do you know how often crosswinds actually play a significant part in le Tour! It's really not often. We had Crosswinds (on a non-crosswind designed stage) in 2013 and in 2009 totaling about 1'40 of major time difference between them. The cobbles alone this year will make that difference.

ITT are simply part of a GT to me. It shouldn't be 21 mountain stages after all.
13km is just a joke.
Both for most of the fans and for the actual 'complete' stage-racers(like Wilco ).

Already saw that, but can only see the mountain stages + the cobbled one which of course will be no different than any other years, but eh said they were all there |

Well looks like Giro will once again hold all of my hopes of being the best GT of the season.

TTT on stage 9 means some teams might only have 6-7 riders left. Could play a big role for the GC riders.

I know they will not be deciding and cobbled stage might be crucial (God please give us rain again ), but just when some major teams start to use them then suddenly the flat stage becomes very interesting. In 2013 I couldn't watch Alpe d'Huez nor Annecy Semnoz live (think they were two best mountain stages of that TdF) and crosswind stage was definitely the best moment of TdF I watched live, even though in the end Contador's attempts were futile as he was just bad that year.
