Here it is, the first National Championship-race where we can make a difference. (The German ITT has been.)
We only had one participant, Malori. Malori is starting to get in shape, so hopefully we can make a podium. Actually, Malori is listed as one of the 3-stars favourite.
The profile is flat, as usual when it comes to an ITT NC. It is a good thing for Malori that it is flat, 'cause he isn't the best to climb
He took off very late, that was an advantage too. But still, he opened controlated, beeing 22 seconds off the pace of Ballan to the first intermediate time.
It was close to expected, because he still wasn't at his very limit. But he rode as fast as he dared and at the last time check, he was only 12 seconds behind Sestili, who also leaded at the finished.
Malori finished great, crushing Sestili with 33 seconds on the last kilometres, and deservedly getting the Italian Individual Time Trial Champion-jersey
A great ride from Malori. I forgot to export, so here's a screenshot of the resultlist. His first time at the podium in his professional career for Maxbo!

In Russia we had Maxim Belkov at the start line, he was aiming for a top15 spot, as there was som good riders here, Karpets, Menchov, Gusev....
Belkov started late, and when he did start, it was Karpets that had the lead through the first and second time check.
Through the final time check, Belkov was 11th, only 9 seconds behind 10th, he was now aiming for a top10 spot.
And yes, he took 10th, 1 second ahead of 11th, he had proved himself that he's a decent timetrialer, and he is still young.
Karpets took the win, very deservedly.

The Spanish Individual Time Trial was next up, and we had a good cance of winning it with Valverde. We actually had 4 competitors, as we have 3 young Spaniards.
Ruben Plaza from Caisse took off early and sat a good pace, he ended 4th, 58 seconds behind.
The big favourite, Jose Ivan Gutierrez went even faster, he was the winner of the day. He got a great pace, and took the jersey very deservedly.
Valverde was very good-going through the first time check, he was only 7 second off the pace of Gutierrez, and he catched his twominute-man with more than 30km to go, maybe he could set up a fight for the win?
No, he couldn't. Through the second time check, it was clear that Valverde had opened a bit too hard, and he lost a lot of seconds. He was suddenly 1'13 off the pace of Gutierrez, and the win seemed safe.
Valverde had to do what he could to safe his podium, and he did, ending third. Good result from Valverde!

The Spanish Road Race Championship is a race that suits Valverde well. But we need help from other teams if we are going to win it. Valverde has no "real" team mate, like Rodriguez Oliver (Caisse) and Samuel Sanchez (Euskaltel). But hopefully Valverde will make it on his own, he is in great form, 92 fitness points.
There is a big break, including two riders from Andalucia Cajasur. Hopefully some other teams will reel them back.
They wasn't reeled in, but thanks to a hard-working Caisse-team, the peloton was at a "good-enough" distance. And with 50 kilometres to go Garate gave it a real go. Nearly all the others favourites followed, so Valverde had no choice.
Valverde showed in the attack that he was one of the strongest of the favourites, riding himself to the front of the attackers. He was together with David Blanco (SDV), Garate from Astana, Ruben Perez from Rabobank and Eduardo Gonzalo from Agritubel. They co-operated well, and managed to keep boys like Rodriguez Oliver at a decent distance.
Back in the peloton, Saunier Duval worked very hard. Very surprising as they had Blanco in front. Probably they were aiming for a mass sprint which would favourite Fran Ventoso?
Valverde was very strong today. With 37 kilometres to go, he tried a little accelaration. The others couldn't follow his attack, and he was alone!
But they catched him, and they couldn't co-operate after Valverdes attack. Samuel Sanchez and Rodriguez Oliver took their chance and closed the gap up to the front group (except of the breakaway, but they will be catched).
With 17 kilometres Valverde again accelarated, and this time it worked. It was only Rodriguez and Sanchez that could follow, and they catched the breakaway with 10 kilometres left.
But 5 kilometres away from the finish line David Blanco had done a great job, catching Valverde & co. And he attacked immediately! Only Valverde and Sanchez could follow.
Valverde had to take the lead in the sprint, and he decided to open the sprint early as he was the best sprinter of them.
And Valverde distanced them in the sprint, and they didn't have any chance.
And yes, Valverde could celebrate, he was a fully deserved winner of the Championship 2008. He was on his own against strong teams, and he attacked a lot, and took the sprint in the end.

That's a very good question.....I haven't started the TdF, so I haven't seen it Hopefully it looks nice.
And that championship is one of the most funny races I've played on PCM. I felt it was close to real, I actually attacked several times, not only one long, outstanding attack |

As a result of a sudden will, I have thrown my exam book for my exam on Monday away, found the PCM-CD and started to play again
And as a result of that, here comes a preview of my squad for Tour de France 2008.
Valverde is our clear number 1 captain. No doubts. His excellent skills at those short climbs will hopefully prove useful in his mission for a podium place in Paris. Otherwise, he has been ona training camp for timetrialing, you might say it's doping, but I think a TT stats of 76 is more likely to the real Valverde. Even if he has a very bad Tour he will be capable of doing our sponsors happy, the sponsor goal is top 10 overall, and a stage win. Top 10 will be easy, stage win will be harder, but we'll see.
We have brought two excellent helpers for Valverde in Pliuschin and Steensen. They will hopefully be so strong that they can be up with Valverde on the hardest stages, defending our pride in Team Maxbo Bianchi's first ever Tour de France. Steensen was company to Valverde on the training camp, and might be able to go for a stage win in a prologue/time trial. Hopefully Steensen will reach a stats-boost, then he will be ready for the Vuelta later.
Our leader in the Ardennes will also be here, but this time as a helper for his best helper in the Ardennes. Hopefully he will turn out to be a great helper on the hills, and maybe he can go for a stage win. Konovalovas is also looking for a stats-boost as he will reach full experience in the Tour.
As we are a norwegian ProTour team, I felt we had to bring some norwegian vikings with us. We brought Gunnerud, he is already a decent helper in the mountains, and he is still young. Nordhaug also got a place in our squad, thanks to his fantastic Paris-Roubaix. He will be our most important helper at the flat stages.
We also brought two Americans. David Zabriskie will be our road-captain, and hopefully a strong team mate, he definately has the experience to do a good job. Our super-super talented TTer Phinney also got a place. He will be important on the flat stages, and he might take the opening prologue?
Finally, we brought Pervis. His TT-stats says it all. He is probably second best in the world on flat, quite short TTs. But he lacks the other stats to be a superior TTer, but hopefully he will gain useful experience in Tour de France.
-----------------------------
Sit back and enjoy Tour de France 2008, this time with Team Maxbo Bianchi as a part of the show
