Kelderman with some Jekyll and Hyde performance with an utter disappointment in Euskal Bizikleta and some brilliant racing in Torino. So i guess there is only one constant: Paprstka is awesome!
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

@Nemolito: Well he showed it this time. Hasn't been the case on most other occasions this season! But I'll take that one for sure
@knockout: Paprstka really is awesome! Him and Keinath have been the most consistent all season and have made up for the inconsistency elsewhere. There's a theme to those two as well with regards to where they came to us from

Wilco gets a much deserved win!!
It wasn't fun reporting on him at Euskal, but I guess lessons for the future. On the other hand Keinath and Paprstka have been awesome for you throughout the season
You look set for automatic promotion

@redordead: Yeah Wilco did well there. Keinath and Paprstka have been incredible really, given the competition.
@hillis: Agree with the first part. Not so sure about the second Only in particular races perhaps.
The last month is here. We're very close to our goal now and look secured for promotion. The goal for this month is to try and push those above us as hard as possible.
Rider | Role | Bert Van Lerberghe | Leader | Michel Kreder | Domestique | Tomas Paprstka | Free Role | Jasper Bovenhuis | Domestique | Gorazd Per | Domestique | Jefferson Cepeda Hernandez | Domestique | Marten Kooistra | Domestique |
After a good performance in Lillestrom, we have similar high hopes in this race. We realize that the profile might not suit our rider as much as the last race, but we still expect a good performance. Expectation: Top 10
Watch Out For: Jasper Bovenhuis
Rider | Role | Wilco Kelderman | Leader | Calvin Watson | Domestique | Romain Bardet | Domestique | Jasper Bovenhuis | Domestique | Michael Storer | Domestique | Cristian Scaroni | Domestique | Jefferson Cepeda Hernandez | Domestique | Ide Schelling | Domestique |
Kelderman pulled up his socks in Milano Torino and comes into this race in good form. The profile is similar to Izola, where Kelderman won earlier in the year. We expect a good race but we don't expect a repeat of the last one. Expectation: Top 5
Watch Out For: Wilco Kelderman
Rider | Role | Igor Boev | Leader | Calvin Watson | Domestique | Tom Dumoulin | Time Trial | Joonas Henttala | Domestique | Ide Schelling | Domestique | Marten Kooistra | Domestique |
We hope for more Boev overperformances and for some Dumoulin consistency. we're not getting our hopes up too much though. Expectation: Top 10
Watch Out For: Igor Boev
Rider | Role | Bert Van Lerberghe | Free Role | Geert Van der Sanden | Leader | Michel Kreder | Leadout | Tomas Paprstka | Free Role | Jasper Bovenhuis | Domestique | Jefferson Cepeda Hernandez | Domestique |
Van der Sanden haven't done anything at all this season, and so we don't have high hopes once again. Could this be a repeat of our Krieger moment from 2017? Looks unlikely at the moment. Expectation: Top 15
Watch Out For: Tomas Paprstka
Rider | Role | Nico Keinath | Leader | Igor Boev | Sprinter | Romain Bardet | Domestique | Tom Dumoulin | Time Trial | Joonas Henttala | Domestique | Kevin Inkelaar | Domestique | Jefferson Cepeda Hernandez | Domestique | Ide Schelling | Domestique |
Keinath leads us for probably the last time, and that too on home turf. With this race being in the PCT, there is no way we can get our hopes too high for this race. We are hoping we can be consistent and get Keinath into a good spot for Stage 3. Expectation: Top 15
Watch Out For: Nico Keinath
Rider | Role | Wilco Kelderman | Leader | Michel Kreder | Domestique | Tomas Paprstka | Domestique | Tom Dumoulin | Domestique | Kevin Inkelaar | Domestique | Michael Storer | Domestique | Cristian Scaroni | Domestique | Jefferson Cepeda Hernandez | Domestique |
Surprise! Surprise! Kelderman leads another PCT race, skipping Zuri and leaving it for his chief lieutenant. Can he go again against tougher opposition. We certainly hope so. Expectation: Top 5
Watch Out For: Wilco Kelderman
Rider | Role | Geert Van der Sanden | Domestique | Calvin Watson | Leader | Romain Bardet | Domestique | Jasper Bovenhuis | Domestique | Joonas Henttala | Domestique | Ide Schelling | Domestique | Marten Kooistra | Domestique |
Chief lieutenant Watson leads for the only time this season, and that too to close out the season. Let's see what he can do as a leader. A decent support squad is here, so we've tried to help Watson out as much as possible. Let's hope he delivers. Expectation: Top 15
Watch Out For: Romain Bardet

