Gianni Meersman stops his career as a result of heart problems
Wow, second semi big name forced to retire this year after Vansummeren. What a horrible way to end a career, especially since he seemed to be back on the right track after the Vuelta.
Seems to be quite a few belgians with heart problems recently, could be something they took earlier in their careers coming back to bite them? Or am I just trolling?

I just think we started to check things more seriously after we had a few footballers dropping dead on the field, and then of course Daan Myngheer earlier this year didn't help.
I think it all started with Niels Albert a few years ago, if a World Champion decides to retire in his prime because he has heart problems, "lesser" riders will not take the risk either.
Clenbuterol is pretty bad for heart, there are few studies on animals showing it actally kills heart muscle. Many bodybuilders don't even bother with clen due to the heart studies.
However, cyclists don't use it for long, usually 2 weeks cycle to get lean. So it's very unlikely it's caused by any drugs. Plus all cyclists dope the same shit, 2 Belgians is not a good sample at all.
And lastly, many people have some heart issues, it's just sportsmen due to their regular checks can actually find out about them so there's this illusion sportsmen have more issues with their hearts.
