17th May 2011 - Amgen Tour of California
(Auburn - Modesto)
Stage 3 has Mass Sprint written all over it. Downhill from the word go, there is not even a Mountain Sprint along the route. Today, it is all about the stage victory.
15km: Five riders got away at the start of the stage, the notable being Jack Bauer (Endura).
36km: The break's size grew to 17, and that was clearly far too dangerous for the peleton to let go, and it was soon brought back.
55km: The pace settled down, as no more attacks went off the front. The American broadcasters saw this as a nice opportunity to show off some nice scenic views.
73km: Approaching the second Intermediate Sprint point, two riders went off the front, with the peleton happy to let them go.
96km: Two more riders joined the break, and they slowly built up a lead of 5'11". With that, it was time to up the chase, and I instructed Danny, Peter and Craig to the front.
180km: With around 10km left, the break was caught, and as predicted, it would end in a sprint finish. Tony hit the front, with the HTC train at full gas.
189km: As the sprint started, Sky looked again to have the prime position. Ben Swift did a superb job dropping Boasson Hagen at the front. Could today be the day he tastes victory...?
191km: Afraid not!! For the second stage running, I come around EBH in the finishing straight to take the win. Victory number 2 in California, and number 8 of the season!

Gonna be tough to keep it. There are 2 hilly stages, 1 mountain and a ITT to come before the final flat stage to finish.

He struggled on the stage up Etna, and despite taking time out of Anton, he lost time to Evans and slipped to 4th on GC

18th May 2011 - Amgen Tour of California
(Livermore - San Jose)
After two stages on the flat, the route head back towards the mountains, and the teams focus is back on Tejay.
With 21 KoM points also on offer today, we feel that Craig could really make the jersey his own, and will look to extend his lead in that classification.
Vincenzo Nibali soloed to victory in San Jose, breaking away from his GC rivals on the 7km climb to the finish. Tejay finished 7th on the stage, 2'01" behind Nibali with his GC hopes in shreds.