It's been a long season, but an enjoyable one! Not too long ago, we were sitting at this point of the season last year and wondering what we would go next. We were heading back to the CT and had to turn around our fortunes completely to get back to where we thought we belonged. We have very close to achieving that now. With just a month's racing to cover, this was the last push towards ourselves back the middle division of the MG.
The last month started with our last cobbles outing of the year. We didn't join the break but concentrated on staying safe in the pack. We missed the winning move but Paprstla kept himself in the top positions, finishing our best in 7th.Van Lerberghe and Bovenhuis finished 22nd and 23rd respectively.
1 | Jerome Baugnies | Los Pollos Hermanos | 5h39'27 | 7 | Tomas Paprstka | Philips | + 7'11 | 22 | Bert Van Lerberghe | Philips | + 9'10 | 23 | Jasper Bovenhuis | Philips | + 10'54 | 44 | Gorazd Per | Philips | + 29'54 | 69 | Marten Kooistra | Philips | + 1h06'11 |
Another race with all three of our cobbles riders scoring. We had hoped for a little more from this race, but it did not best suite our team. Can't have too many complaints though with our trio over the course of this season.
Kelderman's last outing in C1 had seen him win in Milano-Torino. We knew this race didn't exactly suit him, especially the finish. But we were still hopeful.
No breaks for us as it all about keeping Kelderman safe. Schelling did some of the early pace-making along with others. Storer then took over in the second half as Kelderman remained in the leading positions all through. The final hills were not very selective and the reduced bunch sprint at the end meant Kelderman could only get 15th.
1 | Pascal Ackermann | Team Popo4Ever p/b Nemiroff | 5h11'25 | 15 | Wilco Kelderman | Philips | s.t. | 50 | Philips | s.t. | 51 | Romain Bardet | Philips | s.t. | 67 | Michael Storer | Philips | s.t. | 113 | Jefferson Cepeda Hernandez | Philips | + 2'41 | 114 | Cristian Scaroni | Philips | s.t. | 115 | Jasper Bovenhuis | Philips | s.t. | 126 | Ide Schelling | Philips | + 3'21 |
We misjudged how the race might play out. The finish did not suit Kelderman and we probably shouldn't have come here at all. Nevertheless, still soe points gained.
Boev finished really strongly on Stage 1 but just ran out of road and had to settle for 2nd.
Boev was positioned well at the start of the sprint on Stage 2 but fell away afterwards.
Stage 3 didn't have anything of note for us.
We were hoping Dumoulin would end the year on a high with this being his last race targeting the GC. He has come close to a win many times but had not got one before this. He out in a fast time on Stage 3 being one of the early starters. The wind direction changed for the late starters and Dumoulin won by a big margin. Henttala was 13th and Watson was 23rd which moved them up in the GC.
The final stage went to the break. Dumoulin and the rest finished safely in the pack.
1 | Tom Dumoulin | Philips | 15h48'10 | 10 | Joonas Henttala | Philips | + 1'17 | 22 | Calvin Watson | Philips | + 1'44 | 87 | Marten Kooistra | Philips | + 4'51 | 130 | Igor Boev | Philips | + 8'21 | 132 | Ide Schelling | Philips | + 9'01 |
AN unexpected victory for Dumoulin but one which has been due all season! We had an excellent race with two more riders scoring GC points and finishing 2nd in the Teams classification!
Course de Solidarnosc Review Bovenhuis joined the break. He picked up second place in the only intermediate sprint of the day.
Van der Sanden didn't start well, not featuring at all in the sprint on Stage 1.
Our sprinter improved his form on Stage 2, finishing off a good sprint to take 3rd on the day.
Paprstka joined the break on Stage 3. He took 3rd and 2nd in the two intermediate sprints.
Van der Sanden sprinted extremely well once again to finish 2nd.
Van der Sanden had no sprinting legs on Stage 4 and finished outside the Top 10.
His exploits on the two previous stages ensured 6th in the GC. Time gains made by Bovenhuis and Paprstka in their breakaways meant that they finished 20th and 19th in the GC, respectively.
1 | Alexander Krieger | Tryg - Ritter Sport | 16h48'57 | 6 | Geert Van der Sanden | Philips | + 17 | 19 | Tomas Paprstka | Philips | + 47 | 20 | Jasper Bovenhuis | Philips | + 48 | 47 | Bert Van Lerberghe | Philips | s.t. | 51 | Michel Kreder | Philips | s.t. | 107 | Jefferson Cepeda Hernandez | Philips | + 2'31 |
We had almost zero expectations from this race, given the form Van der Sanden has shown previously this season. What we got was a very good haul of points. This was a very good way to end the season on a high for Van der Sanden.
Dumoulin was our best finisher on Stage 1 in 13th. Keinath lost just under 2 minutes to the best time.
Boev sprinted to 3rd on Stage 2!
Cepeda Hernandez and Bardet joined the break on Stage 3
Bardet won the first KOM sprint and finished 5th in the second to be tied at the top of that standing at that moment.
Four riders attacked from a long way out and were not caught. Keinath remained in the group of favourites, finishing 12th and moving himself up to 10th in the GC. Henttala was also up to 16th in the GC.
Keinath did enough to defend his GC position on Stage 4.
Dumoulin was once again our best result in 13th.
1 | Justo Tenorio | Desigual | 10h58'37 | 10 | Nico Keinath | Philips | + 2'38 | 17 | Joonas Henttala | Philips | + 3'59 | 21 | Tom Dumoulin | Philips | + 5'18 | 58 | Ide Schelling | Philips | + 11'25 | 84 | Jefferson Cepeda Hernandez | Philips | + 15'52 | 92 | Igor Boev | Philips | + 17'31 | 96 | Kevin Inkelaar | Philips | + 18'39 |
10th, 17th and 21st in the GC, with 5th in the KOM and 3rd in the Teams standings is an excellent return for us from a C1 race.
We protected Kelederman till the closing stages with Cepeda Hernandez working on the front as well. Kelderman remaining in the leading positions in the closing stages and was the first to accelerate for the win. He couldn't hold on but finished in 3rd.

