Great to see Bozic and the Australian talent sign! I wonder what you can show us in the WC! |

sutty68 - He sure does. Glad we signed him otherwise he'd ride against us
admirschleck - He's back in TT it seems
The Hobbit - Yeah, I was quite surprised
Selwink - I meant Porte, of course. Thanks, changed it!
TimoCycling - I wonder myself. I'll race it later today!
Thanks for the support!! |

There is a crash at the World Championships. Can't seem to fix it
So I couldn't race it. I hope it won't happen again next year. Really too bad, also not good for the motivation.
So I'll be finishing the season now, getting to the next season always gives my motivation another little boost.
I really, really hope the WC problem won't happen again in 2015, otherwise it'd really suck! |

My season ended on a serious downer.
You probably noticed upon watching the World Championship Road Race that I wasn't there. There was some mistake in communication. It turned out Tim Wellens got the ninth spot. After all, he is a team mate to Van Den Broeck and he is certain to accept a serving role. I don't get it, I would've gone in a serving role, too. But okay, what's done is done.
Meanwhile, I was so let down I just wanted to end the season there. The team management motivated me to do one final race, just to end the season a bit better and not with a bad feeling. I went to Paris - Tours with the goal of riding podium.
Paris - Tours
This race is part of history. I would love to win this race one day!
Profile The route is quite flat, but there's a bump only 15 kilometers from the finish, might disrupt the lead-out!
As predicted, the little steep hill disrupted the lead-out trains. There was chaos.
Kittel launched his sprint and he just blasted away. He made us look like pathetic fools, trying to follow him!
And so he prevailed. But I finished 2nd. Behind Kittel, that's not bad at all!

If I look back on my first season for Orica - GreenEdge, I certainly can say it was a big success. I've achieved some great things here at the Australian team. A 2nd place in Wevelgem, a 2nd place in the Tour of Poland, a victory in Paris - Nice...
I can look forward to next year and hope I grow even stronger, turn those 2nd places in 1st places!
See you in the next year,
Matt |

The pace is just incredible and you still manage to keep the quality on the same level than your pace. Really impressive so far. Hope the second season will be equally interesting to follow.

We're halfway January 2015. Our team training camp is just behind us and once again it was an amazing experience. The new arrivals settled in perfectly and we're all ready for the new season.
It's that time of the year again, the Oceanic Championships.
Just like last year, we won't be happy without a Champion!

We can't really be happy with these results. Not the best start for our team. Let's hope for better at the Tour Down Under!
On another note, my provisional 2015 calendar has been released. The team started working with an online platform to share information, calendars, additional notes. We have to upload our training rides there too, for example.
February: I'll be starting my season in the Volta a Algarve (), where I will try to get into shape for the opening weekend in Belgium with the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad () - where I finished 12th last year - and Kuurne ().
March: The first race in March is the Strade Bianchi (), followed closely by Tirreno - Adriatico (). I'll be going there as the main sprinter! But my first real goal lays a few days later: Milan - Sanremo (). It's my first edition of La Primavera and I'm happy to be selected to race there. I hope to ride the finale.
Big Goal of 2015: Then it's on to my ultimate goal of 2015: the cobbled classics. The team management have noticed my results last year and I will be the absolute leader for all four races. So that's E3 - Harelbeke (), Gent - Wevelgem (), Ronde Van Vlaanderen () and Paris - Roubaix. () In between, I'll also tackle the Scheldeprijs (). After Paris - Roubaix, I might also start in the Amstel Gold Race (), but that's not certain yet.
June: After the classics, there's a long break from racing, just like last year. I felt I really needed it, so I'll need it again this year. I'll get back in competition in the Tour de Suisse (), folowed directly by the National Championships (). After my second place last year, I'm extremely motivated to do better this edition!
July: Last year, my season turned for the better in Austria, so the management decided to recreate my former schedule. It's from the Tour of Austria () to the Tour of Poland ().
The Rest of the Season? The rest is up for grabs. We'll see when we get there. One thing is for sure, though, the team management is very reluctant to send me to a Grand Tour. I turned 23 so I think I'm about ready, though.
Looking to this schedule, it seems they have chosen a moderate schedule. Not too many race days, in the hope that I stay fresh. This time I really want to go to the World Championships so I'll make sure to get noticed!
I'll see you in Portugal!

Volta a Algarve
The stage race in Portugal was my first race of the season. It's a late start but the management thought it might be better to peak properly for the cobbled classics.
The first two stages were flat, I managed to sprint to a 4th and a 2nd place. I was so close to my first victory of the season. But the form is good, so I'm not complaining.

Volta a Algarve: In Pictures Sprinting to a fourth place on day 1
The race organizers looked for the most beautiful spots in Portugal
Sprinting to a second place on day 2
Taking the lead before the decisive climb on day 3. Some good training with the eye on the Omloop
Albasini finshing our hard work on day 3
All in all, it was a beautiful race and a good warm up for the season
Santos Tour Down Under 1 | Rui Costa | Lampre - Merida | 17h54'06 | 2 | Michele Scarponi | Astana Pro Team | + 28 | 3 | Ryder Hesjedal | Garmin Sharp | + 33 | 4 | Daniel Moreno | Team Katusha | + 49 | 5 | Robert Kiserlovski | Trek Factory Racing | + 54 | 6 | Tim Wellens | Lotto Belisol | + 1'04 | 7 | Rigoberto Urán | Movistar Team | s.t. | 8 | Igor Antón | Trek Factory Racing | + 1'06 | 9 | Sergio Henao | Omega Pharma - Quick·Step Cycling Team | + 1'09 | 10 | Simon Gerrans | Orica GreenEdge | + 1'11 |
We're at 2 victories, where last year at this point we almost had 10 victories already, including a Championship and the Tour Down Under. The team has taken a tougher start. It's up to us to bounce back and make the season even better!
The Tour of Oman was a first test for Porte. He finished 2nd, behind Rui Costa!
I must admit I'm getting tired of second places. With the Omloop coming up, I think it's about time to change those 2nd places into victories!
See you there,
Matt

Already 2015
Great last season, little different start in 2015 but the team will come quick to the wins.. good signings for the team, pity that Matthias had to skip La Vuelta and missed the WRR but this year will be another story..
