A little bit later, Hoogerland wins the riders sprint, while Quintana arrives with some lead onto Group Nibali at the finish but gets awarded the same time. Movistar officials are...not happy about that.
These fucking motherfuckers from the new UCI. They are absolutely worthless. If that wasnt a fucking clear gap than I eat my fucking hat. It's enough now. The old UCI was already bad with all their fucking doping participation and protection but the new one is thousand time worse. The riders dont dope anymore but they just give some fucking dollars to these shitty squintwillies and they are giving fucking Nibbles the same time. It is completely surprising that fucking Harald Totschnig does not lead the point classification because of some new rule. But perhaps the Austrians are just not rich enough to pay those dumb as sausage sandwich idiots called UCI. Thisrace is fucking ended for me. No shit races I have. You can give me punishment anytime you want or ban us please. Dont want to race which ended for me.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Hmm Kelderman keeps trying, but little result so far. Good to see Argos winning again, they needed it
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

It's so similiar. Geschke: King of Rainy Breakaways in Italy
@knockout: Understandable reaction. Hopefully Quintana will put in similiar performances in the mountains to come and then I'd like to see how the UCI/RCS will just justify it then.
It's mountain stage day and whith Easter monday we just have the best slot available. Lots of viewership hopefully. I'll plan to do two today.

Hopefully Pellizotti can do something in these upcoming mountain stages. And that some average climbers will be dropped from high up in the GC.

Hmm one day Kreuziger will have to tag on to one of these 30 second-gaining attacks if he wants to make sure of that top 5 spot.

Stage 10
The first real mountain stage of this year’s Giro comes on the 10th day and it doesn’t mess around. We head up the Passo Casson di Lanza at first and then take on Altopiano del Montasio. It’s a relatively short stage but the long, flat way to Tolmezzo favors a breakaway to get as much time as possible onto the peloton in hopes to defend the lead over the mountains. Of course, there can be attacks from the GT contenders to be expected with everything still up for grabs. However, due to yesterday’s stage, Nibali, Betancur and Hesjedal once more gained time onto the other contenders and this may put them into a favourable tactical position today.
The initial Break of the Day includes Sörensen (TST), Capecchi (MOV), Vrecer (EUS), Bakelants (RTL), Sarmiento (CAN) and Battaglin (BAR). So some jerseys that have been already very active, while teams like TST and Movistar may want to use their riders as a relais station later on. Their lead is solid at 4 minutes, but they’ll need to get more time if they want to be successful.
6 minutes up and the bad weather conditions of the Giro are showing themselves, while Sarmiento passes the intermediate sprint as first. Nobody bothered much with the sprint, they are all eager for the climbs.
With Androni, FDJ and BMC helping Astana’s chasing effort, the lead decreases to around 4 minutes. The guys up front ain’t too happy about that but the conditions for breakaways may not be the best today. The peloton meanwhile sees an attack by Giampaolo Caruso (KAT) and Ivan Santamorita (BMC).
Caruso (KAT) is already up there in the break, Wout Poels (VCD), Niemiec (LAM) and Santamorit (BMC) are set to join in. Vacansoleil had some great success so far in the second week with two podiums and currently holding the Magla Azzurra with Hoogerland. From a third to a second place, may Poels complete today the sweep by taking first? The peloton, lead by Astana, has increased its pace nonetheless and is down 2 minutes onto Group Poels. Many riders have dropped in the field, including Uran.
Break of the day gets lead by Caruso to the mountain top of Passo Canzon di Lanza. The sprint up top is won by Santamorita ahead of Sörensen and Bakelants. Caruso and Vrecer got points too. They head into the descent with merely 3 minutes lead. Bakelants’ teammate Cancellara is already dropped and is likely to lose his Top 10 place. Granted, this was something we knew would happen today.
Androni is dominating the chase effort right now with 6 riders ready to help their riders. This is where their strong climbing prowess comes into play. Nordhaug works for Kelderman, while Casar is at the front of the peloton and showing his colours for a rather anonymous FDJ so far.
With 20 kilometers to go now, the break is heading right into today’s finale. Their lead is below 2 minutes, hardly that will be enough. Capecchi was advised to not to any work anymore, a clear sign that Movistar once more want to attack. There’s been some controversy after yesterday’s time decision against their favor. Today’s stage is clearly a stage set up for Quintana though, so we hope they still are watching.
Surprisingly, Capecchi is the first to attack though! This may be a decision based upon the nearing peloton and to keep ahead of them until Quintana attacks, but not so much a move for the win?
Kreuziger meanwhile attacks at the foot of the Altopiano del Montasio. Maybe the gradient is too low to get away though? He’s marked by the Maglia Rosa itself. Betancur, Evans and Kelderman are there too. Quintana and Kiserlovski are the last to have made the jump. Porte, Geniez, Hesjedal and Ulissi are close by.
Kreuziger’s attack pushed the favourites right into the breakaway, where Poels and Santamorita react by attacking from far out. Both of them quickly get up to Capecchi, but they are unlikely to stand a chance against Capecchi’s teammate:
Quintana attacks! 9.6 kilometers for him to the top. Nibali is currently deemed to do the chasing until teammates come back up front. The group consists right now of 25 riders. All contenders are in there.
With an attack by Poels, the group has be constanly aware. Kreuziger is fast enough to stay at Betancur and Nibali’s wwheel, with Porte and Hesjedal always eager to not let them get away. Evans is meanwhile riding his own pace and distancing many of his competitors. Trofimov on his wheel looks wasted. Up front is Poels, who got dropped by Nibali’s attack. Pellizotti is there following Hesjedal and Kiserlovski.
With Quintana 6 kilometers from the finish it looks like this:
Nibali trying to drop Betancur, while Quintana is riding away like Flash. Hesjedal, Porte and Kreuziger are trying hard to get back, while Evans leads a group of other climbers towards them. Kelderman, Scarponi and Basso back in the peloton already with some distance.
It’s the pure stage hunger as Quintana flies up the mountain. It almost looks easy, he’s pedaling in an unique rhythm and he’s stellar performance what could have been possible. Once more. He’s destroying it today, while Nibali is looking to drop Betancur, who may be surprising some people. Betancur doesn’t help Nibali in the chasing effort, maybe to help his fellow Colombian?
Basso is leading Kelderman and Scarponi, however they have about a minute down onto Group Porte. Trofimov, Poels and Geniez up ahead couldn’t hold up with them either.
With attacks they try to close the gap, but Basso may have overdone himself now. Kelderman is in the last place of this 5 man group and we’ll have to fight to keep his great GC place.
Evans is now grinding his teeth as all the other riders feel the pain and look with their heads down, just praying this climb will be over at some point. Evans needs to drop this guys now and we’ll return with a flying manager on his back, right into GC contention again.

