At the Vuelta maybe. He did shit at least year's Tour except for winning that final mountain stage because Froome wasn't allowed to drop Wiggins. |

Having two crashes in the first week kinda helped no? |

That mountain stage win was extremely impressive as well.
Plus, if anything, he was in form for the Vuelta, and proved he's still a great GC rider there. Thats good enough for me.

I don't believe in porte i the top 5, partly because he is going to work for Froome and partly because there's so many good captains there. I Think that the top 5 would look like something like this:
1. Froome
2. Contador
3. RodrÃguez
4. Van den Broeck
5. Valverde
Van den Broeck always gets 4th
I wonder why so many people have Valverde as favourite for top 3/ top 5 though.
Van Den Broeck:
Well Van Den Broeck is a decent climber and timetrialist + it's extremely rarely to see him having an of-day in the Tour de France. so of course he is a top contender for the top 4. maybe even a podium at some time ;
Valverde:
Valverde had a good season last year. he started good in australia. did ok in Paris - Nice. then won a stage in the Tour de France, but didn't do that well in the GC. And last he did really good in the Vuelta, where he could have won if he didn't have that insident on one of the ealry stages.
p.s. sorry for the bad english... |

My podium this year: Froome, J-Rod and Valverde.
Contador does see to be ageing in my eyes and looked weaker than the other Spaniards in the Vuelta last year on the big stuff. He won it with tactics, not with strength. Could be wrong though
On Valverde, I think he will get a podium spot because he has great support from riders like Costa and Quintana. The route suits him, with plenty of mountainous stuff where he can stay with the best, as shown in last year's Vuelta. He can TT alright as well.
Also, Froome has said himself that Valverde, J-Rod and Contador are his biggest challengers with TvG and talansky also likely to be up there. |

He's not much worse as Contador or Froome on climbs. He used to have problems avoiding crashes in the Tour. And sometimes had a bad day. But he has been claiming since right before his ban he no longer has troubles with bad weather and that bad day so should be close. And he wasn't far off in the Vuelta last year. Really the closest guy to Froome and Contador imo

I still doubt he'll make it into the top 5. Top 10 is definitelly possible but not top 5. In a month we'll see who's right.
Oh, and for all clarity, I didn't doubt VdB's chances. He's a very consistant rider and even though he wasn't very good in the Dauphiné, he'll find some way to be very good at the Tour. |

I'm curious to see who'd you rate higher as Valverde?

Sure Contador won the Vuelta on tactics last year. he didn't have the team to make the rest of the favourites tired, so therefor he attacked early, which payed of.
this year he could have the best climbing team in the Tour (Roche, Rogers, Kreuziger, Hernandez) + plus he will be protected a lot better on the flat stages (tosatto, Noval), so i think that he is going to save a lot of energy before he attacks with full strengh.. |

Here's my top 10;
1. Froome
2. Contador
3. Rodriguez (if he won't have a bad day like in the Vuelta)
4. Tejay Van Garderen ( I know he wasn't convincing in Suisse, but I'll think he'll be good in the Tour)
5. Jurgen Van den Broeck
6. Alejandro Valverde (see? I still gave him 6th place, it's not that I don't have any trust in him)
7. Thibaut Pinot
8. Pierre Roland
9. Richie Porte
10. Bauke Mollema
I must say that my last Tour prediction was pretty allright, but on the other hand my Giro one sucked so we'll see. It's pretty hard consiering that there're probably 20 riders that're able to reach top 10, so it's all up on who doesn't crash or will have a bad day. I didn't include Quintana because I don't know how much he'll have to work for Valv and how good he recuperates a three weeks race. |

Team Katusha
Joaquin Rodriguez
Daniel Moreno
Alberto Losada
Aleksander Kuschinsky
Pavel Brutt
Gatis Smukulis
Yuri Trofimov
Aleksander Kristoff
Eduard Vorganov
I'm not entirely sold on this team. Trofimov will need to reach his top form again which seems unlikely after the Giro. Kuschinsky and Vorganov will have an important role on the flat stages. Will lose a lot of time in the TT.
Had expected Gusev and especially Spilak to make it. But Spilak has been racing a lot already, might be good not to burn him out again.

Kristoff might be able to sneak into a lot of top 10's, and has one or two stages that favour him. |

Good decision not to include Spilak in the team, imo. Better to let him go for results of his own in other races than use him as a domestique for Purito.
I would've picked Florencio or Gusev over Trofimov, though. Anyway, as long as he still feels fresh from the Giro, it should be fine.

He was injured or ill, iirc. |
