- Hey, what's the name of that guy who won the ToC?
- Uhm, no idea, I heard something about a Peter Sagan fella winning lots there.
- OK, that must be it.

They've done it again:
Portugal names three for 2012 London Olympics
Costa, Oliveira and Cardoso to represent Iberian nation
Three riders will represent Portugal at the 2012 London Olympics: Rui Costa, Nelson Oliveira and Manuel Cardoso. All three will ride the road race, with Oliveira also riding the time trial.
The Portuguese Cycling Federation announced the line-up on Wednesday. Bruno Pires of Saxo Bank and Sergio Paulinho (RadioShack-Nissan) are the reserve riders.

Also this was the article's photo of Manuel Cardoso

I'm sure some of you will have seen this but I thought I'd link it here:

I didn't see any of the Giro but read what you were writing each day about the stages and the whole race. Some of the thigs he raises were things you guys wrote about.
What do you think? |

At risk of a knee jerk reaction but...play jokers, really?
Maybe if they included Bruce Forsyth at the stage start handing out a 6 foot playing card to the team leader to carry for the duration of the stage then I might go for it... |

Just to respond here,
1: I am not sure how much have more ITT makes a difference, obviously it favors those better rounded riders, I personally think it makes things more interesting as it forces the elite climbers that are not good time trialists to attack the climbs (which I want to see).
2: I think the climbs should be mixed, a GT generally has about 5ish big mountain stages, how about 2 of them are ~200km with 4 big climbs, and 3 of them are ~120 with only one or two big climbs.
3: I don't really care, I don't follow cycling so well that the Strade Bianche routes would be noticeable to me.
4: Please tell me they are joking about the jokers. Get rid of time bonus's entirely in Grand Tours.
5: The points classification should be for the sprinters, if riders like Gilbert and such start taking this jersey on routine the world class sprinters will stop going to the races. If they don't go, the flat stages are pointless.
6: Much like my answer on #2, mix it up, have about half of the sprint finishes be technical and the other half be straight and open.

You mean the Colombia/Columbia mess or that it's Duarte instead of Betancur?

And then people complain about 100 km of ITT in a three weeks race. Pussies. |

From Twitter :
@Cyclingnewsfeed
Hannes Genze and Andreas Kloden win stage 6 of the TransAlp while Alban Lakata and Robert Mennen take over the GC. https://t.co/4gUplDON
No wonder Klöden doesn't do to well in the Tour de France. Riding other races while taking part in TDF is too much for one man, no matter how talented he is. |