1 | Oleksandr Prevar | Team Popo4Ever p/b Nemiroff | 5h10'23 | 3 | Wilco Kelderman | Philips | s.t. | 56 | Michael Storer | Philips | + 3'41 | 64 | Kevin Inkelaar | Philips | s.t. | 113 | Michel Kreder | Philips | + 8'43 | 114 | Tomas Paprstka | Philips | s.t. | 124 | Jefferson Cepeda Hernandez | Philips | + 9'46 | 127 | Tom Dumoulin | Philips | s.t. |
Another impressive ride from Kelderman among the PCT elite gives him a great finish to the season. Our decision to bring him to this race over Zuri in the CT pays off.
Watson could not stay with the attacks and accelerations when they happened and finished in 27th.
Anonymous race from us and we ended the season with a 0 pointer. Watson's only leadership role this season is unsuccessful.
October was an excellent month of racing for us. While there was a 0 pointer and a small disappointment of Lugano also thrown in, we did get more than expected results in all the other races. An excellent way to end the season and we look forward to the final rankings update from the MGUCI now.
Signing off with the season's coverage from our HQ. Do stay tuned for our stats and facts posts which will be up over the next few days.

Tom Dumoulin with a huge result in the final moments of the season. Congrats for that!
Well done on the HQ for the entire season too. I often dont fully follow races outside of my division and HQs are a great way to keep up to date with current results. Your review format works quite well for me

@knockout: Yes, DUmoulin had been getting closer and closer to the top spot and got the win in his final race as a GC contender
Thanks for the nice words on my HQ I try to keep the monthly posts going. Have cut down somewhat on the rest.

Congrats to a great final month! Your team almost managed to live up to the #1 billing, but I guess Kelderman performing not so great in "flat-ish" hilly races made the difference. Great planning to send him to Emelia instead of Zurich, though - guess that's a worthy strategy for Moscon as well
Boev definitely was a great draft pick for you, tons of free points. And even VdS finally had a really good race in Poland. Keinath should have a great points/wage ratio, too - however, I guess we might both be fighting for a PCT GC leader next transfer season

Watson couldn't do it, and you come up just short of the title, but still a great season considering that Kelderman underwhelmed at times again. Looking forward to racing with you in PCT again!