2.5 kilometers and for Betancur it’s all about hanging onto Nibali’s wheel. They have 30 seconds on Group Porte and that is a good start in the mountains, but unlikely enough yet. Quintana meanwhile is a minute up front.
We see it from here, the last kilometer… but it’s a long way to there. Evans has dropped almost everybody and he’s really doing great today. Only Nibali and Betancur up front are faster than him. And of course, Quintana… who’s just gun-blazing, berserk-style, unbeatable.
There's some relief there to be felt. From the rider, from the team. It's the clear sign, that some things in world are just fix. And Quintana being the presumably best mountain goat is (luckily for Movistar) one of those things. With today's performance he moves right into the Top 10 and 7'40 down on Nibali, who's to say he can fight for the podium still? It'd be the comeback of the year surely. For now, Quintana can claim the Maglia Azzura at least. However, while some things won't change, some things fortunately do, at least for BMC manager.
Evans rode a smart, energy-conserving energy and is the rider closest to Betancur and Nibali, while also having dropped Porte and Kreuziger. This seems him closer to the aspired Top 5, but he has still some time to catch up on. The GC sees some changes, with Cancellara and Gerrans dropping out in harsh manner and especially OGE facing the mountaineous, reality that vanishes their Top 15 ambitions for now. Meanwhile, Betancur has been the only rider able to hold onto Nibali so far. There's a fight for the positions behind him and the Nibali foreshadowing might already come true in week 2.

Off all riders that could have gone in the break today why Vrecer
Anyway good to see that de las Campos seems to be getting over his injury so perhaps we will see something from him in the mountains after all.

Hang in there Wilco!
I'll officialy start cheering for Quintana now, he's definitely going to move in front of Kelderman, so he can go all the way!
Brouwer still not looking good. Still hoping he recovers for the next flat stages
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

That was an aggressively raced mountain stage! Big gaps there but good to see Kreuziger mixing it with the favourites and gaining some time on people like Hesjedal. Bit scared of Quintana though...

Pretty decent there from Pellizotti. Admittedly he is weaker than the other Top 10 GC Contenders. So a nice 8th at the moment. Will go ahead of Kelderman but he needs to stop losing 2 minutes on Mountain stages.
Lol 6 riders chasing, bloody let Astana and that chase...
