Good to see Sweden! Played smart and were effective when the chances came! Always fun to take part in big tournaments! |

Turkey - Croatia
Rep. Ireland - Estonia
Czech Republic - Montenegro
Bosnia - Portugal
Bosnia again. Tricky opponent. Hope Pepe and Coentrão don't get injured again, Pjanic and Dzeko are very dangerous... |

Damn, the four teams I would like to have at the EC the most (TUR, CRO, BIH, POR) play against each other... A lot of waisted potential for nice matches at the actual championships.

Portugal and the Czech Republic won't make it I think, the 'rising stars' in European Football, Bosnia and Montenegro will surprise them I think. Turkey - Croatie can go either way, Croatia has more individual quality but Turkey at home is always a tough cookie. Ireland seems to have the easiest opponent but Estonia beat out Slovenia and Serbia for their playoff spot so they should be no walkover and somehow I think Ireland are the kind of team that could screw up against a team like Estonia like Turkey did in 2004 against Latvia.

Czechs were pretty lucky in the draw, let's see how they will cope with Vucinic and Jovetic.
My predictions (very hard in playoff, not a typical game) would be:
Turkey - Croatia
Rep. Ireland - Estonia
Czech Republic - Montenegro
Bosnia - Portugal

I still remember the Turkey-Croatia of the EURO2008. Great match, extremely unfair with the Croatians. I think Turkey, Eire, Montenegro and Portugal will go through.

Paulo Bento is a total douche sometimes. He keeps Bosingwa away from the squad... again... And then he says João Pereira and Silvio have better conditions to play than Bosingwa...

Portugal draw 0-0 with Bosnia. Good result, having in mind the fantastic Bosnian supporters and the terrible pitch conditions. I'm sorry but I've seen amateur club stadiums with a better pitch. Now, it's important to stay focused, and not conceed a goal, that would make the team more nervous, I think. |

not a qualifying match but England beat Spain last night to prove they aren't as unbeatable as people seem to believe.
Spain simply couldn't get past Englands deffence and apart from Fabregas missing a sitter in the last minute Spain didn't force Hart into a single meaningful save.
Looking forward to the English media now getting overexcited and expecting us to win the Euro's next year |

That was one of the most fortuitous victories I've seen. Mind you, England defended and pressed very well off the ball, but just like every England side they are incapable of keeping posession. And especially without Wilshere and Rooney, this side has 0 creativity. Methinks Parker and Wilshre being fit for the Euros will be absolutely key to England doing well. |

I wouldn't say it was fortuitous. Spain dominated the possession but had 1 shot on target all game which shows how well England defended.
If Spain had 10/15 shots on target and we won 1-0 then you could call it good luck.
England had a game plan and stuck to it and Spain didn't like it as there count of yellow cards in the second half showed.
Of course Spain were the better team on the night. But England showed that if you defend well then Spain will struggle to break you down like any other team. Spain seem to lack an out and out striker who they can turn to if they are in a position like last night.
Of course they are still massive favourites for next summer, but at least England have shown they aren't unbeatable.

The way I saw it, ok, England did well defensively, but were overwhelmed by Spain possession-wise to the point that they could hardly get out of their own half. So to not concede was surprise enough, but to somehow find a goal at the other end (though not one in open play unsurprisingly) was pretty lucky in my opinion. My point is, England aren't far away from being a very good team, but they just lack creative players and players who can retain possession. So we shouldn't believe that this kind of result can be pulled of regularly. |