Awesome end to the season from everyone on the team
Great that you are coming back to PCT, although I'm not looking forward to facing Kelderman as he clearly showed his quality in Emelia
I also agree with knockout, the HQ is as good as it gets. Which is to be expected from last year's best HQ

@Fabianski: Yes, maybe Kelderman doing better in just one race would've got us the title. But truth be told, I didn't expect Keinath, Boev and definitely Parstka to be this good. So they probably balanced it out. Next season in PCT will have to be a major rebuild for us we have only leader so to say. Hope we don't go after the same riders too much
@bbl: Watson had the chance to be the ultimate hero, didn't he? It wasn't to be but it was a great fight all through the season for those Top 4 spots. Looking forward to riding the PCT together
@redordead: Kelderman has gone from great to being prime selling candidate back to untouchable a few times this season Hope the last couple of months is a sign of things to come
Thanks for the HQ comments

If we forget about Lugano (let's not speak of it again ) I think it's fair to say the team had some great races in C1/HC to finish the season! Not only Kelderman in Emelia, but also (probably/maybe) the last C1 top-10 of Keinath's career and extra points thanks to several guys there in Bayern. I wish you the best in the PCT, may we meet again

@Nemolito: Surprisingly, besides Lugano, Kelderman was a lot more consistent in HC/C1 than in CT hilly races. Hope it's a sign for the future Loved Keinath's result in Bayern and loved him in general over the season. Didn't expect him to be quite this good!
Think you should be coming up as well, given what we already know about disbands. Hope to meet you in PCT

I believe Kelderman needs a breath of fresh air. And it probably is best for Philips, as it's been shown even this year with guys like Eastman and big boy teams like mine, that you need widescale changes, and not relying on CT leaders

To stay in the PCT, you have to become active in the transfer market. Your best mountain rider and your best sprinter have both gotten worse, or are getting worse. It's going to be a tough job. But: maybe her talent can surprise Inkelaar. |

@quadsas: If I didn't sell Keldrman going down CT, do you really think I'll sell him now? We'll need those changes that to talk about anyway, with having only one real leader for the PCT.
@withoutnonsense: There is no other way really. You are right about Keinath, but he wouldn't have been competitive in the PCT even without the decline! Van der Sanden didn't really do well in the CT, so it is clear he's not leadership material. Inkelaar probably needs a loan-out to max, so there's very a small chance he rides with us next season.

