If it's okay with everyone, I'd like to introduce breakaway points into the game from this season itself, and they will be as following:

1) 1 Point every time one of your riders get into the break
2) 1 additional Point if the break you got into survived, irrespective of whether you did or not.

The first will count till the riders are of age 23, while the second will count till the riders are of age 21.

If there's no opposition, and since not a lot of the season has passed, I'd add these points for your neo-pros in the next rankings update.

Spoiler
Credits to Ripley for the idea, and I'm in support of it.

Seems like a good idea, will be hard to collect any pts otherwise I guess.

Agree with Viking. I guess it's retroactive to the start of the season?

Have to say, I am against this. Getting into breakaway is kind of random and I am not in support of it.
Thank you Andy for everything!

No lanterne rouge points? Sad
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Ripley
It's true, of course, such "neo-pro points" would be rather random, but since it will be so difficult to score any real points in the near future it would give us something to work with.

To be honest, my idea was a 1/10th scale for such points, I think a breakaway appearance shouldn't be worth the same as finishing 10th on the stage or finishing 10th in the KoM classification.

My idea also included a point (or rather, 0.1 points) for the best placed neo-pro per stage/race. Again, that would be rather random, finishing 133rd in the pack isn't really better than finishing 145th. Could make it that those who lose the least time and finish in a group together all get 0.1 points. Lantern rouge could also be worth the same. Even a crash could be worth 0.1 points. Smile

And while we're at it, I'll also open up the discussion about training and points gained from that. I hope everybody was as realistic as me and picked 3 blocks of training worth 30 points, otherwise I feel like I cheated. Maybe slash that down to 1/10th, 3 points from my 3 blocks of training still seems like a bargain.

Sorry it took so long for me to reply, was waiting to make sure no other replies come in (also it's been a busy week)

Right so, like Ripley said, his idea was to have a rider awarded 0.1 points for a breakaway appearance but I changed that to a point. Now I see there was a mixed response to the 1 point per breakaway scale, so I'm open to toning it down, to 0.1 points (or 0.25 points) if people are fine with that.

The other idea I'd like to open up as a possibility for this season itself is that of having the best placed neo-pro rider awarded at the end of each stage and race. The point scale again could be 0.1/0.25.

Opening this up for discussion.

I'd like to keep the training related changes for next season, if they get implemented, but feel free to discuss the same from now itself. I'm not very inclined to have Lanterne Rouge points included, but I'll not dismiss it completely. So that can be discussed as well.

@Aquarius: Yes, it would be retroactive to the start of the season.

Sorry about the unannounced break but I've been away. March points update is now up. Hopefully, we'll be back racing again this weekend Smile

It's been slow going in terms of the racing in RTG for some time now. I plan to speed things up a bit with faster reporting of the races going ahead. Emphasis will be given to parts of the races where the custom riders achieve something significant. Otherwise, there will be bare minimum reporting for the rest of the action, with mainly the results highlighted.

Also, the NCs and WCs will not be raced this season and the real NCs and WCs will be used for the 2018 season in RTG. This is again aimed at speeding up proceedings.

I've also been contemplating some changes for next season, which include shortening the calendar a little, and slowly removing some teams, starting with one next season. Both of these initiatives are to encourage custom riders riding with and against each other more regularly, both as teammates and as rivals.

I will post the final rule changes at a later date. Any ideas you may have for improving the game, and everyone's interaction, are welcome.

Moving the discussion to this thread...

There's Xisto. Can't really justify adding a mountain classic with there already being so many mountains in the stage races but will definitely re-look at the calendar for next season.

For now it doesn't matter much anyway, our riders are still so young and weak. I'm open for all ideas about calendar changes, we don't really need 3 GTs, for example. The idea you already mentioned, reducing the number of races to have us compete against each other more often, sounds good, less work for you, too.

The initial idea was to slowly remove the non-WT races (and teams) year on year till we are only left with the WT calendar (and teams). The idea for reducing GTs seems fair but not sure I want to take to take any off and bring them back in a arbitrary year. No reason why a 20 year old (next season) could not want to go for a breakaway win or a high U25 finish in one of those races to get a rankings boost.

The only problem with the WT calendar is that there aren't many chances for the sprinters in stage races.

Could we do a RTG World Champs for fun to see our riders be at the front? Pfft

Ripley wrote:
Maybe not the WC race, but an additional fun race. Or a U21 RR, though probably our riders aren't good enough for that, either.

This could be done for sure. There are 17 non-custom riders in the DB aged 21 or under that are contracted! So with our 20 that would make it a 37 rider race. Increasing the age limit to 22 sees a 48+20 rider race. Including 23 year-olds means have 131 riders in total. However, if it's a U23 event, our riders won't stand a chance with a lot of better riders now eligible. U22 seems like the best choice in terms of field size and competition.

Ripley
I support your plans. Though replacing a WT-race or two with a non-WT-race to better balance it out for all rider types seems only fair, too.

The U22 race would be fun, but I suggest it wouldn't score any points for our riders.

I agree with Ripley that an U22 race would be fun but not to award any points. And maybe find a shorter course than the real worlds to be gentle on our neo-pros Pfft

It won't give points for sure. Will share some profiles soon.

U22 World Championships - Profiles

Here are some of the stage profiles that could be used for the U22 RTG World Championships. Will eventually open it up for a vote in a couple of days.

The primary aim is to stay away from pure climbing, because in that case, Gaudu and Bernal would have no competition. Another input received to have shorter stage lengths than other races on the calendar, so that could be a consideration (or not!).

Option 1

i.imgur.com/bqtHOok.jpg

Nominated by Ripley. A mix of medium hills and easy cobbles.
Spoiler
Can only be run if this PCM15 stage runs of PCM16. Need to test this.

Option 2

i.imgur.com/YKHquvS.png

A mix of hard cobbles and easy hills on a long course in Poland.

Option 3

i.imgur.com/ohCsqfI.png

Opens up the possibility of either a sprinter, puncher or cobbles specialist winning. Medium length stage.

Option 4

i.imgur.com/HGaRu0Y.png

Relatively mild first half with an undulating finish, littered with cobbles.

Option 5

i.imgur.com/fG97WjN.png

Nearly flat opening, with the final third having four cobbled hills and an uphill finish.

Option 6

i.imgur.com/OdDkn8I.png

Emphasizing on the 'short' suggestion. Allows for early attackers to hang on over the short distance and for a very attacking race in general.

Option 7

pcmdaily.com/stagedb/images/2016_Trofeo_Alcide_Degasperi_1.jpg

Flat rated stage with a difficult ending with multiple small inclines.

Option 8

i.imgur.com/UZ3SFml.png

A bumpy cobbled profile with is sure the test the mettle of all concerned.

As mentioned earlier, any further suggestions would also be considered.

Charlotte could be fun. Otherwise Portugal is nice, or Stavanger. They are all nice but I'd recommend against that Krakow course however lovely it looks Pfft 260km on our neo-pro legs would not be good Pfft

I'd prefer something selective, with a low chance of a mass sprint, maybe with a downhill finish. After a look through the PCM 16 stage database, how about the Trofeo Alcide Degasperi? Supposedly flat, though it doesn't look that way, but shouldn't disqualify anybody:

Jandal's right, Krakow will not be in contention going ahead. Should've checked the length earlier. Have put up Ripley's latest suggestion as an option now too.

FreitasPCM
Either Stavanger and the one finishing in Trento are both good options. Smile

Wanted to have a unique race for this event. Tour of Flanders probably does have a U23 /Junior edition I'm guessing?
