Classics Fantasy Game 2023
Ollfardh
Vermeersch got overtaken in the last km and Thijssen crashed just before that. Nys and Mayrhofer (in Italy) both worked for a teammate. Probably losing my lead to the Hussars now.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Ulrich Ulriksen
Not much happening for us. Vanmarcke was almost in a winning attack at Nokere and held on for 6th, was the only highlight.
Man Game: McCormick Pro Cycling

Nokere was the first win for Tim Merlier and the Grandmas (now that's a band I'd love to see), which they really needed. Add Bouhanni in Italy and they scored the most points yesterday, which means they are in the upper half of the rankings for now.

The second place from the Tulips with Theuns and a 10th made them the best Nokere Team though, and this doubled their point total. The Led Lanterns got a 3rd place from their star rider Menten, also enough points to jump to 3rd place.

In Torino we had once again an undrafted rider beat us all. Shame, shame, shame! Ring-Ring! The Hussars got second place though, which is enough to take the lead for now. Nokere definitely the better scoring race of the two.

Reminder to get your block 4 startlists in by tomorrow morning!

So, we have another undrafted winner today. That means out of the 12 races so far, we didn't get the winner in 6 (5 undrafted + 1 unselected). With our combined 206 riders, I think we should collectively feel bad Sad

Sanremo startlists are almost complete, really making me think at the moment.

Three sprinters, thereof the defending champion, zero points today. That game is going just as shitty for me as MG right now. Looks like I just drafted tons of regressing riders, who were good last year and are worth nothing in 2023. At least Walscheid, Welten and Page are perfect fits for that category.

At least there's an additional rider on the MSR startlist, so there's an update:

Not a single WT race in this one, but some big CT races could have had a big impact. Except they didn't. There were 3 winners and in total 8/12 podium spots missed. This resulted in poor scoring overall and very few ranking changes.

The Hussars were one of the happy few that scored well, only in Torino though, but it's enough to put them on the top of the rankings. The Paladins are in second but will miss their star rider in Sanremo. The Red Lanterns claim the final podium spot by unleashing Menten, and will be unleashing Pogacar next!

This means the 59'ers drop to 4th, but still within range of the lead. The Fainthearts couldn't close the gap to the top 4, and even have to look behind them, as a lot of teams are closing in on them. The Grandmas were the best team of the round, but also have problems for Sanremo.

The W are next, also winning a few spots after a decent round. The Hornets once again show their depth by scoring everywhere this round, and even better, Wout is ready to race! The Nosepickers didn't have the best round and drop down a few spots.

At the bottom, the Tulips double their points. The Wolves also had a good round with some smaller names. The Cobblers are avoiding last place for now, as Mclay narrowly saved the Bombers from a zero pointer. Still last, under 100 point total and Matthews out, it's not looking good for them.

Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

I picked the right guy with Thijssen, as Vermeersch stopped to check on Campenaerts after that bad crash, Dekker sprinted to 21st and Nys got lost on a roundabout Grin

Guess I made some pretty wrong decisions... Picking Page instead of Thijssen, picking Walscheid instead of Ackermann... Lots of lost points so far. Congrats, Ollfardh, that guy made some huge progress this year!

That said, I'm by no means unhappy with Welsford. If the team gets their job done, Sam is always in the mix and a regular Top 5 finisher by now. I just hope Criquielion won't be his only classics win this year Pfft

cunego59
Mohoric in 8th as the best rider at MSR isn't ideal, but Ackermann in 2nd at Bredene Koksijde and Zingle winning Loire Atlantique is pretty nice! If Zingle gets another good result tomorrow at the GP Cholet, it could be a good block. Fab with Ganna and Welsford probably also on a good path.

Knowing Neilson Powless has become a top tier puncheur is the only thing tat helps me sleep at night.

Guess that's our best monument result so far - Pedersen took 6th in MSR and 8th in RvV last year - 2nd place definitely isn't bad for a R14 pick Grin Definitely didn't expect Ganna to beat WvA in a head-to-head sprint, fantastic result for him. But well done by VdP as well - fending off that trio of Ganna, Van Aert and Pogacar is just a masterpiece of cycling!

Otherwise, Welten got something like 8 points from being a useless teammate of a podium rider, but it definitely looks like he lost his sprinter position this year. But he still got more points in this block than R1 pick De Lie, pretty bad result for Lotto to get no more than a 16th place with both De Lie and Ewan present in MSR. Bissegger and Bilbao were completely anonymous, and Rota wasn't even in my lineup (no points lost, though).

Now let's tackle some cobbles - I guess it's gonna be the Lotto sprinters plus Ganna mainly, plus maybe Welsford or Bissegger. Hoping to score better than last year in those races!

Ollfardh
The Hussars getting the win is big obviously, but I do feel it's still all within range because the rest of the top 10 was very divided. Ranking update and block 5 (starts on wednesday) preview coming tomorrow!

Block 4 results

Rounf of applause for everyone! Not only did we win all 4 races this block, Milan - Sanremo also broke the point record of last year's Ronde Van Vlaanderen by 25 points!

Koksijde had good scoring from the Paladins, 59'ers and Fainthearts, recovering a bit of the losses from the previous block. In the French classics The Wolves dominated with a very strong Laurence Pithie, with again the 59'ers scoring a bit.

But who am I kidding, all of us were here for Sanremo! The Hussars won the race, though it was their only scoring of the round. Pointwise, the best team were the Cobblers though, with great team depth and 5/8 of their riders scring points in this race.

For the rankings this means the Hussars defend their lead. Having the two best scoring riders helps of course. The 59'ers scored points everywhere and take back the second place, meaning the Paladins drop to 3rd, although the gap is really small.

The Red Lanterns are 4th, but need to look behind them as the Fainthearts were the best scoring team this round and close the gap to the top 4. The Hornets are still the best of the rest, but behind them the cobblers shoot up the rankings thanks to their San Remo performance. The W are right behind them though.

As good as block 3 was for the Grandma's, block 4 was equally bad. Bouhanni barely saves them from a 0 pointer. The Nosepickers had to settle for assist points, but 60 is pretty good there. The Wolves scored well in the French races but really need to get their selections in, as they lost quite a bit of Sanremo points.

At the bottom, the Bombers scored just enough to get rid of the last place. That unfortunate honour goes to the Tulips, who are really suffering as Girmay simply isn't performing as well as last season.