CT PROMOTION Part Deux! The final rankings update has just been released and our promotion to the PCT is confirmed for the second time in our history, We finished the season in 3rd, playing a bit of catchup with the rest of the teams all through we had filled the last quarter of our season with the most RDs! It paid off and we can now look forward to planning for PCT. Let's take a look at how our season went.
I think we set up mostly reachable goals and managed to get 3 out of 5. Juarez was particularly disappointing but given how most of the season went, we were perhaps lucky to get out win goal in Yekateringburg.
Race | Category | Points | RDs | PpRD | Herald Sun Tour | C2HC | 172 | 5 | 34.40 | Hong Kong Challenge | C1 | 123 | 3 | 41.00 | Tour de Langkawi | C2HC | 123 | 7 | 17.57 | Post Danmark Rundt | C2HC | 119 | 5 | 23.80 | Tour du Faso | C2HC | 114 | 3 | 38.00 | GP Yekaterinburg | C2HC | 105 | 2 | 52.50 | Tour of Vancouver | C2HC | 96 | 7 | 13.71 | Tour de San Luis | C2 | 89 | 8 | 11.13 | Giro dell'Emelia | HC | 82 | 2 | 41.00 | Milano - Torino | C1 | 80 | 2 | 40.00 | Tour of Eritrea | C2HC | 75 | 6 | 12.50 | Vuelta al Tachira | C2 | 72 | 10 | 7.20 | Course de Solidarnosc | C2HC | 70 | 4 | 17.50 | Tour de Vineyards | C2 | 66 | 6 | 11.00 | GP Izola | C2 | 59 | 2 | 29.50 | Bayern Rundfahrt | C1 | 55 | 4 | 13.75 | Lincoln GP | C2HC | 50 | 2 | 25.00 | Gent - Wevelgem | C2HC | 49 | 2 | 24.50 | Benelux Challenge | C1 | 43 | 6 | 7.17 | Transfagarasan GP | C2HC | 42 | 2 | 21.00 | Tour of Chile | C2 | 41 | 3 | 13.67 | Clasico San Cristobal | C2 | 40 | 2 | 20.00 | Trofeo Laigueglia | C2HC | 33 | 2 | 16.50 | 1 Jour de Dunkerque | C2 | 33 | 2 | 16.50 | Euskal Bizikleta | C2HC | 32 | 4 | 8.00 | Lillestrom GP | C2 | 31 | 2 | 15.50 | GP Herning | C2 | 27 | 2 | 13.50 | Rio Vista Chinesa | C2 | 27 | 2 | 13.50 | Coppa Placci | C2 | 26 | 2 | 13.00 | Frankfurt Eschborn | C2 | 25 | 2 | 12.50 | Kuurne - Bruxelles - Kuurne | HC | 22 | 2 | 11.00 | USA Pro Cycling Challenge | C2 | 18 | 4 | 4.50 | GP Kigali | C2 | 17 | 2 | 8.50 | Clasique Pico Basile | C2 | 13 | 2 | 6.50 | Sakartvelo Trophy | C2 | 13 | 2 | 6.50 | Colombo Classic | C2 | 10 | 2 | 5.00 | GP Lugano | C1 | 8 | 2 | 4.00 | Lisbon Classic | C1 | 4 | 2 | 2.00 | Malopolski Wyscig | C1 | 4 | 2 | 2.00 | Roma Maxima | C1 | 3 | 2 | 1.50 | Ronde van Het Ijsselmeer | C1 | 3 | 2 | 1.50 | Great Ocean Road Classic | C2HC | 1 | 2 | 0.50 | Viana do Castelo | C1 | 0 | 2 | 0.00 | Betonexpressz GP | C2HC | 0 | 2 | 0.00 | Torshavn GP | C1 | 0 | 2 | 0.00 | Vilnius GP | C2HC | 0 | 3 | 0.00 | Philadelphia International Championship | C2HC | 0 | 2 | 0.00 | Zuri Metzgete | C2HC | 0 | 2 | 0.00 |

We were very good in C2HC, despite the four zero scores, and handled our bread and butter races with aplomb. The HC category turned out to be a jackpot with especially the decision to go to Emelia paying off brilliantly. We did well in the hills in C1 and decently in the other races of that category. C2, as expected, gave us less points, but we were mostly consistent throughout.
Month-Wise Points Progression | January | February | March | April | May | | Points | 178 | 242 | 100 | 139 | 176 | | RDs | 14 | 13 | 10 | 10 | 9 | | PpRD | 12.71 | 18.62 | 10.00 | 13.90 | 19.56 | | Rank | 2 | | 2 | | 5 | | | | June | July | August | September | October | Total | Points | 268 | 284 | 139 | 185 | 404 | 2115 | RDs | 16 | 29 | 16 | 12 | 21 | 150 | PpRD | 16.75 | 9.79 | 8.69 | 15.42 | 19.24 | 14.10 | Rank | 6 | | | 4 | | 3 |
We started off really well and then played catchup a bit which saw us fall to 6th in the table as the lowest. We picked up the pace again from September and got that podium spot in the end, just 23 points off the top spot.
That's it for this part of the season review. We will be back soon with Part 2 where we'll look at how our riders performed, provide some season statistics and present our awards for the season...

I for one am extremely surprised that we ended up finishing ahead of you. I figured you were ticketed for the title going into the season, though Carrefour was always going to make that a difficult task.
Kelderman really should have obliterated the competition at that salary, but guys like Keinath did what they had to make up for him underperforming at times. Nico was a really terrific transfer. Maybe only a short term solution at his age, but when you're trying to get back to PCT, that's pretty much fine. Some rebuilding would always be needed.
Very intrigued as to how you will supplement Kelderman going forward to make sure you obtain some stability in PCT.

@bbl: Well it only really needed one more race of Kelderman performing to expectations for us to win the title, so fine margins I guess! But congrats for getting 2nd though; think you have a very good set up for next season going into PCT.
As you said, Keinath was a one season leadership pick for sure and even if he stays next season, he will only a part of a mountain and TTT setups at best. Kelderman is the only real PCT quality rider we have, so I guess we need to get busy this transfers.
